Katool KT-T900 Center Post Tire Changer Machine

Nothing on this machine pries against the rim

The KT-T900 uses a leverless mounting head in stainless steel, with a plastic protective cover over the part that meets the wheel. That is the specification to read first, because it describes the single most expensive failure mode in tire work. A conventional changer needs a bar levered against the rim flange to get a bead over it, and a bar against a painted or polished alloy rim eventually leaves a mark. A marked rim on a customer's car is not a small problem: it is a comeback, a refinish, and a conversation you lose.

A leverless head does the same job by holding and guiding rather than prying, and the stainless construction with a cover over the contact face means the part that gets close to the wheel is not bare steel. Combined with a turntable that turns at a deliberate 6.8 RPM rather than as fast as it can, the whole design is arranged around not damaging the thing it is working on.

Will It Fit?

There is no ceiling or concrete requirement for a tire changer. The questions are air, power, floor and the route in, and all of them are the buyer's to confirm before ordering.

  • Compressed air. The published air pressure runs to 145 PSI. This machine expects shop air. If you do not have a compressor, budget for one alongside the changer rather than afterwards.
  • Power, and this one needs a call before an electrician quotes. The specification table on this listing gives 110V, single phase, 60 Hz. A product data field on the same listing says 220V. Those are two different installations and we are not going to guess which one ships to you. Ask us and we will confirm against the machine. It is a short phone call and a great deal cheaper than the wrong circuit.
  • Floor. Flat and solid, with clear space on the sides the operator works from. A centre-post machine is worked around, not stood in front of.
  • Getting it in. 414 lbs (188 kg) net. Measure your narrowest doorway and check the route from the delivery point before the truck arrives.
  • Your responsibility. Building, floor, air, electrical supply and unloading are the buyer's to arrange.

Two assist mechanisms, and the fatigue they remove

The built-in top assist arm exists for run-flat and low-profile construction. Those sidewalls are stiff by design and they resist being pushed down into the drop centre, which is exactly what has to happen before a bead will come over the rim. Without an assist arm that fight is done with a technician's body weight and a certain amount of hope. With one it is a controlled hold while the table does the work.

Separately, a wheel lift assistant device raises the assembly into position on the machine. That is the moment in the whole job where a technician is most likely to hurt themselves, because a mounted truck or SUV wheel is heavy, awkward and has nothing convenient to grip. Removing that one lift from every wheel that comes through the shop is worth more over a year than any measurable increase in cycle speed.

Force comes from an all-hydraulic power system rather than pneumatics or leverage: a 2.0 HP gearbox motor turning the table, with a separate 1.5 HP hydraulic circuit. Two motors doing two jobs means rotation does not slow down while the hydraulics are loaded, which on a stubborn bead is precisely when it would otherwise happen.

The parts Katool bothered to specify, and why that is a signal

Two entries in this machine's feature list are unusual for the category, and both are about longevity rather than performance.

The first is the motor winding. Katool specifies pure copper windings, on the argument that copper dissipates heat better and tolerates a duty cycle that a cheaper winding does not. A tire changer in a busy shop is not a machine that runs occasionally; it starts and stops hundreds of times a day, and starting current is where motors die. It is a component-level claim that a buyer can actually check.

The second is a high-quality filter in the hydraulic circuit. Contamination is what kills hydraulic systems, not pressure. Grit that gets into the oil scores valve bodies and cylinder walls slowly and invisibly until something stops holding pressure, and by then the damage is distributed through the whole system. A manufacturer that calls out filtration in its own feature list is telling you where it expects the machine's service life to come from.

Working envelope

Wheels up to 47 inches (1,200 mm) in diameter, widths up to 16 inches (406 mm), and clamping from 12 inches to 30 inches. In practical terms that covers passenger cars, light trucks and most SUV and van work comfortably, with headroom for the occasional oversized wheel rather than a machine permanently working at its limit.

Perfect For

  • Shops doing alloy and specialty wheel work, where the cost of one marked rim exceeds the difference between machines.
  • Tire retailers handling run-flats and low-profile fitments daily, which is the work that punishes a basic changer.
  • General repair shops bringing tire work in-house rather than sending customers elsewhere for it.

What is in the Box

Katool's own feature list describes the machine as including the all-hydraulic power system, the leverless stainless mounting head with its plastic protective cover, the built-in top assist arm, the wheel lift assistant device, the copper-wound motor and the hydraulic filter. There is no published itemised packing list beyond that and we are not going to invent one. Hydraulic oil, a compressor, wheel weights and valve tooling are not described as included. Ask us before ordering if you need any of them commissioned on day one.

Certification, stated plainly

The material we hold on this machine does not claim an independent third-party safety listing from a recognised testing body, and we are not going to imply one with a badge. That distinction is worth stating rather than leaving buried: a manufacturer's own declaration that equipment conforms to a standard is a different document from an independent body testing it and listing it, even when both end up as a mark on a plate. Certain commercial insurance policies, certain fleet and municipal maintenance contracts and certain local jurisdictions require the second kind specifically. If any of that governs your shop, get the requirement in writing from your insurer or your inspector first, then ask us for whatever documentation ships with this machine and we will send it as it stands rather than describe it.

Shipping and delivery

This machine ships by freight truck to addresses in the lower 48 states, with freight quoted live at checkout against your address so the number you see is a current carrier rate rather than an aged estimate. At 414 lbs crated, unloading is the receiver's responsibility: a forklift, a loading dock, or a machine and a plan. If none of those is realistic where the machine is going, collecting from the carrier's local terminal is usually easier and the terminal has the equipment already. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when you select that option.

Inspect the crate before you sign anything. Walk it, look for crushed corners, punctures, shifted banding and any sign of oil, and write whatever you find on the bill of lading while the driver is still standing there. Photograph it. A clean signature is the carrier's evidence that the machine arrived undamaged, and arguing against that afterwards is very difficult.

Warranty

Katool covers this machine with a one-year warranty on all product parts and publishes the full warranty document separately. One warning applies to every hydraulic machine regardless of who built it: if something fails, do not open the power unit, a cylinder or a valve block before a claim is raised. A disassembled component is normally treated as a modified one, which is the fastest way to lose coverage that would otherwise have been honoured. Photograph the fault, note the serial number, and call first.
