Quincy 5153DS12HCA46 QP Pro 15 HP 460V Built-to-Order Two-Stage Air Compressor

Start with the thing most listings bury: this compressor is built to order. Quincy takes up to ten business days to produce it before it ships, because the 460V three-phase configuration is not a unit that sits on a shelf waiting for a buyer. That is worth knowing on the day you order rather than the day you expected delivery, and it is the single most useful fact on this page for anyone planning an installation around an electrician visit or a shutdown week. Plan the lead time in, and the rest of this machine is the QP Pro package: pressure lubrication, cast-iron construction and a 120-gallon horizontal receiver.

Why it is built rather than stocked

Three-phase compressors at 460V are shop and plant equipment, not retail goods. The motor, the starter and the control wiring are specific to the supply, so the practical choice for a manufacturer is to build each one against a confirmed order rather than hold stock of a configuration most buyers will never ask for. The upside is a machine assembled and tested recently rather than one that has spent two years in a warehouse with oil settled in one place. The downside is the calendar, and it is a real one — if you need air next week, this is not the compressor to order, and we would rather say so here than apologise later.

The flywheel is a cooling fan

Look at the flywheel and you are looking at the cooling system. It is an electronically balanced fan-type cast-iron casting, and the fan geometry is doing as much work as the mass: it drives air across the intercooler, the cylinders and the heads every time the pump turns. Electronic balancing matters because an out-of-balance flywheel at working speed puts a cyclic load into the crankshaft bearings that no lubrication system can cancel out. Combined with cast-iron cylinders and a high-efficiency fin and tube intercooler, the effect is a pump that holds its interstage temperature down and therefore holds its tolerances, its gasket seal and its oil condition.

Underneath, the lubrication is the reason this line carries the QP Pro name. A gerotor positive-displacement oil pump feeds the crankshaft, bearings and rods under pressure rather than relying on the crank to sling oil about, with a spin-on filter in the circuit and stainless steel reed valves and graphite gaskets above. Quincy rates the arrangement at up to 15% more life than a splash-lubricated pump.

Will It Fit?

Physically: a horizontal 120-gallon receiver, 78 inches long, 28 inches wide, 55 inches high, 995 lbs. Allow more than the outline. You want to reach the belt guard, the oil sight glass and the spin-on filter without moving the machine, and you want clear air to the flywheel fan. Discharge is a 1-inch outlet and maximum working pressure is 175 PSI.

Electrically: 460V 3-phase, which is an industrial service. There is no adapter, no plug and no domestic version of this supply. If your building does not already have it, the electrical work is a project with its own budget and its own lead time, and it should be scheduled alongside the build time rather than after delivery. The magnetic starter is included. Breaker and conductor sizing is a job for a certified electrician against your actual service — Quincy publishes that instruction rather than a number, deliberately. Confirming supply, access, doorway width and floor space before ordering is the buyer responsibility, and on a built-to-order machine it is a responsibility with a longer tail than usual.

Perfect For

  • Plants and larger shops on 460V service where the lower current draw of the higher voltage suits an existing distribution board.
  • Planned installations and shop fit-outs that can absorb a build lead time in exchange for a made-to-order machine.
  • Continuous-duty industrial air feeding hard-piped ring mains and multiple stations.
  • Sites replacing a failed unit on a schedule rather than in an emergency — this is not the compressor for an unplanned breakdown.

What Arrives

The compressor is delivered assembled on its horizontal receiver, with the gerotor oil pump, spin-on oil filter, stainless steel reed valves with bumpers, graphite cylinder and head gaskets, balanced fan-type cast-iron flywheel and fin and tube intercooler all fitted at the factory. Compressor oil, hose, filtration, dryers, regulators and isolation valves are not listed as included in the documentation we hold, so treat them as separate line items and speak to us beforehand if any of them controls your commissioning date.

Certification, Stated Plainly

The specification sheet for this compressor records ASME, UL and CSA marks. The ASME mark is the pressure vessel certification and it applies to the receiver — its design, its material and its construction — which is exactly what an inspector or an insurer will ask about on a tank this size. The electrical marks cover the motor and control components. What none of these marks does is certify the air the compressor produces, satisfy a local permitting requirement, or remove the periodic inspection obligation that some jurisdictions place on pressure vessels. On a built-to-order machine you have the lead time to sort that out in advance, and it is the right moment to do it.

Shipping and Delivery

Delivery is by freight carrier within the lower 48 states, and the shipping cost is calculated live at checkout for your address rather than fixed in advance. Before you order, settle two things. The first is unloading: nothing about this crate can be lifted by hand, so you need a forklift or a loading dock at the destination, or you can choose to pick the shipment up from the freight terminal yourself. The second is the address type — a residential delivery is a different job for a carrier and carries a residential fee, so declare the destination accurately.

When the truck arrives, look the shipment over before signing anything. Bent guards, a damaged gauge, oil where there should not be oil, or a corner of the receiver that has clearly met a forklift are all worth noting on the bill of lading at that moment. Damage recorded on the paperwork is straightforward to claim; damage discovered after a clean signature usually is not.

Warranty

Quincy backs this compressor with a 1-year factory warranty. That cover extends when the unit is registered with Quincy and maintained using the Quincy kit identified under the specifications tab, so register it as soon as it is delivered rather than filing the paperwork somewhere. Standing advice from us, on this and every compressor: if a fault appears, call before anything is opened. Pumps and starters that have already been apart are the most common reason a manufacturer declines a claim, and it is an avoidable one.
