Description
-BelAire 6312H4: the Iron Series pump wound for 460V plant power
If your building already runs 460V three-phase service, this is the version of the Iron Series you want. The 6312H4 is the same 10 HP two-stage cast-iron machine as its lower-voltage sibling, ordered from the factory with a 460V motor and magnetic starter so it lands on your existing distribution instead of forcing a transformer, a buck-boost or a dedicated service into the project. Higher voltage also means lower current for the same work, which in practice means smaller conductors on a long run from the panel to wherever the compressor ends up living.
That is the entire reason this model number exists, and it is worth being blunt about: if your shop is not on 460V, order the other one. A motor cannot be talked into a supply it was not wound for.
What the pump does
Airflow is 35 CFM measured at 100 PSI and 32 CFM at 175 PSI. Those two figures together tell you more than either alone: the gap between them is small, which is the sign of a pump that is not straining at the top of its range. Two-stage compression is why. Air passes through the first cylinder, gets cooled, then goes through the second, so the work of reaching 175 PSI is split rather than forced through one hot stroke.
The cylinders are solid cast iron, belt driven and splash lubricated, with an oil sight glass on the reservoir. Rod bearings and wrist pins are the automotive type rather than plain bushings. An aftercooler on the discharge side pulls heat out of the air before it enters the tank, which is where a useful amount of the moisture drops out. For spray work or anything with air-driven electronics downstream, BelAire recommends adding the CPXHT50 dryer; it is not supplied with the compressor.
Siting, power and the customer's side of the job
The tank is horizontal, so this machine is long and low: 73 in. from end to end, 24 in. across and 49 in. to the top, with a listed weight of 830 lb. It will slide under a mezzanine or against a wall in a building with no vertical room to spare. Give yourself access at the pump end for belt and oil service, and think about how a pallet of that weight travels from the delivery point to the spot you have chosen — that part is nearly always harder than people expect.
On the electrical side, BelAire publishes no amp draw and no breaker size for this unit; the data sheet says to consult a certified electrician, so that is what this page says too. A licensed electrician should verify your 3-Phase supply, size the conductors and the disconnect, and confirm rotation before the machine is started. Building service, permits and inspection are the customer's responsibility, as is a level floor capable of carrying the load.
Living with it
Control is by a start/stop pressure switch, so the compressor manages its own cycling once it is commissioned. The belt guard is fully enclosed and high-flow — closed enough to keep hands and sleeves out, open enough not to trap heat around the flywheel. The tank drain is manual: a valve you open, not a timer you trust. Draining condensate regularly costs nothing and takes a minute, and it is what decides whether the tank lasts a decade or rusts from the inside.
Perfect for
- Industrial buildings and plants already distributing 460V three-phase, where matching the service is the whole point.
- Large workshops running several air tools at once and needing steady flow rather than short bursts.
- Production and assembly areas where an aftercooler and drier air protect the tooling downstream.
- Buildings with height restrictions, where a horizontal tank is the only sensible layout.
What is included
Delivered assembled and ready to be wired: two-stage cast-iron pump, 10 HP 460V three-phase motor, magnetic starter, horizontal ASME tank with safety valve and manual drain, pressure gauge, start/stop pressure switch, aftercooler and enclosed belt guard. No air dryer and no CPXHT50 are included; both are separate.

Confirm the tank capacity before you order
| Title, spec record and description | 120 gallon horizontal ASME tank |
|---|---|
| A manufacturer feature line in the same listing | ASME tank and safety valve, worded as an 80 gallon air reserve |
| Before you order | Ask us to put the tank capacity in writing |
Published figures for the tank capacity differ, so both readings are set out above beside the source that states each one. The 80 gallon wording is identical to the line BelAire uses on its 80 gallon models, which makes it look like sheet text that travelled — but a compressor's air reserve is not something to buy on a guess. If the tank capacity decides your purchase, confirm it with us in writing before you commit and we will get it from the manufacturer.
Certification, stated plainly
The tank and its safety valve carry an ASME rating, which is a pressure-vessel standard covering the vessel that holds the air. It is not a statement about the electrical assembly, and this product's data does not claim a third-party North American electrical safety listing for the machine as a whole. That distinction matters more on a 460V unit than on a small one, because the people most likely to ask for such a listing are exactly the industrial insurers and plant safety officers who buy 460V equipment. If that is your situation, ask us for the documentation that ships with the unit and get the answer in writing before you order.
Shipping and delivery
Shipped by freight carrier to the lower 48 states, palletised. You are responsible for getting 830 lb off the truck: dock, forklift, or a pallet jack with a hard level surface all the way. Where none of those exist, collecting from the freight terminal is usually cheaper and easier, and we will arrange it with you. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, quoted alongside your shipping at checkout.
Inspect on arrival, before you sign. Look over the tank, the motor terminal box, the gauge and the guard, and write down anything that looks wrong on the delivery paperwork while the driver is present. Once you have signed a clean receipt, a freight claim becomes very difficult to pursue.
Warranty
The listed cover is a 2 Year factory warranty, consumer and commercial, with nothing extra to buy. Treat the warranty document supplied with the machine as the authority — read it on arrival rather than at the point of failure. Also, please do not open up the pump, the motor or the starter enclosure before a claim has been raised. Stripping a component before it has been inspected is the fastest way to lose a claim that would otherwise have been paid.
