Katool KT-WL70: two diameter ratings, and the smaller one is the honest one

Katool publishes two different diameter figures for this machine, and the gap between them is the whole buying decision. The maximum wheel diameter is 30 inches. The working limit diameter is 26 inches. The first is the size of wheel the machine will physically accept and rotate. The second is the size it is rated to actually work on when you are applying real corrective force. Most rim straightener listings quote only the larger number. Read the smaller one, because a wheel that falls between those two figures is exactly the wheel that will run into it.

The KT-WL70 is a hydraulically driven rim straightening machine for wheel repair shops, independent technicians and body shops taking alloy and steel wheel work in-house. It handles rim widths up to 21.6 inches, weighs 573.2 lbs (260 kg), and runs under 79 dB. It is a bench-height production machine rather than an occasional-use tool.

Will It Fit?

Nothing here concerns your ceiling. The constraints are the doorway, the floor and the supply, and every one of them is the buyer's to confirm before ordering, because we cannot see your building.

• Getting it in. At 573.2 lbs (260 kg) this is a two-person-and-a-pallet-truck machine at best. Katool lists the package size in the specification table on this page; two of its three dimensions are 19.5 inches and 55 inches, so measure your narrowest doorway and check the route from the delivery point before the truck arrives.
• Power, and this one needs a call. Katool lists the supply as 220V/380V. Those are two different installations, and only one of them is an ordinary North American shop circuit. Confirm with us which configuration ships to your address before an electrician quotes anything. We would rather answer that question in advance than have a machine on your floor you cannot switch on.
• Floor. Flat, solid and level, with the machine anchored or otherwise prevented from shifting. Straightening is a process of applying steady force against a wheel that is trying not to move; whatever the wheel does not absorb goes into the base and then into your slab.
• Working room. Allow clear floor for an operator to load, rotate and inspect a wheel from more than one side. A machine sized to its own footprint is one you cannot work around.
• Hydraulic oil. AW-46, or AW-32 for colder climates. Worth deciding at commissioning rather than after the first cold morning.

Why hydraulic force beats mechanical leverage on a bent rim

Straightening a wheel is not a single act. It is a sequence of small, deliberate corrections, each one checked before the next, and the risk in the whole job is overshooting. A mechanically levered press applies force in a way that is difficult to modulate near the end of its travel, which is exactly where a wheel is most likely to be taken past true or to have the damage moved somewhere else rather than removed.

The KT-WL70 drives its correction hydraulically and automatically, so the actuator can be advanced and retracted with steady, deliberate input. The practical result is that a technician can creep up on a correction rather than commit to it, and can back off the instant a gauge says enough. On an alloy wheel, where the difference between a repaired wheel and a scrapped one is measured in fractions of a turn, that control is the machine's real product.

Mass as a feature, not a shipping cost

573.2 lbs (260 kg) is a lot of machine for something that fits in a corner of a bay. That mass is doing work. A straightener that flexes or shifts under load reports its own movement as wheel movement, and the technician corrects for a deflection that was never in the rim. Katool builds the KT-WL70 around a rigid frame with reinforced base and support columns so the wheel stays located through a full rotation and successive measurements are comparable to each other.

Hydraulic oil, gauges and any wheel-specific tooling are not described as included.

One point of honesty about the copy this page replaces. The previous description said the KT-WL70 often includes a lathe or turning component for finishing a wheel face after straightening. That word often is doing a great deal of work, and we cannot confirm the claim from anything Katool publishes here. It is not repeated on this page. The KT-WL70 travels by freight truck to addresses in the lower 48 states. Freight is quoted live at checkout against your address, so what you see is a current carrier rate rather than an estimate that has aged. Unloading is the receiver's job: at this weight you need a forklift, a dock, or a machine and a plan. If none of those exists where the machine is going, collecting from the carrier's local terminal is usually easier and the terminal has the equipment already.
