Quincy 453D80VCB20M QT MAX — 5 HP Two-Stage, 80 Gallon Vertical, 208V 3-Phase

This is the 208V build, and that number is the reason to read carefully before adding it to a basket. This machine is not sold as dual voltage, and 208V is not interchangeable with the other three-phase supplies in the range. A 208V service is what you typically find on a wye distribution in a commercial unit, a strip mall bay or a converted industrial building; the higher three-phase supplies are a different animal. Motors run unhappily on the wrong one — hotter, drawing more current, tripping overloads for no obvious reason — and the damage is rarely instant, which is what makes it expensive. Read the voltage stamped on your panel rather than the one you assume, and if it turns out to be something else we will move you onto the matching build at no drama.

Once the voltage is settled, what you have is a QT MAX: 5 HP, a splash lubricated cast iron two-stage pump delivering 17.2 CFM at 175 PSI, an 80 gallon vertical ASME tank, a factory magnetic starter and an air-cooled aftercooler.

Two disclosures before you order

The model code, and it matters here. The product title and the specification record say 453D80VCB20M. The description text and the page's own web address say 253D80VCB20M. Both codes carry the 20 that denotes the voltage, so the risk is not to the supply — but it is still a part number on a purchase order, and we will not invent the right one. Give us the code on your quote and we will confirm the build with the manufacturer.

The tank drain. The feature list says automatic tank drain. The detailed specification block agrees and records an electronic drain valve as fitted. A separate specification field in the same record says there is none. We cannot reconcile that from here, so ask us to confirm it in writing if an automatic drain is part of why you are buying. It usually should be: condensate left standing in a receiver is how tanks fail from the inside.

Will it fit?

A vertical receiver keeps the footprint down to 37" by 24", and asks for 74" of height in return, plus working room above for the pump and oil fill. The assembled weight is 680 lb. Think about the route as much as the destination — a doorway with a header, a step up into the shop, or a soft floor are all easier to solve before a pallet is sitting in the yard.

Supply is 208V 3-Phase through the fitted magnetic starter. Our record names no breaker size and instead says to consult a certified electrician, which is the honest answer: the correct device depends on the run, the ambient conditions and the rest of the board. Verifying ceiling height, access, floor loading and the incoming supply is the buyer's responsibility.

Why the aftercooler changes the air you actually get

Compressed air comes out of a pump hot and completely saturated. Every degree it loses on the way through your pipework, it drops water. That water is what corrodes lines, blows through a spray gun mid-panel and shortens the life of every air tool in the shop. The QT MAX puts an air-cooled aftercooler between the pump and the tank, so the air is brought most of the way back to ambient at the machine and the moisture condenses there, into the receiver, where a drain can get rid of it.

The knock-on effects are worth more than they sound. Your filters stop being permanently flooded. A refrigerated dryer, if you have one, spends its capacity on the last of the moisture rather than the bulk of it. And the air arriving at the tool is meaningfully drier, which for a blast cabinet or a plasma torch is the difference between working and clogging.

Slow, heavy and protected

The pump is cast iron with aluminium heads and a finned intercooler between the stages, and it is designed to turn slowly. Low rotational speed is the least glamorous specification on the sheet and the most consequential: less friction, less heat, less noise and a pump life rated at more than 50,000 hours. Two-piece connecting rods reduce the parts count, an oversized oil reservoir gives the oil time to cool and settle, and a low oil shutdown switch stops the machine before a low level becomes a seizure. The magnetic starter provides thermal overload protection for the motor.

Certification, stated plainly

What our data claims: an ASME receiver, and UL and CSA against the electrical side. The feature list also states the unit is built in the US. We will not add to that list. In particular there is no third-party safety listing in our records covering the finished machine as an assembly — component approvals are not the same certificate and do not cover the same things. If your insurer or a corporate purchasing standard requires one, ask before ordering and we will request it from the manufacturer.

Shipping and Delivery

This ships freight to the lower 48, at a rate quoted live at checkout for the address you give us. Arrange the unload in advance: a forklift or a dock is ideal, terminal collection is the usual fallback, and residential delivery attracts a residential fee. Nobody enjoys discovering the plan at the moment the tailgate drops.

Inspect the pallet before signing anything. Crating, tank shell, gauge glass, starter enclosure. Anything that looks wrong goes on the bill of lading in front of the driver — that note is what makes a claim work later.

Warranty

A 1 year factory warranty covers parts and labour. Buying the EWK-3 maintenance kit with the compressor and registering the unit promptly extends cover under Quincy's 3-Year "No Bull" programme, with on-site service. The extension has to be set up at the point of sale, so tell us while you are ordering rather than afterwards.

And the standing rule: open the claim before you open the machine. Stripping the pump to diagnose a fault will usually end the conversation before it starts.
