Ranger R745 and DST2420: the balancer is the reason to look at this package
Bundles are usually assembled around a headline machine and padded out. Here the interesting component is the DST2420 dynamic balancer, which Ranger rates as accurate to within hundredths of an ounce and specifies for wheels up to 30" in maximum diameter. Pair it with the straightforward R745 changer and a bulk supply of adhesive tape weights, and you have a bay that is set up to produce vibration-free results on large modern wheels rather than merely to get tires on and off them.
That emphasis is deliberate and it is worth understanding before you buy, because it tells you which half of this package will be doing the heavier lifting in your shop.
Two capacity figures, and they do not mean the same thing
This is the single most useful thing to get straight about the package, and it catches people out. The R745 changer is quoted at a 21" capacity. The DST2420 balancer is quoted at 30" maximum wheel diameter. Those are not the same measurement and the larger figure does not extend the smaller one.
A changer's capacity describes the rim it can clamp and work. A balancer's maximum wheel diameter describes the whole assembly it will spin. So a wheel can be perfectly within the balancer's range and still be outside what the changer is built to service. Check both figures against your own work — separately — rather than reading the bigger number as the package's headline. We would rather flag that here than have you discover it with a customer's wheel on the floor.
Dynamic balancing, and what "hundredths of an ounce" is worth
Dynamic balancing measures the assembly in two planes rather than one, which is what corrects the wobble a wheel develops around its own centreline as well as the up-and-down hop. On anything wider than a narrow steel rim — and every modern fitment is — the two-plane result is the one the customer feels at highway speed.
Resolution to hundredths of an ounce matters for the same practical reason a good balancer always does: it lets the machine specify the smallest correction that will genuinely settle the assembly instead of the first correction that improves it. Less mass ends up on the customer's wheel, less weight comes off your shelf, and a wheel balanced tightly stays balanced longer because there is less hanging on it to shed or shift.
The shaft is 40 mm. If you already own cones, flanges or adapters, that is the figure to check them against before ordering — shaft diameter is the one incompatibility no amount of ingenuity works around.
What the R745 changer is scoped for
The R745 is a swing-arm changer intended for entry-level tire and wheel service: rapid work on most types of passenger wheels, plus spare tires and trailer tires. That is a description, not a limitation to apologise for. The majority of tire work in a general repair shop is exactly that, and a machine scoped to it does the job quickly without charging you for assist towers and drop-centre tooling that would sit idle.
Where it is not the right tool is on stiff-sidewall work — run-flats and aggressive low-profile fitments — which need powered assistance to hold a bead in the rim's drop centre. If that is a routine part of your day rather than an occasional one, this changer will frustrate you, and a machine with an assist tower is the honest recommendation instead.
Weights included, which is rarer than it sounds
A combination supply of Quick-Peel adhesive steel tape weights comes with the package: 1,400 pieces at 0.25 oz each, 1/2" wide, 22 lbs. of weight in total, in both black and silver.
Two finishes are supplied because the correct choice is cosmetic and wheel-dependent — silver vanishes against a machined or bare alloy, black against a dark or painted finish — and an invisible weight is a weight the customer never mentions. Steel rather than lead is the other point worth making: lead weights are restricted in a growing number of jurisdictions and an environmental problem everywhere they are still permitted, since they end up on the roadside. Adhesive tape weights also let you apply precisely the mass the balancer asked for, in the position it marked, rather than rounding up to the next clip-on size available in the drawer.

Before you order
Confirm the electrical configuration each machine ships in with us, and have the outlets confirmed where the machines will actually stand — a package delivered into a bay with one usable socket sits in its crates. Check your existing cones and adapters against the 40 mm shaft. And measure both machines' intended positions with the working room around them included, not just the machines themselves. All three are the buyer's responsibility, and all three are far cheaper to settle before delivery than after.
Certification and compliance, stated honestly
Neither machine in this package carries a third-party safety listing in the product data we hold, and we will not suggest that it does. Where an insurer, a fleet contract or a local jurisdiction requires equipment holding an independent test-house listing — issued by an outside laboratory, as distinct from a manufacturer's own declaration of conformity — read the precise wording of that requirement before ordering. Ask us if you would like help matching it to a machine; guessing is the expensive option.
Shipping and delivery
This is a multi-crate freight shipment within the lower 48 states: changer, balancer and a carton of weights travelling together. Arrange unloading at your end — a forklift, a dock with a pallet jack, or a terminal collection you make yourself. Delivery to a residential address is a separate service from a commercial dock and carries a residential fee, quoted live at checkout. Count the crates against the carrier's paperwork before signing anything, look them over for damage, and note anything wrong on the bill of lading with the driver present. On multi-piece shipments a short count is more common than damage, and it is far easier to resolve at the kerb than the following week.
Warranty
Both machines are covered by the manufacturer's published warranty documents, and we will send you the current versions before you order if you ask for them. If something goes wrong, raise the claim before anyone takes anything apart. Opening a balancer's shaft or sensor housing, or stripping a pneumatic cylinder on the changer, destroys the evidence the claim depends on and generally voids the coverage on the component in question.
