-Description
-MAHLE MCX-2F Multi-Coolant Exchanger with Flush By-Pass and Pressure Test
The F in this model number stands for the capability the rest of the MCX family does not have: a flush by-pass. That is what makes this the version to buy if the cooling systems you see are not merely due for fresh fluid but are actually dirty.
The distinction matters more than it sounds. An exchange replaces fluid; a flush attacks what the fluid left behind — the scale, the silicate dropout and the rust that has settled in the block, heater core and radiator over a hundred thousand miles. Exchange a neglected system without flushing it and you simply put clean fluid on top of the deposits, where it starts degrading against the same contamination that killed the last lot. A by-pass loop lets the machine circulate through the system as a closed circuit to do that work.
And It Pressure Tests
The second half of the model's description is a built-in pressure test function. This is the tool that finds the reason the coolant was low in the first place. Pressurising a cooling system and watching for a drop is how a weeping heater core, a seeping water pump seal or a hairline crack in an expansion tank gets located — and doing it from the same cart, on the same job, means it is done rather than deferred to a diagnostic slot next week.
Sequencing the two is what makes the combination worth the money. Test first and you know whether the system will hold what you are about to put into it. Test again afterwards and the vehicle leaves with a documented result rather than an assumption — a ticket the customer understands, and a comeback that does not happen.
Two Fresh Tanks, Two Chemistries
The machine carries two new-coolant tanks of 7.5 gal (28 liter) each, plus a waste tank of 15 gal (57 liter). Two fresh tanks is about separation rather than volume. Conventional and extended-life coolants are not interchangeable and mixing them is a conversation nobody wants to have with a customer or a warranty department. Both tanks use drip-proof quick-disconnect connectors, both new and waste levels are visible from the front, and a float switch in the waste tank shuts the pump off automatically when the tank is empty rather than depending on somebody watching it.
How Fast, and How Complete
A diaphragm fill pump and an impeller drain pump each move 2 gal (7.9 liter) per minute. The specification sheet gives a process time of less than 3 minutes average for a full exchange, and a coolant exchange result of 92 to 98% in a single pass for most vehicles. The integrated Venturi vacuum generator is what earns that second figure: drawing the system down before filling means the incoming coolant is pushed into the block and heater core by atmospheric pressure rather than left to find its way past trapped air. Air pockets are the usual cause of a heater that blows cold or a temperature gauge that wanders after a service, and vacuum filling is how they are avoided rather than burped out afterwards.
Protecting the System You Are Servicing
A pressure switch set at 6 to 12 psi (0.4 to 0.8 bar) limits what the machine can put into a cooling system. Its entire purpose is to stop a service tool from damaging a radiator or an expansion tank by overpressurising it — a failure mode that turns a routine service into a parts bill and an awkward phone call.
Connections and Coverage
Service hoses are 3/8 in (9.5 mm), brass quick connect and disconnect, chrome sleeved and silicone sealed. Two sets of universal step adapters and a pair of universal adapter hoses cover the common radiator neck diameters — the exact ranges are in the table below — and the accessory kit adds an overflow tank wand with a shut-off valve plus assorted fittings and clamps. The intent is that the machine reaches most necks without anyone cutting a hose or improvising a fitting.
Will It Fit Your Shop?
- Power. Check this before anything else: the machine runs on a 12V DC supply at 15 Amp, not a standard wall outlet.
- Footprint. 45 in x 38 in x 22.5 in (114 cm x 97 cm x 57 cm). It parks against a wall between jobs rather than living on a bench.
- Temperature. Specified for 32° to 122°F (0° to 50°C), which is worth checking against an unheated bay in winter.
- Floor. Level. Full tanks make the cart considerably heavier than its empty weight, so it wants a proper parking spot rather than a sloped approach.
Confirming the 12V supply, the space and the working temperature is the buyer's responsibility — we are happy to talk it through, but only you can take those measurements.
One Number to Confirm Before You Plan the Bay
Published weights for this machine differ. MAHLE's marketing copy states approximately 170 pounds; the specification table states 121 lb (55 kg), and that table is shared with other models in the MCX family. If the exact weight matters to how you will unload, move or mount the machine, confirm it with us before you order — we will check it against MAHLE's current specification sheet.
Perfect For
- General repair shops that see neglected cooling systems and want to sell a flush rather than only an exchange.
- Cooling-system and radiator specialists who need testing and flushing on the same cart as the exchange.
- Used-car and trade workshops preparing vehicles of unknown service history.
- Fleet workshops where finding a leak at service time is cheaper than finding it at the roadside.

Certification and Approvals
We hold no third-party listing or approval mark for this machine in our data and we are not going to suggest one exists. Stating it plainly is better than leaving a silence: a specification sheet tells you how a machine is built and what it achieves, which is a different thing from an approval that an insurer, a fleet policy or a local jurisdiction may impose on workshop equipment. If a named listing is a condition of your cover or your site rules, send us the wording and we will get the manufacturer's documentation for you to check before you commit.
Shipping and Delivery
Ships by freight to the lower 48 states, with the rate quoted live at checkout for your address rather than printed here — freight pricing moves and a published number goes stale. The cart arrives on a pallet, so decide in advance how it comes off the truck: a forklift, enough people, or a collection from the carrier's terminal that you arrange yourself. A residential delivery address carries a residential fee, shown to you at checkout.
Inspect before you sign. Photograph anything crushed, cracked or leaking and write it onto the bill of lading while the driver is there. A clean signature is the carrier's proof that the machine arrived sound, and it makes a concealed-damage claim afterwards a much harder argument to win.
Warranty
The warranty listed for this machine is 1 year on parts and labor.
Raise any claim before you start dismantling. Opening a pump, a valve or the control panel ahead of an authorisation will normally end the claim regardless of how correct the diagnosis was. Call it in, take the instruction you are given, then work to it.
