Truck wheels are the reason a car balancer sits idle. The hub bores are larger, they vary a lot between makes, and the usual answer is a shelf of individual cones, one of which is always the one somebody has walked off with. This kit is built the other way round: the centring cone is double-sided, so a single component covers hub sizes from 4.75″ to 6.75″ depending on which face you present to the wheel. That range is what takes in the majority of medium and heavy-duty truck wheels in service, and it is the whole reason to buy a kit rather than accumulating cones one job at a time.

Will It Fit?

There is one hard compatibility gate on this product and one soft one. Check both before ordering — a cone kit is easy to buy for the wrong machine.

• Shaft diameter — the hard gate. This kit fits a 40 mm shaft, and only that. Balancer shafts are made in several diameters, they are not interchangeable, and no adapter makes them so — measure the shaft on your machine, or check its model documentation, rather than assuming yours matches. If you are unsure, send us your balancer's model and we will confirm it against the kit before you order.
• Hub bore — the soft gate. The cone centres hubs between 4.75″ and 6.75″. Most medium and heavy-duty truck wheels fall inside that window, but not all of them do — measure the bores you actually see in your bay, particularly on anything older, imported or aftermarket.

Confirming the shaft size and the hub range against your own machine and your own wheels is the buyer's responsibility, and it takes a tape measure and two minutes. We would much rather have that conversation before the order than process a return afterwards.

Why centring is the whole job

A balancer measures where the mass sits relative to the axis it is spinning on. If the wheel is not truly centred on the shaft, the machine measures the mounting error rather than the wheel's imbalance, and it does so perfectly repeatably — which is the trap. You get a confident reading, you fit the weights it asks for, and the truck comes back next week with the same vibration. The technician then blames the balancer, or the tyre, or the driver.

On a truck wheel the consequences are magnified simply by mass. A large, heavy wheel turns a small centring error into a large apparent imbalance, so more weight goes on, further from where it should be. Good cones and a proper backing plate are not an accessory to the balancer — on truck work they are the part of the system that decides whether the reading means anything.
