Bludee AC400Di — a dual-gas machine that checks first

Here is the awkward truth about dual-refrigerant machines: the feature that makes them worth buying is also what puts them most at risk. A machine that handles two gases is, by definition, the machine in your shop most likely to meet the wrong one.

The AC400Di closes that gap. It recovers, recycles, evacuates and recharges both R134A and R1234YF from one cabinet, and it carries a built-in R1234YF identifier that samples the system before recovery begins. The pairing is the product: dual capability with the check that dual capability makes necessary.

Why the identifier belongs on this machine in particular

A single-gas machine has one exposure — a vehicle that should be on its refrigerant but is not. A dual machine works both sides of the changeover, sees older and newer vehicles in the same week, and is the unit a technician reaches for when the label under the bonnet is missing or unconvincing. It sees more unknowns, and it has more to lose from them.

What it has to lose is worth spelling out. A cross-contaminated storage cylinder is not a bad afternoon; it is the machine out of service. The contents have to be handled as mixed gas rather than reclaimed, the filter and possibly more needs attention, and every system you serviced since the contamination arrived becomes a question you cannot answer without going back to the customer. An automatic check that runs before every recovery removes an entire class of that risk without asking a technician to remember anything.

One cabinet instead of two

The other half of the argument is space and money. Covering both refrigerants normally means two machines, two cylinders, two service schedules and two footprints in a bay that had no spare footprint. This machine does both jobs, and it moves between the two refrigerants as part of normal work — which is the only version of "dual" that is worth anything.

If your split is genuine — older vehicles paying the bills, newer ones arriving steadily — that is a straightforward calculation, and it usually favours one capable cabinet over two cheaper ones.

The automation, and why each step is there

Every automated step corresponds to an interruption removed. Automatic internal tank refill means a low cylinder does not halt a service. Automatic air purge keeps non-condensable gas out of the storage tank, which matters because that contamination is invisible, degrades charge accuracy and only ever announces itself as a customer coming back. Automatic oil drain and new-oil injection show how much lubricant actually left the system, so the replacement is measured instead of estimated. Automatic vacuum reaches level in whatever condition the system is in, and a vacuum leak test exposes gross leaks before an expensive charge is committed.

On top of that: onboard electronic scales, a built-in thermal printer for the customer record, and a comprehensive A/C capacity database covering passenger vehicles. Run it in full automatic and it recovers, recycles, evacuates and recharges from one instruction; run it manually when a job needs judgment.

Space, power and the delivery crate

Supply is 110V at 60 Hz from an ordinary single-phase outlet, so there is no electrical work to plan. The shipping crate is about 28" x 26" x 47" (710 x 660 x 1,190 mm) at 269 lbs gross — measure your doorway, and plan the unload rather than improvising it. The machine itself is smaller once uncrated, at 610 x 595 x 1,075 mm.

Give it a permanent position with clear frontal access to the couplers and the printer. Preparing a suitable, ventilated space with an adequate supply is the owner's responsibility.

Confirm the recovery figure with us first

The manufacturer's overview text for the AC400Di states 95% recovery efficiency for standard and hybrid vehicles. The specification table on this same page states 99% to medium vacuum. Both figures are Bludee's own, and both appear here as supplied, attributed to where they were published. If recovery performance is what your decision or your compliance turns on, ask us and we will obtain a written answer from Bludee before you order.

Perfect For

  • General repair shops taking in unknown vehicles, where nobody can vouch for what a previous owner or a previous shop put in the system.
  • Workshops mid-transition needing both refrigerants covered without surrendering a second bay position.
  • Used vehicle preparation, where every car has a history somebody else wrote.
  • Single-machine operations, for whom one contaminated cylinder means no A/C work at all until it is sorted out.

What's in the box

The AC400Di with its built-in identifier, onboard electronic scales, built-in thermal printer and vehicle capacity database. Refrigerants, oils and dyes are consumables and are not supplied with the machine. Bludee itemises nothing beyond that, so nothing more is claimed here — ask us to confirm a specific hose set, coupler or adapter before you order if it forms part of your decision.

Certification and compliance, stated honestly

There is no independent performance listing for this machine in the information we hold, and this page does not imply one. It is a fair thing to want on a unit whose identifier is a measuring function and whose circuit handles two refrigerants — a manufacturer's own specification is not the same as an assessment by somebody with no stake in the sale. If a warranty programme, an insurer or a local requirement obliges you to run assessed equipment, establish that before you buy. Ask and we will put the question to Bludee and forward their answer exactly as it arrives.

Delivery and pickup

Crated freight to the lower 48 states, or warehouse pickup if you would rather collect. The freight charge is calculated live for your address during checkout instead of being estimated on this page, and a residential delivery carries a residential fee. The practical issue at 269 lbs gross is getting it off the truck: with no dock and no forklift, terminal pickup is usually easier than arranging equipment. Tell us in advance either way. Check the crate over before signing and record any damage on the bill of lading with the driver present — without that note, a claim has almost nothing to stand on.

Warranty

The terms and how to claim are on our warranty claims page, and we will send you the manufacturer's current document before purchase if it bears on your decision. If a fault develops, contact us before the machine is opened up. There is a sealed refrigerant circuit, calibrated load cells and a pressure vessel inside; a unit dismantled before it has been assessed cannot then be assessed, and disassembly ends the warranty.
