Description

You can set how far the bead breaker travels

The Corghi A9830 is an electric swing-arm rim-clamp tire changer for passenger and light-truck work. The feature we would put first is small, mechanical and almost never mentioned in a listing: the lateral bead breaker has a screw that sets the end of stroke of the pallet.

That screw decides how far the blade is allowed to travel inward. On a machine without it, the bead breaker's stroke is whatever the factory set, and on a narrow wheel that can mean the blade continues past the bead and into the rim — which is where bead-breaker damage comes from, not from the force itself. Dialling the end of stroke to suit the wheels you actually handle turns the most damage-prone operation on a tire changer into a repeatable one — an adjustment a technician sets once and relies on for years.

The 26" turntable, and an honest word about what it does not have

The A9830 uses a 26" turntable with an external socket, and the wheel support surface is protected by a plastic pad so the rim face is not resting on bare metal.

Here is the part a manufacturer's brochure tends to skip, and we would rather say it plainly: this turntable is wider than the range it replaces, but it does not have an adjustable support. It follows the pattern of Corghi's classic tire changer range. If you have used a machine with an adjustable wheel support and expect to find one here, you will not. Whether that matters depends on your work: for a consistent spread of passenger and light-truck wheels it is a non-issue, and for unusual offsets it is worth a conversation first.

The turntable is heavy-duty stainless steel, rotates in either direction, and runs on a two-speed drive. Turntable torque is published at 958.83 ft/lbs. Tire changing is a low-speed, high-torque job: what moves a stubborn bead is sustained twist, and a fast table under a stiff sidewall is harder to control and easier to mark a rim with. Two speeds let the operator take an easy tire quickly and a difficult one carefully.

Swing arm, and what it means for where you put it

The upper arm assembly swings out of the way rather than tilting backwards. For siting, that is the whole difference: a swing-arm machine can live close to a wall behind it but needs clear floor to one side to swing into. Work out which of those your bay has before you choose between this and a tilt-back layout.

Published dimensions are 38.5"–55" × 49" × 79", and the machine weighs 540 lbs. Note the first figure is given as a range rather than a single width, so treat the larger number as the one to plan around and leave clearance beyond it for the arm's travel.

Power is 115V, single phase (1ph), 60Hz — an ordinary shop circuit. This machine is offered with an electric motor only, so a bay relying on compressed air alone is not a fit. It still needs shop air for the pneumatic functions and the table inflator.

Siting, the floor, the electrical circuit and the air feed are the customer's responsibility. Measure your own bay against the figures above and confirm your supply before ordering; we will happily review a floor plan with you, but the measurements need to come from your side.

Bead breaking, inflating and holding

The bead-breaker blade is shaped to follow the bead into the inside rim contour rather than pushing flat against the sidewall, so the force is delivered where the bead actually sits. The specification table also publishes a figure of 2756 lbs against the bead breaker — it appears in a row labelled as a type rather than a force, so if bead-breaker force is decisive in your comparison, ask us to have it confirmed rather than reading it off the table.

Inflation is built into the table with jets in the jaws, which seats a stubborn bead with a controlled burst through the clamping jaws instead of a hand-held inflator and a ratchet strap. A bead-pressing lever is included for holding a bead down during mounting — the accessory that makes a stiff sidewall a one-person job. A locking handle secures the head away from the rim while the table turns, and the cylinders are rebuildable stainless steel, so a leaking cylinder is a seal kit rather than a replacement part and a week of downtime.

Clamping and capacity

  • Rim clamping, internal — 13" to 28" (up to 711 mm). The everyday mode for most modern wheels.
  • Rim clamping, external — 10" to 26" (up to 660 mm), for rims that cannot be gripped from inside the flange.
  • Maximum tire diameter — 47" (1194 mm), the whole assembly.
  • Maximum tire width — 14" (356 mm).

Check the clamping ranges against your own wheel population before you look at the headline diameter. Clamping is what decides whether a wheel can be held at all; diameter only decides whether it fits once it is held.

Perfect for

  • Tire stores and independent shops running steady passenger and light-truck volume.
  • Bays with a wall behind and open floor to the side — the layout the swing arm suits.
  • Shops that value serviceability: rebuildable stainless cylinders and a mechanically adjustable bead breaker are the parts you maintain rather than replace.
  • Workshops with reliable power — this is an electric-drive machine with no air-motor option.

A wide range of optional accessories is available on request, allowing different machine configurations. None is included by default — tell us what you need and we will quote it with the machine.

What's in the box

From the manufacturer's current feature list for this model: the machine with its electric motor and two-speed turntable, the swing-arm upper assembly, the heavy-duty stainless steel turntable with its protective pad and external socket, the adjustable lateral bead breaker, the built-in table inflator with jets in the jaws, the locking handle, the bead-pressing lever and the rebuildable stainless steel cylinders. The optional accessory range is not included. Cones, flanges and adaptor kits are not itemised in the data we hold, so ask us to confirm what ships in the crate before ordering.

Certification and compliance, stated honestly

We do not publish an independent North American safety listing for this tire changer, and we are not going to imply one with vague compliance language. If an insurer, a corporate policy, a local jurisdiction or a customer contract requires your shop equipment to carry a named third-party listing or to meet a specific standard, resolve that before you order rather than after the machine is bolted down. Send us the exact wording of the requirement and we will ask the manufacturer for documentation in writing — and tell you plainly if it cannot be produced.

Shipping and delivery

The A9830 ships by freight within the contiguous United States, with the freight cost quoted live at checkout against your delivery address rather than estimated in this description.

You need to be able to unload it, or to collect from the carrier's terminal instead. A crate at this weight is not coming off the truck by hand, so arrange a forklift of adequate capacity or a terminal pickup in advance. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee.

Inspect the crate before you sign. Look for fork punctures, crushed corners, cut banding and any sign the load has shifted in transit; photograph anything doubtful and write it onto the bill of lading while the driver is still on site. After a clean signature, a damage claim becomes a difficult argument to win.

Warranty

The machine carries the manufacturer's warranty. We have not printed a term length here rather than let a transcribed number go quietly out of date — the current process is on our warranty claims page, and we will confirm the coverage applying to your order in writing before you buy if you ask.

Do not dismantle the machine before making a claim. Stripping the swing-arm assembly, the pneumatic circuit or the drive to find the fault yourself is the most dependable route to a refused claim. Contact us with the serial number and a description of the symptom and let us open the claim properly.

Get in touch to confirm the bead-breaker figure, to price the optional accessory configurations, or to check the swing clearance against your bay.
