Description
-Topdon BT300P 12V Battery Tester with Built-In Printer
The question a battery tester is really being asked is rarely "is the battery bad". It is "is it the battery, or is it the alternator". The BT300P answers both, because it tests the battery's actual cold cranking amps and state of health and tests the cranking system and the charging system — and then prints the answer.
That printer is the difference between a diagnosis and a document. A tester that shows a result on screen produces a technician's opinion. A tester that prints produces something you can staple to a work order, hand across a counter, put in a fleet file or attach to a manufacturer's claim — and it prints within seconds of the test finishing.
What it tests, and on what
It is a 12V lead-acid vehicle battery tester, compatible with four battery types: flooded, AGM, GEL and EFB. It is accredited for ten battery standards — CCA, CA, BCI, MCA, DIN, IEC, EN, SAE, JIS and GB — which matters more than it sounds. A battery sold in one market carries its rating in one system; the tester has to speak the same language as the label on the case, or the comparison it makes is meaningless.
The CCA range is 100 to 2000, which covers small passenger batteries through to commercial and marine cranking batteries.
Four results come out of it: the battery's real cold cranking amps against its rated figure, state of health, a cranking system test, and a charging system test. That last pair is the reason to buy this rather than a voltmeter. A battery that keeps going flat is not always a bad battery, and replacing it when the alternator is the fault is a repeat visit and a refund conversation.
The printer, and why paper still wins
Three audiences make a printed result worth having, and none of them accepts a verbal one.
The customer. A dated slip with a measured number on it turns a battery recommendation from an upsell into a finding. It ends the argument before it starts.
The warranty department. Battery claims are refused for lack of evidence at least as often as for lack of merit. A test result captured at the time is what closes that gap.
Your own records. If you test a fleet or a regular customer's vehicles on a schedule, the slips are the trail that shows a battery declining across visits rather than dying without notice.
Three rolls of standard printing paper are supplied with the tool, so the printer works out of the box rather than after a second order.
Working with it
The interface is step-by-step and deliberately aimed at someone who has never tested a battery before — you are led through the type, the standard and the rating rather than expected to know the sequence. The screen is a 2.4" colour display, which on a tool this size is the difference between reading a result and squinting at one.
The cable reach is 31.5 inches. That is the specification to check against your own vehicles: it is enough to work from the battery to a comfortable standing position over most engine bays, and it is not enough to reach a battery in a boot or under a rear seat while standing at the front of the car. Plan where you will stand.
Working voltage is 9V to 30V, and there is reverse polarity protection on the connection — the mistake that is easiest to make in a hurry.
Portable in the sense that matters
The unit weighs a little more than 1 lb — 16.76 oz on the specification — and measures 8.19 by 3.94 by 1.49 inches. A wear-resistant storage bag is included.
Weight is not a vanity specification on a tester. A tool that is heavy enough to want a bench gets used at the bench, which means the vehicle comes to the tool. A tool at this weight goes in a bag, into the van, to the customer's driveway, and to the neighbour's car at eleven at night — which is where most battery testing actually happens.
Multi-language support is built in.
Perfect For
- Independent workshops that want to hand the customer a printed result as a matter of course.
- Mobile and roadside technicians, where the paperwork has to be finished at the vehicle.
- Parts counters and battery retailers testing on the spot before a sale or a warranty exchange.
- Fleet and municipal operators keeping a documented battery-health history per vehicle.
- Serious home mechanics running several vehicles who would rather measure than guess.
What's in the Box
The tester, its clamp leads, a light and wear-resistant storage bag, and three rolls of standard printing paper. That is what the current description states and this page does not add to it — if you need to know whether anything else travels in the carton, ask and we will confirm the current packing list.

Certification and compliance
Be careful to read the accreditation claim for what it is. The ten standards listed above are battery rating systems the tester can measure against — they describe the batteries, not an approval of the tool. No third-party safety listing for the instrument itself is named in the data we hold, and this page will not imply one. If a fleet or laboratory policy requires named documentation for test equipment, tell us which document it asks for and we will obtain the current manufacturer paperwork before you order.
Shipping and delivery
A parcel-sized item, shipping to addresses in the lower 48 states or available for warehouse collection. Cost is worked out for your address at checkout rather than printed here, because carrier pricing moves. Check the leads and the printer door on arrival and note any damage on the delivery paperwork at the time — a crushed clamp is obvious on the day and arguable a fortnight later.
Warranty
Terms and the claim process are published on our warranty claims page. If the tester or its printer fails, contact us before opening the housing, splicing a lead or dismantling the paper mechanism. A tool that has been taken apart cannot be assessed, and on a printing instrument a home repair and a manufacturing fault look identical once the case is off.
