Schulz 7580VV30X-1 V-Series 7.5 HP 80-Gallon Two-Stage Air Compressor (230V 1-Phase)

This is the vertical-tank build of the single-phase 7.5 HP V-Series, and the honest headline is its shape. It stands 81" tall on a floor area of 48" by 42". Both of those numbers deserve a moment before you order, because a vertical compressor is usually bought on an assumption that the published dimensions do not always support.

The assumption is that vertical means small. On this machine the tank is vertical but the pump, motor and belt guard hang off its side, so the plan area is wider than the tank alone - 42" across. If floor space is genuinely your binding constraint, measure both builds before deciding rather than trusting the silhouette. Where vertical genuinely wins is against a wall: it gives you 80 gallons of storage in a rectangle you can back into a corner, with everything you service on one side.

The ceiling is the real question

81" is just under seven feet. That clears most shop ceilings comfortably, but it does not automatically clear the things below them: a garage-door track and its springs, a low soffit, ductwork, a lighting run, or the underside of a mezzanine. It is also taller than a standard interior door opening, which means the machine cannot be walked in upright through an ordinary doorway - it comes in through a roller door, or it comes in tilted on a pallet with a route planned in advance.

Do that measuring before the truck arrives, not after. It is the buyer's responsibility to confirm the height at the installed position and the clearance along the route in, and it is the single most common reason a compressor of this shape ends up sitting where nobody wanted it.

Single-phase power, two-stage pump

The reason to want this machine at all is that it puts a genuine two-stage, solid cast-iron pump behind a plain 230V 1-Phase supply. Two-stage compression - squeeze, cool, squeeze again - is what makes a sustained 175 PSI reasonable rather than punishing, and the cast-iron V-cylinder block with deep fins between the cylinders is what carries the heat away. Swedish steel valves, oversized main bearings, CNC-machined components and notched belts under an enclosed guard complete a pump built to turn slowly for years.

Single phase does have a cost, and it is electrical. Current draw and starting surge are higher than an equivalent three-phase motor's, so the machine wants a properly sized dedicated circuit and a cable run that does not sag the voltage on start-up. Schulz refers the amp draw and the breaker size to a certified electrician instead of publishing a figure, and we repeat that unchanged - the right number depends on your service and your run.

Air treatment

An after-cooler is fitted, so the air is cooled on its way to the receiver and much of its moisture condenses where the tank drain can deal with it. On a vertical tank that drain sits at the bottom of the column, which is convenient in one way - water goes where you want it - and awkward in another, because it is at floor level. Plan to reach it easily, and drain it on a schedule; there is no electronic drain valve and no air dryer on this model. The outlet connection is 1/2".

Oil is splash-fed with a sight glass and no low-oil shutdown, so the level is a human responsibility, checked by eye.

Certification, stated plainly

The air receiver and safety valve are stamped to the ASME pressure-vessel code - the certification this product actually claims, and worth having. What it is not is equally worth saying: it covers the vessel and its relief device, not the completed electrical assembly, and it is not a third-party safety listing of the machine as a whole. Nothing about it speaks to your local electrical inspection. Where an insurer, a landlord or a client contract names a specific listing for powered shop equipment, read the clause and check it against this unit before you commit to the purchase.

Shipping and delivery

This ships by freight to the lower 48 states, quoted live at checkout for the address you give us. It weighs 728 lbs and travels upright on a pallet, so unloading needs a forklift or a dock - or take terminal pickup and collect it with your own equipment. Warranty

Cover is 1 year on the unit and 2 years on the pump, in consumer or commercial service. Register a fault before you take anything apart - an opened pump is normally outside the terms and, just as importantly, cannot be assessed. Copy down the serial number when it arrives, keep it with your invoice, and keep a note of oil changes; a maintenance record is the difference between a warranty claim and an argument.
