Almost every rotary screw compressor sold into shop work assumes you have three-phase service. This one does not. The SRP 3008 Compact runs a 7.5 HP motor on 230V single-phase power, which is the supply an independent shop, a fabrication garage or a serious home workshop is far more likely to already have at the wall. That single fact is why this model exists, and it is the reason to look at it before you price out a service upgrade with your utility.

The second reason is size. The whole machine, air end and receiver together, measures 35" across, 18" deep and 42" high. That is a footprint you can put in a corner rather than a room. It delivers 25 CFM at 125 PSI on a continuous 100% duty cycle from a 60-gallon horizontal receiver, and it weighs 373 lbs.

Single-phase power, and what that actually saves you

Bringing three-phase service into a building that does not have it is rarely a small job. Depending on what is on the pole and how far the run is, it can involve the utility, a transformer, a new service entrance and a permit, and it is frequently the largest line item in a compressed-air project — larger than the compressor. A rotary phase converter is the usual workaround, and it adds equipment, losses and another thing that can fail.

Ordering the single-phase version removes that entire branch of the decision. You still need a properly sized 230V branch circuit and disconnect installed by a licensed electrician, but you are working with a service you already have rather than one you have to buy.

Compact 2-in-1: one assembly, not two

The SRP 3008 Compact is built as an open 2-in-1 unit, meaning the rotary air end sits directly on the 60-gallon horizontal air receiver. Nothing has to be plumbed between them on site, there is no second base to level, and the machine arrives as one thing to place rather than a project to assemble. Because it is an open design rather than an enclosed cabinet, service access is direct: the belt, the air end and the electrical panel are all in front of you.

The trade-off is worth stating plainly, because it is the honest difference between this model and the enclosed units in the range. An open frame is not sound attenuated. If the compressor will sit inside a space where people work continuously and noise is a concern, an enclosed model is the better choice. If it is going in a back corner, a mechanical room or a bay you are not standing in all day, the open frame gives you the same air for less money and easier maintenance.

Continuous duty from a screw air end

The rating that separates this machine from a piston compressor of similar horsepower is the continuous 100% duty cycle. A reciprocating pump is designed around rest periods; run it flat out and it heats, passes oil downstream and wears out early. The rotary air end here is oil-injected and belt-driven, and the injected oil seals the rotor clearances, absorbs the heat of compression and lubricates the bearings simultaneously. That is what allows 25 CFM at 125 PSI to be a figure the machine will hold for a full shift instead of a peak it touches between recovery periods.

In practice the difference shows up on the jobs that never stop asking: a DA sander on a panel, a cut-off wheel, a small blast cabinet, or two people on air tools at the same time. Those are exactly the loads where a piston unit rated at a similar output starts losing pressure by mid-morning.

Controls and motor protection

Operation is managed by a 24V microprocessor controller. Its operating parameters are adjustable, it displays a constant reading rather than leaving you to interpret a gauge, and when a fault occurs it identifies it, which shortens troubleshooting from an afternoon to a few minutes. The motor is a 7.5 HP TEFC IP55 unit — totally enclosed and fan cooled, with an ingress rating that keeps shop dust out of the windings — and it starts through an automatic starter with phase and sequence failure detection, so a supply problem stops the machine rather than damaging it.

Will it fit?

Allow for the 35" by 18" footprint plus clearance to open the panel and to get a hand to the belt and the air end. The unit stands 42" tall, so it fits comfortably under a shelf or a mezzanine that would not clear a vertical tank. At 373 lbs it is heavy enough to need a pallet jack or a couple of strong people with a proper plan, and light enough that it does not demand special rigging.

On the electrical side, this model requires 230V single-phase supply. Confirming the available service, and having the branch circuit, disconnect and grounding installed to code by a licensed electrician, is the buyer's responsibility. Do not run a compressor of this size on an extension cord or an undersized circuit.

Ratings, stated plainly

The 60-gallon horizontal air receiver is an ASME-rated pressure vessel. That is the standard most inspectors and insurers look for on a shop air tank, and it is the claim the manufacturer makes for this unit. It covers the tank only. It is not a North American third-party electrical safety listing for the complete machine, and we are not going to present it as one. If a plant standard, a landlord or an insurer requires a nationally recognized testing laboratory mark on the whole assembly, check that requirement before ordering — a freight shipment is an expensive place to discover a paperwork problem.

Shipping and delivery

Freight only, to the lower 48 states. The carrier delivers to the curb and the receiver unloads: a forklift, a dock, or collection from the carrier's terminal all work, and at this weight a couple of people and a tailgate do not. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, which is quoted live at checkout. Schulz pickup is available in Acworth, GA if you would rather collect.

Check the crate at the truck. Look for punctures, crushed corners, oil stains and banding that has moved, and note anything you find on the bill of lading before you sign. Once a clean bill of lading is signed, the carrier's position is that the machine arrived undamaged, and reversing that later is difficult. Photographs at the truck take a minute and are worth having.

Warranty and support

This unit carries a 12-month warranty, recorded in the specification sheet as 1 year for both consumer and commercial use. If something fails, open the claim before you open the machine.
