-Description
-Quincy 5103DS12VCA23 QP Pro - 10 HP, 120 Gallon Vertical, Two-Stage, 230V 3-Phase
Ask a compressor technician what actually breaks on a reciprocating machine and you will not hear about the motor or the tank. You will hear about valves. They open and shut every revolution for the working life of the pump, in hot air, and when one fatigues the machine quietly stops making its rated pressure long before anybody notices. This QP Pro is built with that in mind: stainless steel reed valves with valve bumpers, and graphite cylinder and head gaskets to hold the seal around them.
The rest is a 10 HP two-stage compressor on 230 Volt 3-phase power, with cast iron cylinders and aluminum heads on a 120 gallon vertical receiver rated to 175 PSI, and a fully pressure-lubricated bottom end fed by a Gerotor oil pump.
Valves, bumpers and gaskets - the unglamorous part
A reed valve is a thin flexing strip of steel. It has no bearings and nothing to adjust; it simply bends open under pressure and snaps shut again, tens of millions of times. Two things kill it. The first is fatigue at the point where it flexes. The second is impact - the reed slamming against its stop at the end of each stroke.
Stainless steel addresses the first, because it holds its spring temper in the hot, damp environment above a cylinder rather than losing it and going soft. The valve bumpers address the second: they cushion the reed at the end of its travel instead of letting steel hammer on steel. Neither is exotic engineering. Both are the difference between a pump that holds its rated output for years and one that gently fades.
The graphite cylinder and head gaskets belong to the same argument. Graphite tolerates the heat cycling of a compressor head far better than a conventional composite gasket, so the seal around the valve plate stays honest. A weeping head gasket does not usually announce itself; it just costs you pressure and puts the valves under more work.
Pressure lubrication underneath
Below the valve deck this machine is fully pressure lubricated. A Gerotor positive-displacement oil pump feeds the crankshaft, bearings and rods rather than relying on the crank splashing oil around the case, and because the oil is under pressure it can be passed through a spin-on filter - the same arrangement, and the same service routine, as a car engine.
An oil sight glass is fitted, so checking the level is a glance rather than a job. Between the filter, the sight glass and the belt-drive layout, this is a machine designed to be maintained by whoever is already in the shop.
Airflow: what we will and will not print
Our specification record holds a delivered-air figure for this pump, rated at 175 PSI, but it is stored as a bare number with no unit alongside it. We do not publish performance figures we cannot verify in our own data, so there is no airflow number on this page. Ask and we will confirm it in writing for this exact build before you order - which is what you want in any case if the sizing is close for your tool list.
Will it fit, and the electrical supply
Vertical tank, so the footprint is small and the height is not: roughly 40 inches by 30 inches on the floor, about 75 inches tall, 850 lbs. Check your ceiling and check every door, shutter and overhead track between the delivery truck and the spot where it will live. The floor wants to be level, solid and clean, with room all round for cooling air and for reaching the drain and the sight glass.
Verifying the floor, the clearances and the access route is the customer responsibility. It takes a tape measure and ten minutes, and it is the single most common thing skipped before a machine of this size arrives.
Power is 230 Volt 3-phase - the most common three-phase service in an independent shop, which is why this build sits alongside the lower- and higher-voltage versions of the same machine. A magnetic starter is fitted. Quincy publishes no breaker size and instructs you to consult a certified electrician, because the conductor sizing depends on the length of the run and on your local code.

Perfect For
- Shops running long, continuous air demand - sanding, blasting, or a paint booth - where valve life is what determines how long the machine holds its output.
- Buildings already on 230 Volt 3-phase, which covers most independent workshops with a three-phase service.
- Tight floor plans where a vertical receiver is the only way to get 120 gallons of storage into the room.
- Owners keeping equipment for a decade rather than replacing it every few years.
Not suited to a home garage or any single-phase supply. If your building has no three-phase power, this machine cannot be made to work on it and no adapter changes that.
What Is In The Box
The compressor is delivered factory assembled: two-stage pump with its stainless reed valves and graphite gaskets, motor, belt drive and guard, all mounted on the 120 gallon vertical tank, with the magnetic starter, spin-on oil filter and oil sight glass fitted. Warranty documentation travels with the unit.
Supply your own: electrical feed and disconnect, pipework downstream of the 3/4 inch tank outlet, filtration or drying if the application needs it, anti-vibration pads, and replacement oil and filter for the first service interval. There is no aftercooler or air dryer on this model.
Certification, stated honestly
The certification record for this compressor names an ASME tank plus UL and CSA marks. Read them for what they are: statements about the machine as manufactured, verified by the bodies concerned.
They say nothing at all about your building. Whether the supply, the disconnect, the protection and the ventilation around the machine satisfy code where you are is settled by a licensed electrician and, if a permit is involved, by the local inspector. Where an insurer or an authority having jurisdiction asks for compliance documentation, request it from us before you buy and we will obtain it from the manufacturer, rather than leaving you to discover a gap once the unit is installed.
Shipping and delivery
Freight to the lower 48 states. The cost is quoted live at checkout against the ZIP code you enter, so it reflects your actual address rather than an average. A residential delivery attracts a residential fee; a commercial address with a dock or forklift is cheaper, and terminal pickup cheaper still.
Plan the unload. Kerbside is as far as the driver goes, and 850 lbs is not a job for willing hands alone - have a forklift, a dock, or take terminal pickup and bring the right equipment.
Look the machine over before signing. Check the crate, the tank shell, the pump and the motor, and note any damage on the bill of lading with the driver present. Once a clean receipt is signed a freight claim becomes very hard to pursue.
Warranty
A 1-year factory warranty applies to this model. The Quincy warranty documentation supplied with the machine defines the coverage and any registration requirement; we can send it to you before you order if you want to read it first.
If something goes wrong, do not open the pump, the motor or the starter before raising the claim. A dismantled unit is very difficult to warrant no matter how clear the fault appeared. Contact us first, retain the parts and photograph what you found.
