The interesting thing about this machine is what did not get smaller. It runs a 15 HP motor rather than the larger one fitted to the bigger units in the same family, but it keeps the full-size 120-gallon receiver, the same V-Series cast iron two-stage pump design, the same 175 PSI maximum pressure and the same 1 Year unit with 2 Year pump warranty. Schulz has taken horsepower out of the specification and left the platform alone.

That matters because the parts that determine how long a compressor lasts and how well it stores air are the pump and the tank, not the motor plate. Sizing down to 15 HP reduces what the machine draws from your electrical service; it does not put you on a lighter-duty pump or a smaller tank.

A 175 PSI ceiling is evidence about the pump

Single-stage pumps run out of breath well below 175 PSI, and pushing one there generates heat it cannot shed. Reaching 175 PSI is what a genuine two-stage design is for: compress in the large cylinder, cool the air through an intercooler, then compress the cooled and denser air again in the small one. The intercooling is the whole trick, because cool air takes less work to compress and the pump is not asked to absorb the heat of doing it all in one go.

Seeing that same 175 PSI figure on the 15 HP build tells you the pump was not substituted for something lighter when the motor shrank. Practically, a higher pressure ceiling lets you run distribution above tool requirement and regulate down at each drop, which absorbs the pressure loss across long pipe runs, elbows, filters and fittings — and it means the 120-gallon tank holds more usable air in the same steel, since stored energy is a function of pressure as well as volume.

Built to be maintained rather than replaced

The V-Series block is solid cast iron with the cylinders splayed apart so each one gets its own path for cooling air, and the fins are cut deep to put more metal in contact with that air. It is splash lubricated, with an oil sight glass on the block — which sounds trivial and is the single most useful maintenance feature on a compressor, because low oil is the most common cause of a dead pump and checking the level should take a glance rather than a spanner.

The drive is a belt, with notched belts fitted as standard inside an enclosed guard. Notched belts flex more easily around the sheaves and run cooler than plain V-belts; the enclosure is there because an exposed drive at working height in a busy shop is a hazard. Inside, the pump uses oversized main bearings — a two-stage crank is loaded unevenly by two different-sized cylinders, and larger bearings carry that at lower unit pressure — and Swedish steel valves, which hold their temper at working temperature and are the reason output does not quietly decline over the years. Components are CNC machined for consistent clearances and powder coated against the corrosion that collects around a tank and its drain.

The magnetic starter is mounted and prewired at the factory, so the machine arrives needing a supply rather than a control panel. Schulz does not publish an amp draw or a breaker size for this model and directs the installation to a certified electrician, and we repeat that as written rather than estimating a circuit on your behalf.

Will it fit?

The machine is 78.3" long and 51.2" high, and it weighs 936 lbs. The length is the constraint: this is a horizontal unit that wants a run of wall, and 936 lbs means it is placed once, with a forklift or a pallet jack, on level concrete.

A note on the width. This product's two data sources disagree about it — the spec metafields and the manufacturer's specification sheet give different figures, and they are not close enough to be a rounding difference. Rather than publish a number that might be wrong, we have left the width off this page. Allow clear air on all sides for pump cooling, keep the intake away from grinder dust and paint overspray, and confirm that 460V three-phase service is available at your building. Sizing and installing the branch circuit, disconnect and grounding to code, through a licensed electrician, is the buyer's responsibility.

Ratings, stated plainly

Schulz rates the safety valve and the air receiver to ASME, which is the pressure-vessel standard an inspector or an insurer normally expects on shop air equipment, and that is the claim made for this machine. It is worth being exact about the boundary: ASME covers the vessel and the valve. It is not a North American third-party electrical safety listing for the complete assembly, and the two are conflated constantly in compressor marketing. We hold no document showing such a listing for this model. If an insurer, a local inspector or an internal facility standard requires a nationally recognized testing laboratory mark on the whole machine, resolve it before you order rather than after the crate is on your floor.

Shipping and delivery

Freight only, to the lower 48 states. The manufacturer states this unit is too large for limited-access delivery: a loading dock or a forklift is required at the receiving site. Check that before you order — a truck arriving at a site with neither has nowhere to put the machine. Delivery is curbside and unloading is the receiver's responsibility; collection from the carrier's terminal is the standard alternative. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, quoted live at checkout. Pickup for Schulz equipment is available in Acworth, GA.

Inspect the crate at the truck before you sign. Punctures, crushed corners, banding that has shifted and oil on the pallet all need to go on the bill of lading while the driver is still there. Signing a clean bill of lading is treated as confirmation that the machine arrived intact, and disputing it afterwards seldom succeeds. Photograph the crate as it comes off the truck.
