-Description
-Quincy 5103DS12HCA23 QP Pro - 10 HP Horizontal Two-Stage Air Compressor, 230V 3-Phase
Look at the maintenance schedule of almost any reciprocating air compressor and you will find no oil filter on it, because there is nothing to filter with. Splash-lubricated pumps circulate their oil by throwing it about the crankcase, and dirty oil simply stays dirty until it is drained. This QP Pro is different: it is fully pressure lubricated, and that makes a spin-on oil filter possible. You service it the way you service a car engine.
Put that on a horizontal tank - about 78 inches long, 28 inches wide and 55 inches tall - and everything you have to reach is at standing height. A 10 HP motor on 230 Volt 3-phase supply drives a cast iron two-stage pump with aluminum heads, rated to 175 PSI.
Check the model code before you order
This machine is published under two codes: the description heading and the specification block give 5103DS12HCA23, while the page web address and a sentence of the description give 3103DS12HCA23. If your quote or purchase order names a specific code, send it over and we will confirm the exact build with Quincy before anything ships.
What a spin-on filter changes
Every compressor pump generates wear particles - metal from the rings, the bearings and the rods. In a splash system those particles go round with the oil for the whole service interval, and every pass takes a little more off the surfaces they touch. Full-flow filtration removes them continuously, so the oil stays as an actual lubricant instead of gradually becoming a fine grinding paste.
The practical difference is not dramatic on any single day. It shows up over years, as a pump that still holds its rated pressure when a splash-fed equivalent of the same age has started to fade. And because the filter is a spin-on cartridge, the service itself is a job any technician can do in minutes with no special tools.
An oil sight glass is fitted, so checking the level is a glance rather than a procedure. One caution: published descriptions differ on whether this model also has a low oil pressure shutdown - the description text says it does, the specification field says it does not. Check the level with the sight glass as a matter of routine, and ask us to confirm the shutdown in writing if you are relying on it.
The case for lying down
A horizontal receiver is the answer to a ceiling, not to a floor plan. At about 55 inches tall this machine slides under a mezzanine, beneath a low roof, or into a bay where an overhead door track would foul a vertical tank. It also brings the working parts down to where you stand - drain, sight glass, filter, belt guard and outlet all within easy reach, which is quietly the reason horizontal machines tend to get serviced more often than tall ones.
The trade is footprint: 78 inches of length is a strip of floor you have to give up, usually along a wall. If your building is short of floor rather than height, the vertical version of this compressor is the better fit.
Airflow, and a rule we keep
A delivered-air rating for this pump at 175 PSI is published without a unit of measure attached, and we do not publish performance figures we cannot verify. So there is no airflow number on this page. Ask and we will confirm it in writing for this build before you order - useful anyway if the sizing is close for your tool list.
Siting and supply
Set it on level, solid concrete with room around it for cooling airflow and service access, and plan the route in: a long machine needs a straight approach through a doorway rather than a tight corner. It weighs 850 lbs. Confirming floor, clearance and access is the customer responsibility, and it takes a tape measure and a few minutes.
Electrical supply is 230 Volt 3-phase, the commonest three-phase service in an independent workshop, and a magnetic starter is fitted. Quincy does not publish a breaker size; the specification says to consult a certified electrician, because conductor sizing depends on the length of the run and on local code.

Perfect For
- Shops that keep equipment for a long time and treat oil changes as scheduled work rather than an afterthought.
- Low buildings where a vertical receiver simply will not stand up.
- Independent workshops on 230 Volt 3-phase, which is most of them.
- Anywhere the compressor sits in a working area and needs to be serviced without moving it.
Not for a home garage - three-phase supply is not available in a house.
What Is In The Box
The compressor arrives assembled: pressure-lubricated two-stage pump, motor, belt drive and guard on the 120 gallon horizontal tank, with the magnetic starter, spin-on oil filter and oil sight glass in place. Warranty documentation travels with it.
You will need to supply the electrical feed and disconnect, pipework beyond the 3/4 inch tank outlet, downstream filtration or drying if the work calls for it, isolation pads, and a spare filter and oil for the first service. No aftercooler or air dryer is fitted.
Certification, stated honestly
The manufacturer certification record for this unit names an ASME tank plus UL and CSA marks. Those are statements about the equipment as it left the factory.
They are not statements about your installation, and should never be read as one. Whether the supply, disconnect, protection and ventilation around the machine meet code where you are is determined by a licensed electrician and, where a permit is required, by the local inspector. If an insurer or an authority having jurisdiction wants the compliance documentation, ask us before you order and we will obtain it rather than leave it to surface at sign-off.
Shipping and delivery
Freight to the lower 48 states, with the cost quoted live at checkout against the ZIP code you enter so you see the real figure for your address. Residential delivery carries a residential fee. A commercial address with a dock or a forklift costs less, and collecting from the carrier terminal costs less again.
The unload is your responsibility. The driver delivers kerbside; shifting 850 lbs from there needs a forklift, a dock, or a terminal pickup you have brought equipment for.
Check the shipment before signing. Inspect the crate, the tank, the pump and the motor, and write any damage on the bill of lading before the driver leaves. A clean receipt signed on the day is the single hardest thing to argue past afterwards.
Warranty
This model comes with a 1-year factory warranty. The Quincy documentation shipped with the machine defines the coverage and any registration requirement; ask us if you would like to read it before ordering.
Should something fail, raise the claim before anything is dismantled. A pump, motor or starter that has been opened is extremely difficult to warrant, however evident the fault appeared. Contact us first, retain all parts, and photograph what you found.
