Description
-BelAire 3G3HHL: a Honda GX390 with key start, built to bolt to a truck
Gas compressors live or die on one thing: whether they start. The 3G3HHL runs a Honda GX390 with a 12-Volt key start and a recoil pull as backup, so it starts from the cab if you wire it into the ignition and starts from the deck if the battery is flat. That redundancy is the reason this unit belongs on a service truck rather than a compressor with one starting method and a long walk back to the shop.
The rest is built around the same idea. The control panel and the easy-read pressure gauge are positioned for truck mounting, so you can see the pressure from where you actually stand. The tank drain is an EZ Pull valve, because condensate that needs a wrench does not get drained. And an auto idle function drops the engine back when you are not pulling air, which saves fuel and noise between jobs.
What it produces
The two-stage pump delivers 25.3 CFM at 100 PSI, with a maximum pressure of 175 PSI. That is a serious amount of air for a mobile unit — enough to run impact tools on truck and trailer work, chippers, and air-driven equipment on site without waiting for the tank to catch up. The 13 HP engine is what makes that possible in a package you can lift onto a bed with two people and a plan.
The pump has an aluminium cylinder with a cast-iron sleeve, and it is belt driven and splash lubricated. An oil sight glass makes the level check quick, which matters more on a mobile machine that gets checked in a yard than on one bolted to a shop floor. Note that no aftercooler is fitted on this model — that is normal for a portable gas unit, but it means the air leaving the tank is warmer and wetter than a shop compressor's, so use a moisture trap at the tool for anything sensitive.
Will it fit on your truck?
Measure the deck before you order. The unit is 45 in. long, 19 in. wide and 45 in. tall, and it weighs 378 lb. The tank is horizontal, which is what keeps the centre of gravity low — the right shape for something that will spend its life being driven around.
Mounting is the customer's responsibility and it deserves real thought: the frame has to be through-bolted to structure that can carry the load under braking, not screwed to a wooden deck. Leave clearance around the engine for cooling air and for the recoil handle. Route the exhaust so it does not point at anything you value, and think about where the 12-volt feed will run before you find out.
One safety point that is not negotiable: this is a petrol engine, so it runs outdoors or in genuinely open air, never in an enclosed space, a closed box or a garage with the door down. Follow the Honda engine manual for fuel, oil and service intervals.
The tank and the plumbing
Air is stored in a 30 gallon horizontal ASME tank with a safety valve and a 3/4 inch outlet. Thirty gallons is a deliberate choice on a mobile machine: it is enough reserve to smooth out demand while an engine-driven pump keeps up, without adding the weight and bulk of a shop-sized vessel to a vehicle that has to carry tools as well.
The fully enclosed belt guard protects both the belt and whoever is working next to it, which on a truck deck is usually someone reaching past it for something else.
Perfect for
- Service trucks and mobile mechanics — the reason this configuration exists.
- Fleet and roadside repair, where the compressor has to work wherever the vehicle stops.
- Construction and utility crews running air tools away from any power supply.
- Farms, ranches and remote sites where mains electricity is not part of the plan.
What is included
The compressor arrives assembled: Honda GX390 engine with 12-volt key start and recoil, two-stage cast-iron-sleeved pump, 30 gallon horizontal ASME tank with safety valve, EZ Pull tank drain, truck-mount control panel with pressure gauge, air filter, oil sight glass and a fully enclosed belt guard. Mounting hardware for your specific vehicle, hose and any moisture trap are not included.

Certification, stated plainly
The tank is ASME rated and carries a safety valve. That is a pressure-vessel standard covering the vessel itself; it is not a statement about the engine, the starting circuit or the machine as an assembly. This product's data does not claim any third-party North American safety listing beyond the tank rating, and we would rather tell you that than let one certification imply several. If your employer, your insurer or a site's rules require particular listings or engine emissions documentation on equipment brought on site, ask us what paperwork ships with the unit and get the answer in writing before you order.
Shipping and delivery
Shipped by freight to the lower 48 states on a pallet. At 378 lb it is lighter than a shop compressor but still well past a two-person carry — plan for a forklift, a dock, or a pallet jack on flat ground, and remember it has to end up on a vehicle afterwards. Terminal pickup is a sensible option here, since the truck it is going on can usually collect it. Residential delivery addresses carry a residential fee, quoted with your shipping at checkout.
Inspect the machine before signing the delivery receipt. Look over the engine, the control panel, the gauge, the belt guard and the tank, and note any damage on the paperwork while the driver is still there. Signing clear first and reporting damage later is how good freight claims get lost.
Warranty
The unit is listed with a 2 Year full factory warranty and nothing extra to buy. Note that the Honda engine carries its own manufacturer's cover, handled through Honda's own network, and the warranty documents shipped with the machine are the governing texts for both — read them when it arrives. Do not disassemble the pump, the engine or the starting circuit before a claim has been opened; a component stripped before inspection is the most common reason a valid warranty claim is refused.
