XT150 Value Package 2: an 80 gallon tank, a through-roof flue kit, and the smallest cabinet in the XT range

Of the XT150 packages we list, this is the one whose record actually spells out the storage: a heater with an 80 gallon tank and a through-roof 6" chimney kit. That matters more than it sounds. A waste oil heater is only as practical as the tank feeding it — too small and you are decanting drums in February, too large and you have paid for capacity your shop will never fill.

The heater is the smallest cabinet in Lanair's XT line: 150,000 BTUH over a heating area of 3,500 sq. ft. at a fuel input of 1.07 GPH, burning used crankcase oil up to 50 wt, used synthetic oil, used automatic transmission fluid and #1 and #2 fuel oil.

Sizing it to your shop, not to the catalogue

Two figures on this page do the sizing work, and you should do the arithmetic yourself rather than take a rule of thumb.

Heat. 150,000 BTUH covering 3,500 sq. ft. is a bay-sized appliance, not a warehouse one. If your building is nearer 5,000 sq. ft., the larger XT200 exists for exactly that reason and shares this cabinet's footprint and electrical requirement — stepping up does not change your install.

Fuel. The tank holds 80 gallons and the burner consumes 1.07 GPH at full input. Divide one by the other and you have the running hours a full tank gives you; compare that against how much drain oil your shop actually generates in a month. A unit that outruns its own supply spends the cold half of the year on bought fuel, which still works — it will burn #1 and #2 fuel oil — but it changes the economics you bought it for.

Will It Fit?

  • Cabinet: 24" x 40.25" x 48", plus clear space in front for burner withdrawal and at the side for the collector box.
  • Hanging weight: 413 lbs, suspended from your structure. Whether your joists, purlins or beam take it is a question about your building; confirm it before delivery.
  • Tank: an 80 gallon tank needs a floor position, a fill route and, in most jurisdictions, containment. Local rules on storing used oil indoors vary and they are yours to check.
  • Electrical: 120 V at 20 amps.
  • Air: 2 CFM at 12-15 PSI to the burner.
  • Flue: 6" Class A, exiting from the top or the side of the cabinet.

All of the above is the buyer's responsibility to verify. We would much rather answer a measurement question this week than a return request next month.

The chimney kit, working from the roof down

This package is built around a roof penetration on a 16' eave. Taken in install order:

  1. The chimney cap tops the stack.
  2. A storm collar and roof flashing for pitches between 0/12 and 6/12 seal the penetration; a roof support bracket stops the stack moving in weather.
  3. Two insulated Class A sections, one 36" and one 24", carry the hot run through and above the roof.
  4. A finishing collar tidies the interior side of the penetration.
  5. Below that, four 24" lengths of black pipe, a black tee pipe with cap for cleaning access, a 14" slip connector to take up the odd distance, and a 90° elbow to turn the run out of the cabinet.

Check the flashing against your own roof pitch before ordering — anything steeper than 6/12 needs a different part — and check your eave height against the 16' the kit is cut for.

What the burner is actually doing

Used oil does not atomise the way diesel does, so the XT burner uses compressed air to break the fuel into a spray fine enough to burn cleanly. That is why the specification calls for a small, steady air supply rather than fuel pressure alone, and it is also why air quality matters: water or oil carried in from a neglected compressor ends up in the burner.

The combustion chamber is 12 gauge CRS — heavy cold-rolled steel where the flame sits. The cabinet is fine-grained galvanized steel for rust resistance, the fan is internal so the shop stays quieter, and the discharge louvers adjust and lock so you can aim the heat down a bay instead of at the ceiling.

Perfect For

  • Single- and two-bay repair shops in the 3,500 sq. ft. range with regular oil changes.
  • Tire, exhaust and general service operations losing heat through doors all day.
  • Small fleet and municipal garages already storing used oil for collection.
  • Farm shops with tractor and equipment fluid to dispose of.
  • Large private and collector garages with suitable structure overhead and a route to the roof.

On the safety listing

The copy carried on this product states that Lanair's units are UL listed. Take that for what it is: an appliance-level safety listing. It is not a building permit, and it is not your insurer's sign-off on burning used oil indoors — both of those are local, and both can come with conditions about the tank, the flue or the record-keeping. If a listing document is going to be asked for by an inspector or an underwriter, ask us to supply it in writing before the order goes in.

Shipping and Delivery

This is freight to the lower 48 states, priced live at checkout rather than fixed on the page. Plan two things in advance. Unloading is yours: a crated heater and tank need a forklift or a dock, or you can arrange to collect the shipment from the carrier's terminal instead. And delivery type matters — residential delivery is a distinct service with a fee attached, so say which one you need when you order. When it lands, inspect before you sign. Note every dent or tear on the bill of lading there and then, photograph it, and keep the crating. Once a clean receipt is signed, a damage claim becomes very hard to make stick.

Warranty

The manufacturer's warranty applies. We have not printed terms here because none are recorded against this listing and a rough summary would be worse than the real thing; our warranty claims page is where a claim starts. The one habit worth adopting now: do not take the unit apart before raising a claim. A dismantled burner or chamber generally ends the conversation, because the manufacturer wants the fault as it was found.
