-Atlas TC289 with the WB41 Balancer: The Money Went Into the Changer
This package pairs the full-size TC289 rim-clamp changer with the WB41, the simpler of the Atlas computer-controlled spin balancers. That is a deliberate split rather than a compromise, and it is worth understanding before you choose between this and a package built around a more automated balancer.
What the WB41 gives up is convenience: wheel dimensions are entered by hand rather than measured by the machine. What it does not give up is the measurement itself. Balancing accuracy on this unit is 1 gram with weight position resolved to 1.4 degrees — the same standard of reading you would expect from a more automated head. If your bay does perhaps a dozen wheels a day rather than a hundred, hand entry costs seconds per wheel and saves considerably more than that on the purchase.
Will It Fit Your Shop?
- Electrical. Both machines are 110volt, single phase. Nothing exotic to install.
- Air. The changer is pneumatically operated and needs an external supply at 90-110 PSI, with an absolute ceiling of 140 PSI. Filter, regulator and oiler are included in the crate; the compressor is not.
- Floor and access. Allow room to swing the changer arm clear of the column and to handle a tire up to 47" in diameter around the table. The balancer stands on the floor and needs clear space in front for the hood.
- Delivery. The changer ships at 620 lbs, the balancer at 400 lbs. Arrange unloading before the truck is booked.
What the Changer Does Well
The TC289's turntable is the largest in the range and that is the point of it. Jaws set to three mounting positions clamp externally from 11 7/8" to 28" and internally as far as 29 7/8", which keeps big truck and SUV wheels in the middle of the machine's range instead of at the limit of it. Maximum tire diameter is 47".
Breaking the bead is where a cheap machine shows itself. Here the breaker applies 5,500 lb against an adjustable plate, so the plate is set to the sidewall rather than the sidewall being levered onto a fixed plate. The table turns on a 1 HP motor delivering 885 ft/lbs, and a Beadblaster is built into the machine for the tires that refuse to seat — it releases a burst of air into the tire well rather than pushing more pressure through the valve stem, which is what actually gets a stubborn bead to jump.
What the WB41 Does, and What It Does Not
The WB41 is a computer-controlled spin balancer with a raised, easy-to-read display and a large wheel weight tray — two ergonomics decisions that matter far more across a shift than they do in a specification list. It offers static and dynamic modes, a rapid optimization routine for cancelling imbalance by repositioning the tire on the rim, self diagnosis and self calibration, and readouts in grams or ounces and in millimetres or inches.
It takes rims from 10" to 32" in diameter and 1 1/2" to 20" in width on a 40mm shaft, up to a 150 lbs maximum wheel weight, spinning at 150 RPM on a 1/4 HP motor. All dimensions are entered manually. Be clear-eyed about that: it is a real difference in daily use, and it is exactly the difference the price reflects.
Perfect For
- Farms and homeowners maintaining their own vehicles and equipment.
- General repair shops where tires are part of the work rather than all of it.
- Shops that handle large wheels and would rather spend the budget on turntable capacity than on automated data entry.
- Second bays and satellite locations that need capable equipment without duplicating a flagship setup.
What Ships With It

A Note on Setting Up
Two practical points that are easy to overlook when a pair of machines arrives together. First, the air line: run it to the changer with a drop leg or a dryer if your compressor is at all damp, because water carried into the jaws and the bead breaker is the most common cause of an air-operated machine getting sticky in its first year. The supplied filter and regulator handle the rest. Second, position the balancer where the operator can reach both it and the changer without crossing a walkway — the wheel goes from one to the other and back several times per vehicle, and a badly placed pair of machines costs more steps per day than any specification on this page.
Certification
Both units are CE approved, which is a declaration by the manufacturer of conformity with European directives. It is a different thing from a North American third-party product safety listing, and it is not a substitute for one. If a policy, a lease or a local inspector requires a recognized third-party listing on shop equipment, establish that requirement in writing before ordering.
Delivery
Freight only, lower 48. You will need a forklift, a loading dock or a terminal pickup to receive just over half a ton across two crates. Residential addresses carry a residential fee, quoted live at checkout. Inspect both crates before you sign and record any damage on the bill of lading in the driver's presence — that note is the entire basis of a freight claim.
Warranty
Atlas covers both machines for 1 year, parts only — parts supplied, labor not included. Raise a claim with us before dismantling anything; a unit opened up before the claim is filed is the usual reason a covered part stops being covered.
