Quincy 4103DS12VCB23 QT Pro 10 HP 120-Gallon Two-Stage Air Compressor, 230V 3-Phase

Compressor listings normally tell you everything a machine has and nothing it lacks. This one is worth buying for a reason that only makes sense if we do both, so here is the short version: the QT Pro is the simpler of Quincy’s two 10 HP shop packages. Two-piece connecting rods, a splash-lubricated cast-iron pump, a magnetic starter, a finned intercooler and a 120-gallon vertical receiver. No aftercooler. No electronic tank drain. No automatic shutdown on low oil.

For a shop running impact guns, blowguns, hoists and general bay air, that is a sensible machine and a cheaper one. For a paint booth or a plasma table, the omissions matter and you should read the last two paragraphs of this section before you order.

Fewer parts is a real claim, not a slogan

Two-piece connecting rods are the headline feature Quincy lists for this pump, and the reason is arithmetic rather than marketing. Every joint inside a compressor is a wear surface, a fastener that can loosen and a component that eventually needs a technician standing in front of it. Reducing the count is one of the few reliability improvements that cannot be undone by a bad batch or a hot summer.

Splash lubrication follows the same logic. There is no oil pump, no filter and no pressure gallery to fail; the crankshaft throws oil from a sump onto the bearings and cylinder walls, and an oil sight glass lets you confirm the level in a second. Belt drive rather than direct coupling keeps the pump turning more slowly than the motor and isolates the crank from motor shock loads. Quincy rates the pump past 50,000 hours of service.

What two stages buy you at 175 PSI

Air enters the low-pressure cylinder, is compressed part of the way, passes through the high-efficiency finned intercooler where the heat of that first compression is removed, and then enters the high-pressure cylinder for the rest of the journey. Rated maximum is 175 PSI.

The intercooler is doing the real work. Compressing hot air costs more energy than compressing cool air, and a single-stage pump asked to reach 175 PSI in one bite runs hot enough to cook its own oil. Splitting the job and cooling in the middle is why this class of machine can hold that pressure through a full shift rather than in short bursts.

The three things it does not have

Our specification data records this model with no aftercooler, no electronic drain valve and no low oil shut-off switch. Taking them in turn:

  • No aftercooler means the discharge air is not cooled between the pump and the tank, so more of its moisture condenses further down the line — in your pipework and your tools rather than in the receiver. If you are spraying paint or cutting with plasma, plan on an aftercooler, a dryer or a properly designed dry-line loop.
  • No electronic drain valve means somebody has to drain the receiver manually and regularly. It is a two-minute job and it is the single thing that decides whether an air receiver rusts from the inside. A retrofit automatic drain is inexpensive.
  • No low oil shut-off means the machine will keep running with the oil level down. Check the sight glass on a schedule, not when you remember.

None of that makes it a bad compressor. It makes it a compressor with a maintenance routine, and if you would rather the machine did that thinking for you, the horizontal QT MAX package in this catalogue has all three features fitted.

Will It Fit?

  • Footprint: 40" by 30", plus clearance to reach the belt guard and the oil fill.
  • Height: 75" overall, and you want headroom above that to lift the pump for service.
  • Mass: 1,000 lbs dry, most of it high up. A level slab and anchor bolts, not packers.
  • Supply: 230V, 3-phase. The winding and starter are fixed at build, so a voltage mismatch is a return, not a rewire.
  • Protection: breaker and conductor sizing is a job for a certified electrician; the correct value depends on your run length and local code, so we do not publish one.
  • Air connection: 1" tank outlet.

Preparing the site is the buyer’s responsibility — confirming the 230V 3-phase supply is genuinely available where the machine will stand, that the slab will take the load and the anchors, that the room is ventilated, and that the electrical work is permitted and inspected as your jurisdiction requires.

Perfect For

  • General automotive service bays running impacts, ratchets and lifts off a large receiver.
  • Tyre shops and quick-service operations with heavy intermittent demand.
  • Agricultural and heavy equipment workshops where the air is used for tools rather than finishing.
  • Buildings already on 230V three-phase, the most common commercial three-phase service.

Two specifications are deliberately absent above: delivered air volume and running current. Our catalogue holds both without their units, and a number whose unit we cannot evidence is one we will quote you from the manufacturer’s sheet instead of publishing.

Certification, stated plainly

This unit uses an ASME certified tank with the pressure relief valve, discharge and receiver arrangement that goes with it — a genuine third-party pressure-vessel certification, and usually the one an insurer or an inspector asks to see. A CSA mark is also carried. There is a further reference in our supplier data to a North American third-party electrical listing, which we are not printing because the record behind it is not clean. Ask us before ordering if a named electrical listing is a condition of your cover, and we will confirm what the data plate says.

Shipping and delivery

This ships as freight within the lower 48 states, crated on a skid. It is a tall, heavy package: arrange a forklift or a dock before the delivery date, because the driver’s responsibility ends at the tailgate. Terminal pickup is available and some shops prefer it.

A residential delivery address attracts a residential fee — let us know at order time if that is where it is going.

Inspect the freight while the driver waits. Photograph the crate, check the skid and the sheet metal, and record anything wrong on the bill of lading before signing. A clean signature closes most damage claims before they start.

Warranty

The machine carries a 1-year factory warranty from Quincy for both consumer and commercial use, and that becomes the 3-year "No Bull" warranty — including on-site service and labour — if the EWK-4 Maintenance Kit is bought at the same time and the unit is registered with the manufacturer.

The one house rule on warranty work: do not disassemble anything before you speak to us. Once a pump has been opened, the original failure can no longer be established, and that is the most frequent reason a valid claim gets declined.
