Quincy 471CS80HCB QT Pro — 7.5 HP Two-Stage, 80 Gallon Horizontal, 230V 1-Phase

Two numbers decide whether this machine suits your building, and unusually we can give you both. It stands 47" tall, because the 80 gallon receiver lies down rather than standing up — that puts it under a mezzanine, beneath a low garage ceiling, behind a bench or in a bay where a roller door track rules out anything upright. And our specification record names the electrical requirement outright: an 80 Amp breaker. Most compressor listings send you away to work that out for yourself, which is how people discover on installation day that the panel has no room left.

Beyond the shape and the supply it is a QT Pro: a 7.5 HP industrial motor on 230V 1-Phase power, a two-cylinder cast iron QT-7.5 belt drive pump, splash lubricated and rated at 100% duty, working to 175 PSI.

Confirm the air delivery before you order

There is no CFM figure on this page. Published figures differ: the summary text supplied with this listing describes the machine at a different horsepower and a different air delivery from the title and the specification record. Air delivery is precisely the number a compressed air system gets designed around, so tell us what you are running before you order and we will obtain the manufacturer's rated delivery at your working pressure in writing before you commit to anything.

One more thing worth knowing while we are here: no low oil shutdown is fitted on this build, though several vertical models in the same family do have one. It does not make this a lesser machine, but it does mean the oil sight glass is there to be used — put a check on the maintenance schedule and keep it.

Will it fit, and will your panel take it?

Horizontal machines trade floor area for headroom, and that is the entire argument. This one measures 70" long, 23" wide and 47" tall — a long, narrow strip of floor, usually along a wall where the space was being wasted anyway, and low enough to sit under shelving. Everything you touch regularly comes down to a comfortable working height too: the belt guard, the sight glass, the drain and the outlet are at standing level rather than over your head.

The cost is real estate. A vertical 80 gallon machine uses roughly half the floor and asks for the height back instead. If you have height and no floor, buy upright; if you have floor and a low roof, buy this. Neither is better in the abstract — they solve different buildings.

Weight is 740 lb, so plan the route and the final position together. Electrically, the record calls for an 80 Amp breaker on a 230V 1-Phase supply; have a certified electrician confirm the conductor sizing and the disconnect for your particular run before delivery, since cable length and ambient conditions both bear on it. Confirming ceiling height, access, floor loading and the supply itself is the buyer's responsibility.

What 100% duty actually means

A duty cycle rating describes how much of an hour a compressor may spend compressing. A machine rated at half duty is designed to rest; run it continuously and you are outside its design envelope, whatever it says on the tank. A 100% duty rating means the machine can run continuously without a required off period.

That matters if your demand is steady rather than peaky — a spray booth partway through a job, a blast cabinet, a production line, a busy tyre bay in the summer. It is also why the pump is built the way it is: cast iron cylinders holding tolerance when hot, industrial-class bearings, a balanced counter-weighted crankshaft and a large fan-shaped cast iron flywheel angled to drive cooling air over the pump. Continuous running is a cooling problem before it is anything else.

Cooling, sealing and the motor

A high-efficiency finned tube intercooler sits between the two compression stages. Cooling the air there does two jobs at once: the second stage compresses cooler, denser air, so it does less work; and lower temperatures stop carbon building up in the head, which is what kills valves. The reed valves themselves are stainless steel with controlled lift, so they resist corrosion and do not hammer. Graphite cylinder and head gaskets keep the seal through heat cycles, and two-piece connecting rods keep the number of moving parts down.

The motor is a capacitor start industrial unit with built-in thermal overload, running at a lower speed than a general-purpose motor of the same rating. Slower means cooler, quieter and cheaper to run, and it is the reason a machine like this can be asked to work all day without complaint.

Perfect For

  • Low-ceiling workshops — the single clearest reason to choose this over the vertical.
  • Single-phase shops needing 7.5 HP without a three-phase installation.
  • Continuous-demand work: spraying, blasting, production air.
  • Under mezzanines and behind benches, where the floor is available and the height is not.

What's in the Box

The complete assembled compressor: two-cylinder cast iron QT-7.5 belt drive pump, 7.5 HP industrial motor with thermal overload, balanced cast iron flywheel, high-efficiency finned tube intercooler, the 80 gallon horizontal receiver, gauges and a magnetic starter. Filtration, dryers, pipework, hose and the electrical installation are not part of the package; ask and we will quote them alongside.

Certification, stated plainly

The current copy states UL and CSA approval on the electrical components, our certification field adds ASME for the receiver, and the copy describes the machine as built in the U.S.A. Those are the claims the data carries and we will make no others. What we do not hold is a third-party safety listing for the completed machine as an assembly — a different document from a component approval, covering different ground. If an insurer, an inspector or a corporate standard requires that, raise it with us before you order and we will ask the manufacturer for the certificate rather than assume one exists.

Shipping and Delivery

Shipped freight within the lower 48, priced live at checkout for the address you enter. At 740 lb, and 70" long, this is a proper freight item: arrange a forklift or a dock, or collect from the carrier's terminal, which many customers find quicker than scheduling a delivery window. Residential addresses carry a residential fee.

Inspect the shipment while the driver is still on site. Check the crating, the length of the tank shell, the gauges and the starter enclosure, and note any damage on the bill of lading before you sign. Once a clean receipt is signed, the carrier's position is that the machine arrived in perfect condition.

Warranty

A 1 year factory warranty applies. Quincy's 3-Year "No Bull" extension requires the EWK-3 maintenance kit to be purchased with the compressor and the unit to be registered at www.quincycompressor.com, and it brings on-site and labour service with it; the warranty document is on the manual tab of this listing. The kit cannot be added later, so mention it while ordering.

If a failure occurs, contact us and open the claim before anything is dismantled. A pump that has already been taken apart is, in practice, a pump that is no longer covered.
