Quincy 4103DS12VCB20 QT Pro 10 HP 120-Gallon Two-Stage Air Compressor, 208V 3-Phase

The interesting number on this machine is not the horsepower, it is the footprint. This is a thousand pounds of industrial compressor and 120 gallons of stored air standing on a rectangle 40" by 30" — roughly the plan area of a domestic chest freezer. The QT Pro sends the receiver upward instead of outward, and in a shop where every square foot of floor is a bay, a bench or a parts rack, that is the difference between the compressor fitting and the compressor being someone else’s problem.

Above the tank is a splash-lubricated two-stage pump in cast iron with aluminium heads, belt driven from a 1,750 RPM industrial motor, with a high-efficiency finned intercooler between the stages. Quincy rates the pump beyond 50,000 hours. This part number is built for 208V, 3-phase supply.

Floor area is the cost nobody prices

Compressors get compared on capacity and price and almost never on plan area, which is odd, because floor space is the most expensive thing in most workshops. A horizontal 120-gallon receiver of the same volume occupies close to double the footprint of this one. Standing the tank up recovers that area and lets the machine go into a corner, a plant alcove or the dead space beside a roller door.

The trade is height and stability. At 75" overall this is a tall, comparatively narrow object carrying most of its mass — pump, motor and starter — near the top. Set it on a flat, sound slab, get it level, and anchor it. A vertical compressor that is shimmed on timber and left unbolted will walk, and a walking compressor works its own pipe joints loose.

Two-piece connecting rods, and why simplicity is a feature

The QT Pro pump uses two-piece connecting rods. That sounds like trivia until you count what is inside a running compressor: every additional joint, bearing and fastener is another thing that can wear, work loose or need a technician. Fewer moving parts is the most honest reliability claim a manufacturer can make, because it is structural rather than aspirational.

The same thinking runs through the rest of the package. Lubrication is splash — an oil bath and the crank throwing it where it needs to go — rather than a pump, a filter and a gallery. An oil sight glass makes the level check visual. The magnetic starter protects the motor against thermal overload. It is a deliberately plain machine, and plain machines are the ones still working after a decade of second shifts.

Two stages and an intercooler

Air is compressed twice. The first cylinder raises it to an intermediate pressure, the finned intercooler pulls the heat of compression back out, and the second cylinder takes it to the working pressure — rated to a 175 PSI maximum. Removing heat between the stages means the second stage is compressing cooler, denser air, which takes less work and keeps discharge temperatures down. That is the whole engineering argument for two-stage machines, and it is why a single-stage unit of the same horsepower cannot hold 175 PSI all day.

Will It Fit?

• Plan area: 40" by 30". Add working clearance on the pump side for belt and oil access.
• Height: 75". Check the ceiling, and check what is above the intended spot — you need room to lift the pump out one day.
• Weight: 1,000 lbs dry. Anchoring is not optional on a package this tall.
• Doorways: the crate is the governing dimension, not the machine. Measure the route from the dock to the corner before delivery day.
• Power: 208V, 3-phase. The motor and starter are voltage-specific and are not convertible on site.
• Circuit: Quincy’s guidance for this model is that a certified electrician sizes the breaker and conductors. We publish that instead of a number, because the right answer depends on your cable run and your local code.
• Outlet: 1" tank connection. Take drops off the top of the header, and slope the header away from the machine.

Site preparation is the buyer’s responsibility. Confirming 208V 3-phase availability at the machine position, slab condition and anchor points, room ventilation, and the permitting and inspection of the electrical work all sit with you and your electrician. Ask us before you order if anything is uncertain.

What this package does not include

We would rather you knew this up front. Our specification data for the QT Pro records no aftercooler, no electronic drain valve and no low oil shut-off switch on this model. Those are the features that distinguish the horizontal QT MAX machines we also stock. If you need the air cooled and dried before it enters your pipework, or you want the pump protected against a falling oil level automatically, look at the QT MAX line or budget for a separate aftercooler and drain. If you are running impact tools, blowguns and general shop air, this package is sized for that job and is the less expensive way to get there.

What is in the Box

No air dryer is supplied. The EWK-4 Maintenance Kit that unlocks the extended warranty term is a separate purchase and must be bought at the same time as the compressor.

Delivered air volume and full-load current are not in that table on purpose. Our catalogue stores both as bare numbers with no unit recorded against them, and we will read you the manufacturer’s published figures rather than restate something we cannot evidence.

Certification, stated plainly

The receiver is an ASME certified tank, supplied with the pressure relief valve, discharge and receiver arrangement that certification requires — that is a real third-party pressure-vessel standard and it is the one an insurer usually asks about. The machine also carries a CSA mark. Our supplier data additionally references a North American third-party electrical listing, and we are not printing that mark because the record is not clean enough to stand behind. If a specific electrical listing is a condition of your insurance or your local code, ask us and we will confirm what is on the data plate.

Shipping and delivery

Freight only, to the lower 48 states, crated on a skid. A thousand-pound vertical package needs a forklift or a dock; the carrier delivers to the truck and no further. Terminal pickup is available if you would rather collect with your own trailer and equipment.

Residential delivery addresses carry a residential fee, so tell us when you order if the machine is going to a home shop rather than a commercial receiving point.

Inspect before signing. Photograph the crate, look for a cracked skid or a leaning load, and write any damage on the bill of lading before the driver leaves. Once a clean bill of lading is signed, a freight claim becomes very difficult.

Warranty

Quincy provides a 1-year factory warranty, consumer and commercial alike. Buying the EWK-4 Maintenance Kit at the time of purchase extends that to the 3-year "No Bull" warranty, which covers on-site service and labour rather than parts alone. The unit must be registered with the manufacturer for the extension to apply, and the warranty document is on the manual tab of this listing.

One standing warning: call before you take anything apart. An opened pump cannot be diagnosed after the fact, and disassembly before a claim is the most common reason a legitimate warranty claim is refused.
