The failure that matters is a low-speed assistance system making decisions from a picture that no longer matches reality — and a vehicle handed back in that state after a repair you performed.

It is a reference, not an instrument. The calibration is run by a TOPDON diagnostic tool; the target simply gives the vehicle a pattern of known geometry to measure itself against.
