CEMB K22 Motorcycle Wheel Balancer

The defining idea in this machine is a shaft that does not turn. The wheel is supported on a fixed shaft and spun on its own bearings by a drive roller, which means the bearings stay in the wheel, no cones or clamps are needed to centre it, and the assembly is balanced rotating on exactly the axis it will rotate on when it goes back on the motorcycle. Everything a motorcycle shop dislikes about balancing on a car machine follows from those three facts.

Why the Bearings Stay In

Balancing a motorcycle wheel on a conventional balancer usually starts with pressing the bearings and spacers out so the wheel can go onto a rotating shaft, and ends with pressing them back in. That is time on a job that should be quick, it is a chance to damage a bearing seat, and it introduces a subtler problem: the wheel is now centred by whatever adaptor is on the balancer rather than by its own bearings, so what you balance is not quite what you bolt back onto the bike.

A non-rotating shaft removes all three at once. The wheel sits on its own bearings, the balancer turns it from the outside with a drive roller, and setup is a matter of dropping the wheel on rather than dismantling it — with no bulky tire clamps to store, fit or misplace. Where motorcycle work is a share of the day rather than all of it, the setup time saved per wheel is what adds up.

The Drive Roller Does a Second Job

Because the wheel is driven from its circumference, the operator can watch it turn under the roller and check eccentricity while balancing it — useful diagnostic information arriving for free. A wheel that is out of round, or a tire not seated evenly on the rim, produces a vibration no counterweight will cure, and that usually ends with weight after weight added and the customer still complaining. Seeing the run-out on the machine reframes the conversation before the weights go on.

What It Will Take

Bearing-type wheels are handled as standard. Scooter wheels are supported with a hand spin, and single-sided swing-arm wheels — the ones a car balancer simply cannot mount — need the optional AGF adaptor set, ordered separately. It also takes the super-wide rear wheels typical of large cruisers, which is where a machine built around car fitments runs out of rim width.

Data entry is a 2D automatic gauge capturing distance and diameter, so dimensions are measured rather than typed. The machine self-diagnoses and self-calibrates: calibration drift on a machine nobody checks is invisible until a run of comebacks makes it visible.

Programs, Thresholds and Units

Static and dynamic programs are both provided, which matters more on motorcycle wheels than on car wheels — a narrow front is often a static problem, while a wide rear genuinely needs two planes. An optimization program compensates for rim and tire unbalance by indexing one against the other, cancelling part of it mechanically before any weight is added.

Menus switch between ounces and grams and between inches and millimetres, and set the unbalance threshold at 0.1 or 0.25 ounces (1 or 5 g). That is a workflow decision rather than a spec: the tighter setting chases every last fraction on a machine whose stated accuracy is under 1 g, the looser one stops it asking for weights the rider will never feel. A 12-compartment weight tray plus a separate adaptors compartment keeps consumables at the machine.

Will It Fit, and What Does It Need?

Power is 110 VAC — a standard single-phase outlet, no three-phase supply and no compressed air. Balancing speed is under 80 rpm and average cycle time is 4–6 seconds. The shaft is 40 mm.

It takes rim diameters of 10″–30″ and rim widths of 1.5″–20″, with a maximum wheel weight of 66 lbs (30 kg) — read that limit against your heaviest cruiser rear before ordering. Operating temperature is rated at 32–113 °F, which is worth checking against an unheated workshop in a cold climate. The machine ships in a crate measuring L58″ x W43″ x H59″ at a gross shipping weight of 240 lbs, so measure your doorway as well as your floor space, and leave clear working room in front of the machine for a wheel to be lifted on and off. Verifying the outlet, the access route and the floor area is the buyer's responsibility.

One thing we will not state, because our own data is not consistent about it: a maximum overall tire diameter. One of our spec fields gives 30″ as a maximum tire diameter, but 30″ is the figure the specification table gives as the maximum rim diameter, and those cannot both be right. We treat 30″ as the rim figure and leave the tire figure blank rather than publish a number we cannot support. If a specific outsize tire is the reason you are buying, ask us and we will confirm it with CEMB first.

Perfect For

  • Motorcycle dealerships and independent bike shops that balance wheels daily and want the bearings left alone.
  • Tire shops adding motorcycle work to an existing car operation, where a car balancer cannot mount single-sided swing arms at all.
  • Custom and cruiser specialists running super-wide rear wheels.

What's in the Box

The machine comes with the non-rotating balancer shaft and drive roller, the 2D automatic distance and diameter data entry, self-diagnosis and self-calibration, the static and dynamic programs, the optimization program, the unit and threshold menus, and the 12-compartment weight tray with its adaptors compartment. The AGF adaptor set for single-sided swing-arm wheels is an option and is not included — order it with the machine if you service those bikes, because discovering it is missing on the day is an avoidable annoyance.

Certification, Stated Plainly

Our data for this balancer does not record an independent third-party safety or conformity assessment, and we are not going to imply one from the brand or from the fact that the machine is self-calibrating. Self-calibration is the machine checking itself; an assessment is an outside body checking it, and the two are not substitutes.

If you need documented evidence of independent assessment for an insurer, a franchise standard or a local inspector, send us the exact requirement before you order and we will put it to CEMB.

Shipping and Delivery

Freight to the lower 48 states, priced live at checkout against the ZIP code you enter — the current rate for your address.

The crate is a large one — L58″ x W43″ x H59″, 240 lbs gross — and the two things worth planning are getting it off the truck and getting it through the building. Unloading is the receiver's responsibility, not the driver's; a forklift or a dock settles it, and terminal pickup is the answer if you have neither. Then check the crate against your doorways and any turn in a corridor before delivery day, because a machine that cannot get into the workshop is a problem nobody enjoys solving on a loading bay. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee, added at checkout when selected.

Inspect before signing. Photograph any crushing, puncture or shift on the pallet and describe it on the bill of lading in plain words — a clean signature says the shipment arrived undamaged, and it is difficult to retract. Call, text or chat with us if anything looks wrong.

Warranty

The manufacturer's warranty applies. Its term and covered components are deliberately not restated here: the document supplied with the machine governs, and a paraphrase goes stale and then gets argued over. Ask us for the current one before you buy.

The standing warning: do not dismantle a suspect part before a claim is open. Once an assembly has been taken apart it can no longer be inspected for the cause of failure, and manufacturers decline claims on that ground as a matter of course. Photograph the fault, note what the machine was doing, and call us first.
