Triumph NTB-800: the machine measures the wheel, so the operator cannot mis-measure it

Almost every wheel that comes back with a vibration after being balanced was balanced correctly — against the wrong numbers. Rim diameter typed in as 17 when the wheel is 18, an offset guessed with a tape measure, a distance keyed in from memory on a busy afternoon: the spinner did its job perfectly on data that was wrong before it started. The NTB-800's defining feature is that it removes two thirds of that risk. It measures wheel diameter and offset itself, automatically, and asks the operator for one figure only — the wheel width.

That is a genuinely different machine from a balancer where three dimensions are hand-entered, and it is why the NTB-800 belongs in a shop with volume and turnover of staff. It is faster, but more importantly it is repeatable: a technician on their second week produces the same numbers as the one who has been there ten years, because the machine is not asking either of them to estimate.

Around that sits a conventional, robust electronic balancer: wheels from 10-28", tires to 44", static and dynamic modes, an LED display that walks the operator through each step, and a spin cycle measured in seconds rather than minutes.

Will It Fit?

Balancers are less demanding than lifts, but they still need a considered spot. Check these against your own floor plan; the space and the supply are the buyer's responsibility.

  • Assembled size. 28" x 48" x 62". The height matters because the hood needs to swing up and clear, so a shelf or a low soffit above the machine is a problem you find out about on day one.
  • Working space. The footprint is not the working area. An operator needs to swing a wheel onto the shaft from the side and reach the weight positions on the rim, so leave real clearance on the shaft side rather than parking it in a corner.
  • Power. 110 Volt, driven by a 1/4 HP motor. A standard shop outlet, not a dedicated service.
  • Delivery route. It crates at 30" x 39" x 51" and 300 lbs. Confirm the doorway and the path from the truck before the truck exists.
  • Shaft. 36 mm. Worth confirming against any cones, adapters or flange plates you already own before you assume they carry over.

The capacity numbers, and which of them will actually stop you

Three separate limits define what this balancer accepts, and shops usually hit them in an order they do not expect.

Rim diameter, 10-28". Rarely the binding constraint. It reaches well past the large-diameter alloys that show up on modern trucks and SUVs.

Rim width, 1 1/2-20". Also generous — wide rear wheels and reversed-offset truck wheels sit comfortably inside it.

Overall tire diameter, 44", and tire weight, 150 lbs. These are the two that bite. A lifted truck on 35s or 37s carries an overall diameter that climbs fast, and a heavy off-road tire on a wide alloy adds up quicker than people expect. If a meaningful share of your work is oversized light-truck rubber, measure a representative assembly and weigh it, rather than assuming the wheel size alone answers the question.

Why automatic data entry pays for itself in a busy bay

Enter data by hand and a balance job has three chances to go wrong before the wheel spins. Automatic measurement of diameter and offset removes two of them. What is left — the width — is the easiest of the three to read correctly off the rim, and it is the one the machine cannot see for itself.

The practical consequences are worth spelling out. Comebacks fall, because the most common cause of a comeback on a balanced wheel is bad input rather than a bad machine. Training time falls, because there is less to teach and less to get wrong. And throughput rises for a reason that has nothing to do with spin speed: the operator is not stopping to measure, look up or double-check, so the cycle is genuinely start-to-finish rather than start-to-hesitate-to-finish.

Static and dynamic modes cover the two jobs a balancer is asked to do — a single correction plane for narrow wheels and steel rims, two planes for anything modern and wide — and the LED display prompts each step rather than assuming the operator remembers the sequence.

Perfect For

  • Tire shops and busy independents. Volume plus rotating staff is exactly the situation automatic entry was designed for.
  • General repair shops adding tire work. A balancer that does not need a specialist to run it well.
  • Fleet and municipal maintenance. The 44" tire and 150 lbs limits cover the light-truck end of most fleets.
  • Performance and wheel retailers. Large-diameter alloys balanced without hand-measuring an expensive rim.

What's in the Box

The NTB-800 arrives as a complete electronic balancer with its shaft, hood and LED console. Motorcycle work needs the separate Triumph NTB-AS adapter set, which is a distinct item and not part of this machine. If a particular cone set, flange or accessory matters to your work, confirm it with us before ordering rather than after the crate is open — we would rather have that conversation early.

Certification, stated plainly

No third-party safety listing is claimed for this balancer in the data we hold, so we are not going to put a badge on the page suggesting otherwise. If your insurer or your local code requires shop equipment carrying a listing from a named independent testing body, ask us for the machine's documentation and confirm the requirement before purchase. For a wheel balancer this is an uncommon requirement, but uncommon is not the same as never, and it is a five-minute question now versus an argument later.

Shipping and delivery

Freight only, lower 48, crated on a pallet. The freight charge is calculated live at checkout for the address you enter, which is why no figure appears on this page — a shipping price printed into copy is out of date the week after it is written.

Unloading is on the receiving end. A crated balancer is not a two-person carry, so plan for a forklift or a dock, or choose terminal pickup and bring a truck and a helper. Delivery to a residential address is available and adds a residential fee at checkout. Pickup from our Triumph warehouses is also an option.

Do not sign for damage. Check the crate while the driver waits: skewed banding, a punctured side, a corner taking the weight. Write what you see on the bill of lading, photograph it, and tell us that day. Once a clean receipt is signed, the freight is on record as having arrived undamaged and the claim becomes far harder to win.

Warranty

Manufacturer's warranty applies; the current terms live on our warranty claims page. The one thing to avoid: do not take a suspect component apart before the claim is opened. Photograph the fault where it sits, leave it assembled, and call us. Disassembly usually ends any chance of assessing what failed, and with it the claim.
