Description
-MAHLE ACX2180 ArcticPRO® R134a Refrigerant Handling System
The ACX2180 is the fully automatic R134a station at the top of the ArcticPRO 2000 series, and the specification that earns it that place is easy to miss on a bullet list: it carries three pressure transducers rather than two. MAHLE states plainly what that buys — reduced process times compared with dual-sensor units.
Here is why a third sensor shortens a cycle. An automatic machine cannot simply run to a timer; it has to know when recovery has genuinely finished, when the vacuum has genuinely held, and when the charge has genuinely landed. With only two pressure references it must wait out conservative margins to be certain. A third reference lets the controller confirm the same conditions sooner, so the machine stops waiting and moves to the next stage. Over a full A/C season, in a bay running several jobs a day, that difference is bay time you get back.
Will It Fit Your Bay?
This is a rolling cart rather than an installed fixture, so the checks are floor, socket and ambient temperature.
- Footprint. 47" H x 29" W x 29" D (119 cm x 74 cm x 74 cm). Leave room at the front for the hinged service door to open.
- Weight. 215 lb. (98 kg), on casters. Flat swept concrete is what it wants.
- Power. A single ordinary outlet — 120 VAC - 60 HZ - 12 AMP. No three-phase, no transformer.
- Working reach. Hoses are 9 ft. (2.75 m), which decides how far from the vehicle you can park.
- Temperature. Rated to operate at 50° - 122°F (10°-50°C). An unheated bay in winter or an unconditioned shop in high summer can sit outside that band.
Verifying the outlet, the aisle and the working temperature of the bay is the buyer's responsibility. Ask us before ordering if any of it is borderline — we would rather talk it through than have a machine arrive somewhere it cannot run.
UV Dye Injection, Built In
Integrated UV dye injection is standard on this unit, and it changes the shape of a diagnosis. A slow leak in an A/C system is frequently invisible at the moment of service — the system holds a charge on the day and is flat again eight weeks later. Being able to inject dye as part of the same automated cycle, rather than as a separate manual step with a separate bottle and a separate coupler, means dye goes in every time it should instead of every time somebody remembers. The customer comes back, the technician runs a lamp over the engine bay, and the leak is a five-minute find rather than an hour of soap and nitrogen.
Oil Management, and the Two-Oil Detail
Recovered oil is weighed automatically so that replenishment matches what was actually taken out. On this model the injection system also accepts two oil types. That matters in a mixed workshop: PAG viscosities are not interchangeable between vehicle families, and a machine that holds only one forces either a compromise or a manual top-up outside the cycle. Two supplies on board means the right oil goes back into the right system without breaking the automation.
Getting this wrong is expensive and slow to show. A compressor run short of oil fails months later and presents as a component defect. A system given too much cools poorly and gets chased around the vehicle by somebody who was not there when it was serviced. Weighing what came out turns that judgement into a measurement.
Measured Performance
Charge performance is stated at +/- 0.5 oz. at 70° to 75°F (+/- 15g at 21° to 24°C); recovery at 95% at 70° to 75°F (21° to 24°C) within 30 minutes. Both are quoted at a defined bench temperature, which is the correct way to state them. Behind those numbers sit a 3/8 HP recovery compressor, a 2 CFM dual stage vacuum pump, a 30 lb. (13.6 kg) DOT charging cylinder and a spin-on filter-drier rated to 150 lb. (68kg) of throughput.
Running It, and Keeping It Running
The interface is a colour 7" capacitive touch screen with an LED status light visible from anywhere in the workshop, so a technician working elsewhere can see the cycle has ended without walking back. Software updates arrive wirelessly and permanently. MAHLE can connect over WiFi for troubleshooting and advanced support. Services are logged and monitored, which gives a shop refrigerant-use figures, proactive service reminders and warranty reporting straight off the machine, and network printing puts a record in the customer's hand. The iOS and Android phone app for remote session mirroring is standard on this model. A thermal printer and a refrigerant identifier are both listed as options.
Serviceability is handled by the hinged front door, so filter changes and routine maintenance do not begin with dragging the cart into the aisle and removing panels.
Perfect For
- Busy independent workshops where cycle time is the constraint and the machine is in use most of the day.
- Mixed fleets needing two oil types available without stepping outside the automatic cycle.
- Shops that sell leak diagnosis and want dye injected as part of every service rather than as an afterthought.
- Dealer service departments working to a documented charge specification.

One Thing to Be Clear About Before You Order
This is the standard ACX2180. Its own specification table records that the hybrid function is not fitted to this model and is available only on the ACX2180H. If you service hybrid or electric vehicles with electrically driven A/C compressors, that distinction is the whole decision — look at the H variant instead, and talk to us first if you are unsure which of the two your work actually requires.
Standards, Stated Honestly
The specification table lists the refrigerant-handling performance standards and the electrical-safety standard the unit is built to. Those are statements about the machine — how closely it charges, how much it recovers, how safely it is constructed. They are not an operating approval, and they say nothing about what your insurer, your fleet policy or your local jurisdiction may separately demand of refrigerant equipment or of the person using it. In the United States, refrigerant work additionally carries federal technician-certification obligations that exist independently of the machine's paperwork. If a named approval is a condition of your cover or your licence, get that requirement in writing and check it against the specification before ordering.
Shipping and Delivery
Ships by freight within the lower 48 states. The rate is quoted live at checkout for your delivery address, so the figure you see is a current carrier rate for your shipment. The unit travels palletised, which means you must be able to get it off the truck — a forklift, enough people, or a terminal pickup you arrange directly with the carrier. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, and the checkout will show it to you before you pay.
Look the pallet over before you sign for it. Photograph any damage, however minor it seems, and write it onto the bill of lading with the driver present. Signing clean is the carrier's evidence the machine arrived undamaged and it makes a later concealed-damage claim very hard to run.
Warranty and Support
MAHLE lists a two year standard warranty on this unit, with nationwide service centres and lifetime phone support coverage behind it. The design intent is that an owner can repair the machine rather than return it, which is worth real money over the life of a bay tool.
If a claim comes up, raise it before anything is taken apart. Opening the refrigerant circuit or removing a suspect part ahead of authorisation will normally end the claim regardless of how good the diagnosis was. Phone first, get the instruction, then act on it.
