Champion LVR05PURHS-8 7.5 HP Rotary Vane Air Compressor, 80 Gallon Horizontal

The useful thing about this model is where it sits in the range. It reaches a working pressure of 150 PSI on a 7.5 HP motor, which means a shop can have real pressure headroom without stepping its electrical supply up to the next motor size. For a lot of buildings that is the difference between an install that happens and an install that needs a service upgrade first.

Mechanically it is a Champion rotary vane compressor with a cast iron airend, driven directly by a TEFC motor turning at 1760 RPM, mounted on an 80 gallon horizontal receiver. No belts, no pulsation, 3 ppm oil carryover, and high temperature safety shutdown protection as standard.

Why pressure headroom is worth paying for

Most air tools are rated at the tool inlet, not at the tank. Between the two sit a regulator, a filter, fifty or a hundred feet of pipe, a hose reel and a couple of couplers, and every one of those costs you pressure. A compressor that only just makes the number on the tool's data plate makes it at the tank, not at the gun, and the symptom is an impact wrench that will shift five wheel nuts and stall on the sixth.

Working to 150 PSI leaves margin for all of that. It also lets the receiver store more air for the same physical volume, because stored energy in a tank is a function of pressure as well as size, so the pump runs less often for the same work. Regulate down at the point of use to whatever each tool actually wants; the headroom is there for the pipework to eat.

Direct drive: the maintenance that is not on the schedule

A vane airend is driven straight off the motor. There is no belt to tension at commissioning, no belt to re-tension after bedding in, no belt to glaze, no belt to snap on a Friday, and no drive alignment to lose. On a shop's planned maintenance sheet, that is several recurring line items that simply do not exist on this machine.

The airend itself is a rotor turning in a cast iron housing with the vanes riding out against the bore. Delivery is continuous rather than pulsed, so there is no reciprocating hammer transmitting into the floor and no pulsation for downstream equipment to deal with. Turning slowly, at 1760 RPM, does the rest: less noise, less wear, and a machine you can put in an occupied building without an argument. The airend ships factory filled with CS300 vane diester lubricant, which is the fluid the 3 ppm carryover figure was established with, so it is worth using rather than substituting.

Will it fit, and what does it need?

The package is about 66 inches long and weighs roughly 550 lbs. Horizontal layout means it wants wall length rather than headroom, which suits a shop with a spare run of wall and a low ceiling. Do not shove it hard against that wall, though: the TEFC motor cools by moving air across its frame and the airend sheds heat too, so leave it room to breathe.

The receiver has a 1/2 inch outlet, so size your shop main and any adaptor accordingly. Oil capacity is 1 gallon, which means a drain pan, the right fluid on the shelf and somewhere to put the used oil. The floor should be solid and level; a 550 lb machine on an uneven slab works its own feet loose over time.

Settle the power question before you order. Published figures for the supply differ: the product description gives 208-230/460 Volt 3 phase, while a separate specification field lists single phase, 230 V class. Those are different machines and different building supplies. Ask us to confirm the phase and voltage of the exact build, and have your electrician confirm what the building actually provides, before the order goes in. A phase mismatch is a return freight shipment, not a site adjustment.

Air delivery, overall width and overall height are not listed on this page. Those values sit in our record either without a unit or in a form we cannot safely reproduce, and an invented CFM figure is exactly the kind of number a buyer sizes a whole system around. Ask and we will read them from the factory data sheet.

Perfect for

  • Shops with a constrained electrical supply that still need pressure at the tool rather than at the tank.
  • Long pipe runs and hose reels, where line loss between tank and gun is the real problem.
  • Body shops and finishing rooms that care about oil carryover as much as about volume.
  • Low-ceilinged premises with wall length to spare, where a horizontal tank is simply easier to place.

Certification, stated plainly

There is no third-party safety listing and no pressure vessel stamp recorded against this compressor in our product data. That statement is about our records, not about the machine, and we would rather say it than let a badge appear on the page that we cannot stand behind. If an insurer, a local inspector or a workplace safety audit needs a specific listing or stamp on the receiver, tell us which one and we will confirm it against the factory paperwork before you order.

Shipping and delivery

Freight only, within the contiguous United States. At about 550 lbs on a pallet no parcel carrier will touch it, and freight is quoted live at checkout for your address rather than averaged across the country.

You unload it. Arrange a forklift with capacity above the shipping weight, or choose terminal pickup and collect with your own equipment. A residential delivery address carries a residential fee, shown in the checkout quote before you pay. Check the pallet over before the driver leaves: bent feet, a damaged fan cover, torn wrap or fluid on the deck all go on the bill of lading in writing, with photographs. Signing clean is treated as agreeing that it arrived perfect.

Warranty and support

Warranty terms and the claim route are on our warranty claims page. Leave the machine assembled until a claim is open: an airend or a starter panel that has already been apart is the commonest reason a good claim is refused. Report it, get it documented, take instruction. To settle the phase question, get the withheld figures, or compare this against the vertical-tank version for your floor plan, call, text or chat with us on 866-774-7743.
