Slow speed, and what it is worth

A pump can be made to produce a given volume of air by being large and unhurried or small and frantic. The second is cheaper to build. It is also hotter, noisier, and harder on the parts that are expensive to replace — because heat is what drives oil out of grade and bakes carbon onto valve plates, and valve condition is what quietly decides when a compressor stops being efficient long before it stops running.

At 1,750 RPM this pump runs cool enough to be worth building in cast iron, and quiet enough that people can work near it without shouting. Combined with splash lubrication, an oversized oil reservoir and industrial-class bearings, that is the whole argument for a machine of this weight in a class where lighter, faster units exist.

The two stages, and the cooler between them

Air is compressed once, sent through a high-efficiency finned intercooler, and compressed again. That intercooling is not a refinement — it is the mechanism. Hot air resists compression, so cooling the charge mid-cycle is what lets the pump treat 175 PSI as an everyday working pressure rather than a limit it strains against, and it is what stops carbon accumulating in the head the way it does on a single-stage machine pushed hard.

Quincy publishes the output as 17.2 CFM at 175 PSI. Take the pair together and ignore any comparison that quotes flow without the pressure it was measured at — the two are meaningless apart. The pump also runs a low oil carryover, so very little oil mist leaves with the air, which matters if the line will ever feed finish work.

The duty rating is 100%. In practical terms that means you schedule the work, not the compressor: it is built to keep pumping rather than to be rested between runs.

Will it fit?

Standing upright, the machine takes about 37" by 24" of floor and stands 74" tall. That is the trade in a sentence — it asks for headroom and gives back floor, which is the right answer in a tight bay and the wrong one under a low mezzanine. Measure the height of the intended corner including shelving, ductwork and any door track above it, and leave reach room around the belt guard, sight glass and drain.

The slab matters more on a tall machine than a low one. 680 lbs standing high on four feet will find every irregularity in a floor, and a unit that rocks slowly loosens its own mounting and puts vibration through the building. A flat, solid, level pad is the buyer's responsibility and it repays the attention.

Plan the air line as a separate job. The outlet is 3/4", and there is no aftercooler or air dryer on this machine, so drying, filtration and regulation are items you add to the run.

Protection that arrives fitted

The magnetic starter is factory-mounted with thermal overload, so the contactor and the motor protection are not a separate purchase, a separate mounting job and a second electrician's visit. Low-oil shutdown stops the pump before a lubrication problem becomes a rebuild, and automatic condensate draining removes the most common cause of a destroyed receiver — nobody remembering to open a valve.

Two claims live in this product's data. The receiver is a coded pressure vessel built to the American standard and fitted with relief valves, and the electrical components carry UL and CSA recognition. Both are real and both are checkable.

Neither is a third-party safety listing of the finished machine as installed in your building. That is a different document from a vessel code stamp or a component recognition, and it is the one some insurers, fleet standards and local inspectors name specifically for fixed, hard-wired equipment. We would rather be clear about the distinction than let a stamp on the tank stand in for something broader. If your cover or your inspection turns on it, ask us before ordering.

Shipping and receiving

Palletised freight to the lower 48 states, quoted live at checkout against your own address rather than estimated from a table.

Arrange the unloading before you order. The driver brings the pallet to the tailgate and stops there, so a dock, a forklift, or a pallet jack on level ground needs to be waiting. Without any of those, choose terminal pickup and collect from the carrier's yard yourself. A home address is a residential delivery and carries a residential fee.

Then inspect before signing. Damage written onto the bill of lading with the driver present is claimable; damage found later on a clean signature usually is not. Photograph the pallet and note anything that looks wrong even if you are unsure it matters.

Warranty

A 1-Year factory warranty applies and extends to Quincy's 3-Year "No Bull" warranty.
