-Description
-Quincy 5103DS12HCA20 QP Pro - 10 HP Horizontal Two-Stage Air Compressor, 208V 3-Phase
The reason to choose this machine over its vertical stablemate has nothing to do with what it does and everything to do with where it goes. It lies down. At roughly 55 inches tall it fits under a mezzanine, beneath a low garage ceiling, behind a bench, or in a bay where a roller-door track rules out anything standing upright. Ceiling height, not floor area, is what stops most compressors being installed where their owner actually wanted them.
What lies inside is Quincy QP Pro: a fully pressure-lubricated two-stage pump with cast iron cylinders and aluminum heads, driven by a 10 HP motor on 208 Volt 3-phase supply, rated to 175 PSI.
Two things to confirm before you order
Published information about this build differs in two places. Both are quick to settle in writing, and both are worth settling first.
Tank size and orientation. Published figures differ: the description heading, the specification fields and the product record all describe a 120 gallon horizontal tank, while a paragraph inside the same description describes an 80-gallon vertical tank. The dimensions published on this page - about 78 inches long, 28 inches wide and 55 inches tall - match the horizontal figure, and so does the model code family. If tank capacity or orientation decides your purchase, ask us to confirm both in writing before you order and we will get the answer straight from Quincy.
The model code. The product title, the heading and the specification block say 5103DS12HCA20. The web address of this page and one sentence of the description say 3103DS12HCA20. Send us the code on your quote and we will confirm the exact build.
Neither point changes what the machine is. Both are worth a written confirmation, and that takes us one phone call.
Why a horizontal receiver, and what it costs you
A horizontal tank trades floor for headroom, and that is the whole of the argument. Laid down, the machine occupies a long, narrow strip - the sort of space that is usually wasted along a wall - and stays below the height of most shelving. Everything you touch regularly comes down to a comfortable level too: the belt guard, the oil sight glass, the drain and the outlet are all at standing height rather than over your head on a ladder.
The cost is real estate. A vertical receiver of similar capacity uses roughly half the floor and asks for the height back instead. If you have height and no floor, buy the vertical version; if you have floor and a low roof, this is the one. Neither layout is better in the abstract - they solve different buildings.
Pressure lubrication, briefly
The QP Pro pump is fed by an oil pump rather than by splash. That matters most on a machine that starts and stops many times a day, because oil arrives at the bearings under pressure from the first revolution instead of waiting for the crankcase to wet itself. It also allows a spin-on filter to be plumbed into the system, so wear particles are removed rather than circulated, and an oil sight glass lets you check the level in a glance.
Airflow: the number we are not printing
Our specification record holds a delivered-air figure for this pump at 175 PSI, but it is stored without a unit. We do not publish a performance number we cannot verify in our own data, so it is not on this page. Ask us and it will come back to you in writing, alongside the tank confirmation above.
Installation
Level, solid concrete, with clearance on every side for cooling air and for access. The machine weighs 850 lbs, and weight concentrated on a few feet finds every imperfection in a slab. Measure the route in - a long horizontal unit needs a straight run through a door rather than a tight turn.
Supply is 208 Volt 3-phase and a magnetic starter is fitted. Quincy publishes no breaker size, recording instead that you should consult a certified electrician, because conductor sizing follows the length of your run and the code in force where you are. Verifying the floor, the clearances, the access route and the electrical supply is the customer responsibility.

Perfect For
- Low-ceilinged shops - basements, converted units, bays with overhead door tracks.
- Installations along a wall where a long, low machine uses space that is otherwise dead.
- Owners who service their own equipment and would rather reach the drain and sight glass standing up.
- Buildings already on 208 Volt 3-phase.
Not a home-garage purchase: three-phase power is not available in a house, and a horizontal machine wants a long clear run of floor.
What Is In The Box
A factory-assembled compressor - pressure-lubricated two-stage pump, motor, belt drive and guard on the horizontal receiver, with magnetic starter, spin-on oil filter and oil sight glass fitted. Warranty documentation is included.
Not supplied: electrical feed and disconnect, pipework beyond the 3/4 inch tank outlet, downstream filtration or drying, anti-vibration pads and first-service consumables. No aftercooler or air dryer is fitted to this model.
Certification, stated honestly
Quincy records an ASME tank with UL and CSA marks for this unit. Those attest to the machine as manufactured, and they are worth having on a pressure vessel.
They attest to nothing about your building. Your supply conductors, disconnect, protection and ventilation are judged by your electrician, and by an inspector where a permit applies. If an insurer, landlord or authority having jurisdiction asks for evidence, request the documentation from us before you order and we will obtain it from the manufacturer. Given the tank discrepancy noted above, this is a page where we would positively encourage you to ask.
Shipping and delivery
Freight to the lower 48 states, quoted live at checkout from the ZIP code you enter so the price matches your address rather than an average. A residential delivery carries a residential fee; a commercial address with a dock or a forklift is cheaper, and terminal pickup is cheaper again.
Unloading is yours to arrange. The truck reaches the kerb and no further, and 850 lbs on a long frame needs a forklift, a dock or a properly equipped terminal collection.
Inspect the machine before you sign for it. Check the crate, the tank shell, the pump and the motor, and note any damage on the bill of lading while the driver is present. A clean signed receipt makes a later claim very hard to win.
Warranty
A 1-year factory warranty applies. The Quincy warranty documentation supplied with the machine sets out the coverage and any registration requirement, and we can send it to you before you buy.
If a fault appears, open the claim before you open the machine. A pump, motor or starter that has already been apart is very hard to warrant, whatever the fault turned out to be. Call us first, keep the parts and photograph them.
