Description
-Ranger RWB-2D 1-Shelf, 2-Drawer Heavy-Duty Work Bench
Ranger RWB-2D 1-Shelf, 2-Drawer Heavy-Duty Work Bench
The RWB-2D is the only bench in Ranger's work bench family you can lock. Its two drawers are secured by a tumbler key-lock pivot latch — a single latch that pivots across both drawer fronts and locks with a key, rather than two independent cam locks.
That mechanism is worth understanding because it is why the feature is useful rather than decorative. One key, one movement, both drawers: a bench that takes five seconds to secure is a bench that actually gets secured at the end of a shift. A bench that needs two locks turned individually is one that gets locked for the first fortnight and never again. In a shared bay, an apprentice workshop or a unit where cleaners and contractors come through after hours, that difference is the whole point of buying this model over the shelf-only version.
Drawers That Open All the Way
Both drawers run on ball-bearing slides and extend fully. Full extension is not a luxury spec on a work bench — it is what stops the back third of the drawer becoming an archaeological layer. On a partial-extension slide the rearmost portion never comes out past the bench edge, so you reach in blind, and whatever lives back there is effectively lost. A drawer that comes right out is a drawer whose entire volume is usable.
Ball bearings are the second half of that: they are what let a fully extended, fully loaded drawer still roll rather than bind. A loaded drawer at full extension puts a substantial cantilever moment on its slides, and a cheap roller slide sags and jams exactly at the point you need it open.
The Shelf Below
Beneath the drawers is a single shelf running the full width of the bench, positioned to leave legroom at the front. That positioning is deliberate: a full-depth shelf at knee height turns a bench you can stand at into a bench you have to lean over. Here the shelf takes bulk — parts bins, a cleaning tray, boxed components — while the space in front of it stays open for you.
So the storage is stratified by purpose. Drawers hold what is small, valuable and worth locking. The shelf holds what is bulky and does not need securing. The top stays clear.
Will It Fit?
The bench measures 59" wide, 25.25" deep and 34.5" high. The 59" width is the compact one in the family — it fits a bay where the long bench will not — and 25.25" of depth means you can reach the back of the top without climbing onto it. At 34.5" this is standing-work height for hand-tool work.
Allow the footprint plus room for a fully extended drawer to swing out toward you, which is more clearance than people budget for. Shipping weight is 260 lbs and the crate is 61" x 48" x 14", so it arrives flat and heavy: two people minimum, and check the crate will make it through your doorway and round your corners before delivery day rather than on it. Assembly is required — Ranger publishes a single operation and assembly manual covering the RWB-2D together with its RWB-2S and RWB-1TD siblings.
Structure and Finish
The top is published as 5/32-inch rolled-edge steel. The rolled edge stiffens the perimeter against bending, which is what keeps the surface flat under a concentrated load rather than dishing, and it removes the raw sheared edge you would otherwise be pressed against all day. Below it, the steel tubing frame carries cross members and bracing that resist racking — the sideways twist that arrives whenever you lever something, and which is what turns a bench from flat into approximately flat.
All exposed surfaces get an electrostatic, oven-baked powder coat applied after fabrication, so cut edges, welds and drilled holes are covered rather than left bare. Those are the places rust starts on shop furniture. The baked finish then handles the oil, solvent and abrasion that a bench absorbs as a matter of routine.
Because the bench is bolted rather than welded together, individual parts — a drawer slide, a shelf, a bracket — can be replaced without dismantling or scrapping the bench.
Perfect For
Shared shop bays where tools need locking at the end of a shift. Training workshops and apprentice bays, for the same reason. Mobile and small-unit operations where a 59" bench fits and a seven-foot one does not. Home garages that need a proper bench with secured storage rather than a bench plus a separate tool chest.
What's in the Box
The bench ships flat with its steel tubing frame, the top, two drawers with their ball-bearing slides and the tumbler key-lock pivot latch, one full-width shelf, the fasteners and the operation and assembly manual. This listing does not itemise any accessory beyond that — no vice, no backboard, no casters — so ask us if you need something specified on the order.

Load Rating, Stated Honestly
Ranger publishes no load rating for the RWB-2D in this listing's specification table, and we are not going to supply a figure we cannot source. If you intend to set a specific known weight on the top, tell us what it is and we will ask the manufacturer for the rating before you order. That is a slower answer than a number, and a considerably more useful one.
Certification, Stated Honestly
No independent third-party product listing is claimed for this bench and none is implied here. A bench is not a lifting device, so the listing requirements that govern shop lifting equipment do not usually apply. If your workplace policy requires load-rated furniture backed by documented test evidence, start from the point above and ask for the manufacturer's documentation before relying on the bench for a rated load.
Shipping and Delivery
Ships by freight to the lower 48 states. Freight means kerbside or dock delivery rather than delivery into the building, so plan to take the crate off the truck yourself or to collect it from the carrier's terminal. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, quoted live at checkout with the freight. Inspect the crate before signing and record any damage on the bill of lading at the moment of delivery — a dented drawer front or a bowed top is obvious in the crate and impossible to prove once the bench is built.
Warranty
Ranger publishes a warranty statement covering its products and that document governs this bench. This listing states no term, so none is quoted here — ask and we will send you the current statement before you order. If a drawer slide or the lock fails, contact us before drilling, cutting or replacing it yourself. A modified bench is one a warranty claim will not cover.
