Quincy 573DS80VCA20 QP Pro 7.5 HP, 80-Gallon Pressure Lubricated Two-Stage Air Compressor (208V, 3-Phase)

The QP Pro line exists because of one component: a gerotor positive displacement oil pump. Most reciprocating shop compressors are splash lubricated, meaning a dipper on the connecting rod flings oil around the crankcase and hopes it lands where it is needed. This one has an actual oil pump, driven by the crankshaft, delivering pressurised oil to the crankshaft, bearings and rods on every revolution. Quincy puts a number on the difference: up to 15% longer life than a splash-lubricated unit.

This is the 208V three-phase build, which matters more than it sounds. A great many leased commercial units, strip-mall bays and older mixed-use buildings are fed from a 208V wye service rather than the more common higher voltage, and a motor wound for one is not correct on the other. If your panel reads 208V, this is the member of the family to buy.

What Pressure Lubrication Actually Buys You

Splash lubrication is adequate when a compressor runs in bursts and gets time to cool. It becomes the weak point when the machine runs long cycles, because oil delivery depends on crank speed and oil level rather than on a pump that does not care. A gerotor pump is positive displacement: it moves a fixed volume per revolution, so the bearings see a consistent oil supply whether the compressor has been running for two minutes or two hours.

The practical result is that the parts which normally fail first, the rod bearings and the crank journals, stop being consumables. A spin-on oil filter is fitted in the same circuit, so the oil is being cleaned continuously rather than accumulating wear metal until the next drain interval. Together those two parts are the reason the QP Pro is specified where a shop cannot afford a compressor to be the reason work stops.

The Pump, the Valves and the Gaskets

The pump is a two-stage, belt-driven, cast-iron design with an aluminium head, working to a ceiling of 175 PSI. Cast iron gives the cylinders thermal stability and wear resistance; the aluminium head sheds heat faster than iron would, which is exactly where you want the heat leaving.

Reed valves are stainless steel and run with valve bumpers, which limit how far each reed can lift. Uncontrolled lift is what cracks reeds, so bumpers are a durability part rather than a performance one, and stainless resists the corrosion that condensate brings. Cylinder and head gaskets are graphite, which holds a seal through the heat cycling that a two-stage pump imposes on the joint every time it starts and stops.

Cooling: Where Two-Stage Efficiency Comes From

Between the first and second stages sits a high-efficiency fin and tube intercooler, and driving air across it is an electronically balanced fan-type cast-iron flywheel. Balancing the flywheel electronically is a vibration measure as much as an airflow one, and vibration is what loosens fasteners and cracks brackets on a machine that runs all day.

Cooling between stages is not a refinement. Compressed air leaves the first stage hot, and hot air is bulky, so a second stage fed uncooled air spends its work moving heat rather than raising pressure. Dropping the interstage temperature raises efficiency and knocks a large share of the water out of the air before it reaches the tank.

Will It Fit?

The 80-gallon receiver is vertical, so the footprint is small and the height is not: 37" long by 24" wide, standing 74" tall, at 720 lbs. Measure your ceiling before anything else, and remember that you need clearance above the unit to get at the head and the belt guard, not just enough to stand it up.

Electrically, this is 208V three-phase and it is hard-wired equipment. Quincy does not publish a fixed breaker size and refers the installation to a certified electrician, because the correct overcurrent device depends on your conductor sizing, run length and local code. A magnetic starter is supplied with the machine. Confirm your service voltage at the panel rather than from the building's paperwork, and treat site preparation, the electrical circuit and any permits as your responsibility.

Perfect For

  • Independent repair shops in leased space fed by a 208V wye service.
  • Tyre and alignment bays running impact tools through a full working day.
  • Body shops and finishing work, where clean, consistently lubricated air matters to the result.
  • Any shop whose current compressor is on its second or third pump rebuild.

What's in the Box

Delivered as a complete tank-mounted machine: the pressure-lubricated two-stage cast-iron pump, the gerotor oil pump and spin-on oil filter, the 7.5 HP motor and belt drive, the fin and tube intercooler, the cast-iron flywheel, the magnetic starter, and the 80-gallon vertical tank. Shop piping, disconnect, dryer and filtration are separate purchases.

Certification, Honestly

The manufacturer's data for this compressor records an ASME marking on the pressure vessel and a CSA marking alongside it. They are separate documents doing separate jobs: one describes how the receiver was built and inspected against a pressure vessel code, the other addresses electrical and product safety on the motor and control side. Holding one tells you nothing about the other.

Verify both against the data plate on the machine when it arrives, because that plate is what an inspector or an insurer reads, and it is the only version of the claim that travels with the unit. If a particular listing is a condition of your lease, your insurance or your local code, check it before installation rather than after.

Shipping and Delivery

Freight to the lower 48 states. The compressor weighs 720 lbs and ships upright on a pallet, so you need a forklift, a dock or a terminal pickup arranged in advance. Deliveries to a residential address carry a residential fee.

Inspect before signing. A vertical tank is top-heavy in transit, so look specifically for a machine that has leaned against its bracing, damaged guards, and oil on the pallet, and write anything you find on the bill of lading while the driver is still there. A clean signature closes off most of a freight claim.

Warranty

A 1-year factory warranty applies, and Quincy extends it to a 3-year "No Bull" warranty when the manufacturer's conditions are satisfied. Those conditions are set at the point of sale, typically requiring the matching maintenance kit to be bought with the compressor and the unit to be registered with Quincy, so deal with them at purchase rather than discovering them at claim time. The warranty documentation supplied with the unit carries the full terms.

If a fault appears, file first and investigate second. Pumps and motors that have been opened before inspection are routinely declined, however clear the failure looks on your bench.
