-Description
-Schulz 360HV15-1 Oil-Free Two-Stage Air Compressor
Almost every oil-free compressor on the market is a single-stage machine with a light alloy pump, and it buys clean air by giving up pump life. The 360HV15-1 does not make that trade. Its pump is oil-free and two-stage and solid cast iron, driven by a belt rather than bolted straight to the motor, and it turns at a deliberately slow 620 RPM. That is an unusual specification, and it is the reason this model gets specified for clinics, dental and medical rooms, laboratories and critical industrial processes as readily as for a workshop: the air leaving the tank has never been in contact with pump oil, so there is nothing to strip back out downstream.
The working numbers are 3 HP on a 60-gallon horizontal tank, 15 CFM measured at 90 PSI, and a 120 PSI ceiling. It runs on 230V, 1-Phase power. That is enough continuous air for a two-technician bay running impact tools, a blow gun and an air ratchet, or for a clean-air process line that needs steady pressure all day without an oil-removal filter train.
Will it fit?
This is a horizontal machine, so it wants floor length rather than headroom. Allow for a footprint of 66.9" long by 21.3" wide, standing 40.6" tall, and remember that the published figure is the machine itself — you need clear air around the flywheel and the cylinder fins for cooling, and enough room at the drain end to reach the tank drain without moving the unit.
It weighs 440 lb. That is a two-person-plus-equipment lift, not a two-person carry, and it is the number to plan your unloading around.
Power is 230V single-phase. The specification sheet calls for a 30-amp breaker on a dedicated circuit. Confirming the supply and having the connection made by a licensed electrician is the buyer's responsibility — the compressor ships wired for the voltage above and we cannot verify what is behind your wall. If the room only has ordinary household outlets, this is not the machine for it.
Why an oil-free pump that is still cast iron matters
Oil-free pumps run hotter than lubricated ones, because oil is a coolant as well as a lubricant. Schulz answers that in three ways on this pump, and all three are visible on the casting. The cylinders are spaced apart rather than siamesed together, so each one sheds its own heat instead of soaking its neighbour. The cooling fins are cut deeper than on a comparable lubricated pump, which increases the surface area doing the work. And the pump turns at 620 RPM, which is slow — fewer strokes per minute means less friction heat generated in the first place, and it is also the single biggest reason a slow pump sounds different in a room than a fast one.
Cast iron holds all of that together. It carries heat away better than alloy and it stays dimensionally stable as it cycles hot and cold, which is what keeps ring and bore clearances honest over years rather than months.
Two stages, and what the second one is for
A two-stage pump compresses in the first cylinder, passes the air on, and compresses again in the second. Each stage does less work, so each stage runs cooler and wears more slowly, and the pump reaches its 120 PSI ceiling without straining. The valves handling that transfer are Swedish steel — a component-level detail that matters because valve flutter is the usual first failure in a hard-worked compressor, and stiffer, better-tempered valve plate material is what delays it.
The tank usually outlives the pump
The 60-gallon steel tank carries an internal antibacterial powder coating, which is the detail that follows from the clinical applications above: a compressor that makes oil-free air is not much use if the receiver it sits in is growing something. The tank has an ASME safety valve and a drain, and the outside is epoxy coated to slow corrosion on the tank and pump alike. Tank outlet is 1/2".
Drain the tank. Condensate is the reason air receivers fail from the inside, and a weekly habit costs nothing.
Two things to confirm with us before you order
- Regulator. Published information for this model differs: the specification table on this page records the regulator as not fitted, while the manufacturer's feature list describes a built-in regulator and pressure switch. If you are buying on the assumption that regulation is built in, ask us to confirm it against the unit before you order and we will check it with Schulz.
- Sound level. A published sound figure exists for this model but carries no measurement standard and no distance, so it is not quoted here — a decibel number with no conditions attached cannot be compared against anything. If noise decides the room this machine goes in, ask us and we will get the figure and its conditions from Schulz.
Perfect for
- Clinics, dental rooms and laboratories that need genuinely oil-free air without a filtration train to maintain.
- Professional workshops running two technicians on hand tools, where 15 CFM at 90 PSI is the realistic working number.
- Light industrial process lines where oil carry-over would contaminate the product.
- Serious home shops with 230V available and floor length to spare, wanting a machine that will not be replaced in five years.
What's in the box
The compressor as described: pump, motor, belt drive and guard, mounted on the 60-gallon horizontal tank, with the intake air filter, pressure gauge, ASME safety valve and tank drain fitted. Hose, fittings, air-line filtration and the electrical connection are not included and are not implied anywhere on this page.

Certification, stated plainly
The tank carries an ASME safety valve, and ASME is the pressure-vessel code that applies to the receiver. That is the certification our data records for this machine, and it is the only one we will state. We are not claiming any additional third-party safety listing for the unit as a whole, because our product data does not claim one. If your insurer, your facility's compliance policy or your local authority requires a specific listing — which is common in medical and institutional settings — ask us and we will confirm what appears on the unit's data plate before you order rather than after.
Shipping and delivery
This ships as freight to the lower 48 states, and freight is quoted live at checkout for your actual address rather than estimated here. You will need to be able to take the unit off the truck — a forklift, a loading dock, or an engine hoist and a few willing people — or you can arrange to collect it from the carrier's terminal instead. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, which the checkout shows before you pay. Pickup is available at Acworth, GA.
Inspect the shipment before you sign. Note any crushed crating, dented tank, bent guard or missing carton on the delivery receipt at the time of delivery — a signed clean receipt makes a damage claim very hard to win afterwards. Photograph anything that looks wrong while the driver is still there.
Warranty
Coverage is 1 year, consumer and commercial alike, per the manufacturer's stated terms. Do not disassemble the pump, the motor or the pressure switch before a claim is opened — a unit that has been opened up is normally treated as outside warranty, however good the intention. Call us first and we will tell you what the manufacturer needs to see.
