Description
-Ranger RFJ-3T Racing Style 3 Ton Floor Jack with Plunger U-Joint
The release is the feature: a U-joint linkage that lets you meter the way down
Lifting a car is the easy half. Putting it down is where jacks are actually judged, and it is where the Ranger RFJ-3T earns its name. The handle drives the release valve through a universal-joint linkage rather than a rigid stem, which means the valve responds to a fraction of a turn from wherever the handle happens to be sitting. You are not stuck feeling for a bite point at one particular handle angle, and you are not choosing between shut and open. You can settle a car onto stands in millimetres, hold it, adjust it, and set it down.
That matters most in the operation people do badly: transferring a lifted corner onto jack stands. A coarse valve does it in one drop and shifts the stand; a metered one lets the weight arrive gradually enough that you can see the stand is taking it squarely. Behind that sits a plunger and roller-cam lift arrangement, 6,000 lbs (2,722 kg) of capacity — 3 tons — and a heavy-gauge steel body with flanged side plates.
Will It Fit?
Check these four against the vehicles you actually work on rather than the one you had in mind.
- Entry height. The pad sits 4.75″ (121 mm) above the floor fully lowered. This is a shop jack rather than an extreme low-profile one — if your bay is full of lowered cars with aftermarket ride height, measure before you order, because 4.75″ is a real gate and it is not adjustable.
- Lift height. The pad reaches 20.5″ (521 mm). Match that against the working height of your jack stands, not against how high you would like the car.
- Reach. The chassis is 28″ (711 mm) long, which covers the jack points on most cars and light trucks without needing to lift at an angle.
- Working width. 11″ (279 mm) across the front, widening to 14.5″ (368 mm) at the rear. That taper is what lets the nose go into a tight gap while the base stays broad enough to resist a sideways shove.
- Surface. Hard, flat, level floor. The rolling casters and the roller-cam front both assume it, and a sloped or crumbling surface defeats a jack of any rating.
Verifying clearance and lift points on your own vehicles is the buyer's responsibility. Tell us what you run and we will look at the numbers with you before you commit.
Why a racing-style chassis is a shop feature too
"Racing style" is usually cosmetic. Here it describes a real geometry decision: a compact, flanged body designed to be shoved into position quickly and repeatedly. The flanged side plates are formed edges rather than flat plate, which resists the twist a jack picks up when a car is lifted slightly off-centre — twist is the failure that shows up as an arm that no longer tracks straight, long before anything actually breaks.
The casters are linked, so the jack steers as a unit rather than fighting itself when you push it. Anyone who has wrestled a heavy jack whose rear casters have decided to point in different directions will recognise what that is worth over a day of wheel-off work in a pit lane or a busy bay.
Sealed hydraulics and a valve that will not be overrun
The hydraulic system is double sealed. In a workshop, jack failure is far more often contamination than wear: brake dust, grinding grit and oil mist find their way past a single seal, score the ram and take the lift with them. Two seals buy years, not months.
A safety overload valve sits behind the pump. Its job is not glamorous — it bleeds off pressure instead of letting the jack be pumped beyond its rating, which is exactly what happens when somebody optimistically puts a heavier vehicle on a 3-ton jack. It protects the operator first and the jack second.
One piece of setup advice that comes with the product and is worth repeating: hydraulic systems can carry trapped air from manufacture or transit. If the jack feels spongy or lifts short on its first outing, bleed it before assuming a fault. It is a two-minute job and it is the single most common reason a new jack seems disappointing.
Perfect For
- Race and track-day teams, where cars go up and down repeatedly and the descent has to be controlled every time.
- Performance and tuning shops doing wheel-off and suspension work all day.
- General workshops needing a 3-ton jack that covers cars and light trucks from one trolley.
- Committed home garages where the jack is used often enough that the quality of the release valve is something you feel rather than read about.
How to use it, briefly
Roll the jack under a manufacturer-designated lift point and make sure the saddle is centred on it before pumping — a saddle that starts off-centre stays off-centre all the way up. Pump the handle to the height you need, then place rated jack stands and lower the vehicle onto them using the twist release. Never work under a vehicle that is held up by a hydraulic jack alone, however good the jack is. Between jobs, keep the pivot points and linkages lubricated, check the fluid level, keep the body clean and look for weeping seals. Any leak, or any behaviour that is not normal, means the jack comes out of service until it has been inspected.
What's in the Box
The jack and its handle. The copy on file does not itemise anything beyond that, and we are not going to invent a contents list — no jack stands, no adapter pads and no service kit are listed as supplied, so plan to buy rated stands separately if you do not have them. If you need the packing list confirmed before ordering, ask us.

Certification, stated honestly
The data we hold for the RFJ-3T claims no independent third-party safety listing, and we are not going to put one on the page by implication. If a racing series' technical regulations, an insurer, an employer safety programme or a local inspection scheme requires lifting equipment to hold a specific recognised listing, treat that as unresolved and check it against the manufacturer's documentation before you buy — ask us and we will put the question to Ranger in writing. Independent of any listing, the rule that actually prevents injuries is the simple one: a floor jack raises a vehicle, rated stands hold it, and nothing goes underneath until the stands are taking the load.
Shipping and delivery
Your shipping cost is calculated live at checkout for your address, so you see the actual figure before you buy rather than a guess afterwards. Heavier consignments move by freight carrier, and freight delivery is kerbside: you need to be able to unload, or you can arrange collection from the carrier's local terminal, which is usually simpler for a workshop with no dock. Delivery to a residential address carries an additional residential fee, applied once per brand on an order rather than per item. Inspect before you sign and note any damage on the carrier's paperwork at the time — after a clean signature a claim is very difficult to pursue. We ship within the contiguous United States.
Warranty
Ranger publishes a single warranty document covering its product line and we hold a copy for this jack. We have not printed a term here because the data on file does not state one, and inventing a warranty period to fill a gap on a listing is worse than leaving the gap visible — ask us and we will send the current document over before you order. If the jack loses lift, drifts down under load or weeps fluid, take it out of service and contact us before you open the cylinder, the pump or the release assembly. A hydraulic unit that has been dismantled is normally outside any claim, and an intact fault is one we can get resolved.
