Quincy 5103D12VCA20M QP MAX: 10 HP, 120-Gallon Vertical, 208V Three-Phase

This machine stores 120 gallons of air on a floor tile 30" by 40". That is the reason to choose it. A horizontal receiver of the same capacity lies down and eats something closer to six and a half feet of wall. This one stands the tank up and puts the pump on top, so the storage volume you need occupies floor space you can afford. In a shop where every square foot is a bay, a bench or a walkway, the vertical layout is not a styling decision — it is often the difference between fitting a proper compressor and settling for a smaller one.

Mechanically it is a 10 HP, two-stage, cast-iron QP MAX package on a 120-gallon vertical receiver, wired for 208V three-phase power, rated to 175 PSI.

The trade you are making by going vertical

Vertical tanks buy floor space and spend ceiling height. This unit stands 75" tall, so measure before you commit: you need that height plus room above for the safety valve and for anyone who has to reach the top of the pump. Vertical machines are also less forgiving about the floor. A tall, top-heavy assembly wants a genuinely level slab and, in most installations, anchoring. If your floor slopes to a drain — which many shop floors do — take that into account when you pick the spot, and plan on shimming and anchoring rather than simply standing it in a corner.

The other consequence is drainage. Condensate collects in the bottom of the tank, and on a vertical receiver that bottom is at floor level rather than at a convenient height. Give yourself real access to the drain before you position the machine, because a drain you cannot reach is a drain that does not get used, and water sitting in a receiver is what eventually ends its life.

Will It Fit?

• Floor space. 30" wide by 40" deep. Add clearance to walk around it and to reach the drain and the oil fill.
• Height. 75" to the top of the unit. This is the dimension that catches people out — check it against low ceilings, mezzanine undersides, roller-door tracks and any ductwork or lighting above the intended spot.
• Weight. 850 lbs, concentrated on a small footprint, so slab condition matters more than it would for a horizontal machine.
• Power. 208V three-phase. Quincy lists the amp draw for this build at 32.2 A. No breaker size is published; the instruction is to consult a certified electrician, and that is the correct route because conductor length and local code decide the answer.
• Air connection. A 3/4" tank outlet.

Levelling, anchoring, the electrical feed, the disconnect and the connection into your shop main are the customer's responsibility, and the electrical work belongs to a licensed electrician working to your local code.

What the two-stage pump is doing

Air is compressed twice, with a high-efficiency fin-and-tube intercooler between the stages. Cooling the air before the second stage makes it denser and cheaper to compress, and keeps heat away from the valves. That is why the package is rated to 175 PSI rather than the lower ceiling a single-stage machine of similar size would carry. Cast-iron cylinders take the wear and damp the vibration; aluminum heads pull heat out where it concentrates. A mounted air-cooled aftercooler sits after the pump and drops the discharge temperature before the air reaches the tank, which knocks a good share of the moisture out at the machine rather than in your drops.

Certification, Honestly

Our record lists the receiver against the ASME pressure-vessel code and lists CSA among the unit's marks. Take that at its face value and no further: a pressure-vessel stamp certifies how the tank was built and tested, which is exactly what you want on a vessel that will hold 175 PSI for twenty years, but it is not a general statement about the assembly. Where an insurer, a fleet policy or a local authority specifies a particular listing for fixed shop equipment, check that requirement against the data plate before you buy. We would far rather answer that question in advance than have you fail an inspection over it.

Before You Order — Please Confirm

• How the pump is lubricated. Published details differ: the package name and feature list describe a fully pressure lubricated pump, while a specification field records the oil system as splash lubricated. Ask us and we will confirm it against the factory spec sheet.
• The automatic tank drain. Published details differ on whether an electronic automatic tank drain is fitted. Given how much a vertical receiver depends on being drained, confirm this with us if it is part of your plan rather than assuming it.
• Air delivery and pump speed. No CFM figure and no pump speed are published on this page. The values we hold for this specific build are not recorded against units of measure we can verify, and its siblings on other voltages are documented differently enough that we will not transfer their figures across. Shipping and Delivery

Freight only, to the lower 48 states, quoted live at checkout against your delivery address. At 850 lbs and standing over six feet on its pallet, this needs a forklift or a dock — or take terminal pickup and collect it from the carrier's depot yourself. Residential addresses carry a residential fee, which is included in the checkout quote. Inspect the machine before signing anything: look down the tank for dents, check the feet, the guards, the gauges and the cooler, and note every mark on the bill of lading while the driver is still there. Tall freight tips and rubs in transit more than flat freight does, so this inspection is worth the five minutes.

Warranty

A 1-year factory warranty applies, extending to a 3-year "No Bull" warranty on the terms Quincy publishes in its warranty handbook. The handbook governs and the extension is conditional, so read it before relying on the longer term.

House advice that has saved plenty of claims: if something fails, speak to us before the pump is opened. Once a unit has been stripped, a claim that would have been straightforward frequently becomes impossible.
