Description
-Atlas TC289DAA: Two Assist Arms, Because Run-Flats Do Not Care How Strong You Are
The TC289DAA is the extra-large-turntable Atlas rim-clamp changer supplied with the DAA-SA dual assist arm package. That package is the reason to choose this version, and it is worth spelling out what it actually consists of rather than leaving it as three letters on a spec line.
There are two arms, and they do different jobs. The left-hand arm carries a pressing block and a pressing/lifting disk. The right-hand arm carries a pressing/lifting disk and a bead roller. Between them they hold a stiff sidewall down and away from the mount/demount head while the table turns — which is the single moment where low-profile and run-flat tires either come off cleanly or take a rim's finish with them.
Who Actually Needs Assist Arms
If your work is ordinary passenger tires on ordinary rims, a bare swing-arm machine and a tire lever will do the job all day. The calculation changes when a real share of the wheels coming in are run-flat or short-sidewall aftermarket fitments. Those tires resist being pushed into the drop centre, and a single technician working alone has two hands and needs three. The assist arms are that third hand: they apply and hold pressure at a fixed point, repeatably, without the operator leaning on the tire and hoping.
The practical result is less time per wheel, fewer marked rims, and — over a shift — noticeably less physical wear on whoever is running the machine. It is a labor argument as much as a capability one.
The Machine Underneath
The turntable is the extra-large Atlas table, with more clearance than the standard version and jaws that move to three separate mounting positions. It clamps externally across a range that starts at 11 7/8" and reaches 28", and internally out to 29 7/8". Maximum tire diameter is 47" and the bead breaker will take a wheel up to 18" wide.
The jaws and bead breaker are air-operated. The turntable is electric, driven by a 1 HP motor delivering 885 ft/lbs of rotating torque, and the bead breaker applies 5,500 lb of force against an adjustable plate — the plate adjusts to the wheel rather than the operator working around a fixed one. A Beadblaster is built into the machine: on a tire that will not seat, it releases a volume of air directly into the tire well instead of trying to push more pressure through the valve.
The mount/demount head is metal, and can run either a metal roller or replaceable plastic inserts. Multiple spare inserts are supplied, which tells you something honest about how these wear — they are consumables and Atlas treats them as such.
Will It Fit, and What Does It Need?
- Air. This machine does not include a compressor. It needs an external supply at 90-110 PSI and must not exceed 140 PSI. A filter, regulator and lubricator are included.
- Power. 110volt. Ordinary single-phase shop power.
- Floor space. Plan the clear area around the turntable for a 47" tire plus two assist arms swinging in, not just for the machine's own footprint.
- Assembly. The TC289DAA requires some assembly after purchase. It does not arrive ready to switch on, so allow time and a second pair of hands for setup.
- Receiving. 920 lbs. Forklift, loading dock or terminal pickup — decide before the truck is dispatched.
Perfect For
- General automotive service departments handling a broad mix of vehicles.
- Medium-sized tire stores where volume makes seconds per wheel add up.
- Farm and rural operations dealing with large-diameter and awkward tires.
- Any shop seeing regular run-flat work, which is where the assist arms stop being a luxury.
What Is in the Crate
The dual assist arms, a column-mounted inflator box with gauge, a filter/regulator/lubricator, a 20" tire tool, a lube bucket with brush, a set of large plastic jaw covers, a plastic cover for the bead breaker shovel, and multiple replacement plastic inserts for the mount/demount head. Motorcycle and ATV adapters exist for this machine and are sold separately — they are not part of this listing. An external air supply is required and is not supplied.

Certification, Honestly
The product data we hold for this machine claims no third-party safety listing, and we are not going to imply one it does not have. That is not a warning about the machine; it is a statement about paperwork. If your insurer, a franchise agreement or a local authority requires shop equipment that carries a recognized independent listing, establish the exact requirement in writing before you order, because that is a question about your policy and your jurisdiction rather than about this model.
Shipping and Delivery
Freight only, lower 48 states. At 920 lbs you must be able to take it off the trailer — a forklift, a loading dock, or collection from the carrier's terminal, which is frequently the simplest route for a shop with neither. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, quoted live at checkout because freight rates move. Inspect the crate before signing and record any damage on the bill of lading while the driver is present; an unqualified signature makes a claim very hard to pursue afterwards.
Warranty
Atlas covers this machine for 1 year, parts only. Parts are supplied under the warranty; labor is not. Replacement parts and wear items for the TC289 line are stocked, which matters more than the headline term on a machine with consumable inserts and covers. If something fails inside the term, contact us before dismantling the assembly — a unit already taken apart is the most common reason a straightforward claim becomes a dispute.
