Description
-BelAire 418VLE Elite Iron: a Baldor motor turning a pump at 900 RPM
Two things on this machine are worth knowing before anything else. The motor is a Baldor — a named industrial motor rather than an unbranded one, which is the part of a compressor most likely to decide whether you are still running it in a decade. And the solid cast-iron pump turns at 900 RPM, which is slow. Slow is the whole design: less piston speed, less friction, less heat, less noise and less wear per hour of running.
Fast pumps make their rated airflow on paper and pay for it in service life. The 418VLE takes the other route — bigger, heavier, slower — which is why it sits in BelAire's Elite Iron Series rather than in the value range.
What it delivers
The pump produces 23 CFM at 100 PSI and 21 CFM at 175 PSI, which is its maximum working pressure. The narrow gap between those two figures is the useful detail: it means the compressor is still doing real work at the top of its range rather than falling off a cliff above 100 PSI. In a shop that translates to tools that keep their rated performance instead of slowing down as the tank pressure drops.
It is a two-stage pump with finned coolers between stages, automotive-style rod bearings and wrist pins for lower oil carryover, and space-saving concentric valves that keep delivery volume up without a bulky head. The motor is protected by a thermal overload switch and started through a magnetic starter with under-voltage and overload protection, so a power failure drops the contactor rather than restarting the machine under load.
Will it fit, and will it run?
The tank is vertical, so the machine takes up a footprint of about 37 in. by 24 in. and stands 72 in. tall. Six feet of height clears most shop doorways, but measure yours, and measure the swing of any overhead door track that passes over the spot you have chosen.
Electrically it is a 1-Phase machine on 230V, and this listing states a 60 Amp breaker. That is a serious single-phase circuit; BelAire's own spec record does not print an amp draw and refers you to a certified electrician, which is exactly what we would tell you anyway. Have a licensed electrician confirm the available service, size the conductors, fit the disconnect and verify the connection before the machine is started. Supply capacity, permits and inspection are the customer's responsibility, as is a level floor able to carry the machine with a full tank.
Confirm the shipping weight before you plan the unload
| Stated by this listing | Approximately 610 lb |
|---|---|
| Stated by the product's spec record | A lower figure, roughly thirty pounds under the listing weight |
| Why it matters | It decides how you unload it and what you move it with, and it can affect freight |
| Before you order | Ask us to confirm the shipping weight in writing |
The difference is not large, but it is real, so both published readings are set out above with the source of each. If you are planning the unload around a specific forklift, hoist or pallet jack, confirm the shipping weight with us in writing before you order.
Fitted as standard, not as options
This is a fully packaged unit, and the list is the point: aftercooler, automatic tank drain, magnetic starter, pressure switch and low oil level switch all come with it. On many competing compressors at least two of those are line items you discover later.
The aftercooler cools compressed air and pulls moisture out of the stream before it reaches your pipework, which protects tools and finishes downstream. The Elite Series tank drain is pressurised and automatic — no timer, nothing electronic — so condensate is expelled without anyone remembering to do it, and routine draining is what keeps air clean and a tank alive. The low oil level switch shuts the compressor down before a splash-lubricated pump can run itself dry, which is the failure that ends pumps. The recommended lubricant is 30W non-detergent oil, and the sight glass makes the level check trivial.
The tank is an 80 gallon ASME vessel with safety valves and a pressure gauge showing regulated pressure, and every unit is 100% factory tested before it leaves the plant.
Perfect for
- Commercial shops on single-phase power that want industrial-grade components rather than a homeowner machine scaled up.
- Long-duty-cycle work — sandblasting, sanding, sustained spray — where a slow-turning pump earns its price back in service life.
- Buyers who care what is inside, and who recognise a named motor as a real specification.
- Shops where floor space is the constraint and the tank has to stand up.
What is included

Certification, stated plainly
The tank and its safety valves are ASME rated, and each machine is factory tested at full pressure before shipping. ASME governs the pressure vessel: it is the right standard for the part holding compressed air, and it is not a listing of the motor, starter or wiring. BelAire's published data for the 418VLE does not claim a third-party North American electrical safety listing, and we are not going to let the ASME rating stand in for one. If your insurer, your corporate safety policy or your local inspector requires listed shop equipment, ask us what documentation ships with the compressor and get it confirmed in writing before you order.
Shipping and delivery
This unit ships by freight to the lower 48 states, upright on a pallet. Unloading is the customer's responsibility — a dock, a forklift, or a pallet jack with hard level ground from the truck to the door. If you cannot do any of those, terminal pickup with a trailer is usually the better plan and we will arrange it with you. Residential delivery addresses carry a residential fee, quoted with your shipping at checkout.
Inspect before you sign. Walk the pallet, check the tank, the cooler, the belt guard, the gauge and the motor, and write any damage onto the delivery receipt while the driver is there. Once a clear receipt is signed, a freight damage claim becomes extremely difficult to pursue.
Warranty
Cover is a 2 Year bumper-to-bumper factory warranty with no additional purchase required. The warranty document that ships with the machine is the controlling text — read it on arrival, not at the point of failure. And whatever happens, do not disassemble the pump, the motor or the electrical enclosure before a claim has been opened. A component taken apart before inspection is the easiest claim in the world for a manufacturer to refuse.
