Description
-Hofmann GEODYNA 7400L Wheel Balancer with LCD Monitor
The 19" LCD monitor on the GEODYNA 7400L does something most balancer screens do not: it plays step-by-step video instructions for the job in front of the operator. For a shop that trains its own people, that screen is a training aid bolted to the machine, and it is the reason this model earns its place over a display that only shows numbers.
Around the monitor sits a fast, semi-automatic balancer for tire shops and general repair bays — non-contact rim width acquisition, a laser that shows exactly where the weight goes, and a clamping arrangement that keeps the whole thing simple to live with.
The screen is the feature
Balancer errors are rarely mechanical. They are a rim width typed in wrong, a weight mode chosen for the wrong wheel type, or a tape weight placed by eye at the wrong point on the barrel. A large monitor showing the operation as a sequence of pictures, with large digits for the weight amount and bright indicators for weight position, closes the gap between the technician who has run one of these for ten years and the one who started on Monday. On the 7400L that screen is 19" across.
smartSonar: the rim width nobody has to type
smartSonar reads rim width without touching the rim, and the measurement cycle starts as soon as the wheel guard is fully lowered. Two things follow. First, the width that the calculation uses is the width the machine measured, not the width someone estimated from the sidewall. Second, the operator’s hands never have to return to a keypad between lowering the guard and reading the result — the cycle is one continuous movement.
easyWEIGHT, and why placement beats precision
A balancer that computes a perfect corrective weight and leaves the technician to guess its position has solved half the problem. easyWEIGHT projects a pinpoint laser onto the exact spot where the weight belongs. On a modern alloy with a deep barrel and a narrow ledge that is the difference between a wheel that is right first time and a wheel that comes back off the shaft — and on a customer-facing job, it is also the difference between a tape weight sitting where nobody sees it and one sitting where everybody does.
Clamping and data entry
The 7400L clamps with a quick nut, using the included cones or an optional stud-hold flange accessory. It is a deliberately quick, low-ceremony arrangement, and worth contrasting honestly with the power-clamp models in the same family: a quick nut asks the operator for consistency, an electromechanical clamp supplies it. For most shops the quick nut is entirely adequate; for a very high-volume tire bay with several technicians sharing one machine, it is a real difference worth weighing.
Data entry for rim diameter and offset is semi-automatic, with smartSonar handling width, so the routine settles into: clamp, pull the gauge arm, lower the guard, place the weight where the laser says.
The measuring numbers
Measuring speed is under 200 rpm, angular resolution is ±0.35°, and balancing accuracy is published as 0.035 (1 g). The shaft is 40 mm in diameter and 225 mm long. A check spin is listed at 4.5 seconds. Power is 230 VAC, single phase, 50/60 Hz.
Will it fit your bay?
This is the compact one. The cabinet is 51" x 34" x 50" and the machine weighs 253 lbs, so a 50" overall height means it sits under most shelving and does not dominate a small bay the way a full-height column does. Allow clearance for the wheel guard to rise and for a technician to work at the shaft from the front.
The 230 VAC single-phase supply is the item to check first — it is not a standard convenience outlet, and running a dedicated circuit is a cost that belongs in your budget rather than a surprise on installation day. Confirming supply, access and floor space before ordering is the buyer’s responsibility; send us the numbers if you want a second opinion.

Perfect For
- Shops that train their own technicians — the on-screen video instruction is the reason to choose this model.
- General repair bays adding wheel balancing to a mixed workload, where the machine will be used by whoever is free.
- Smaller premises, given a 50" overall height and a 51" x 34" footprint.
- Alloy-wheel work, where laser weight placement is a cosmetic as much as a technical advantage.
What comes with it
The current product copy is specific on one point: clamping is done with the included cones, and the stud-hold flange is an optional accessory rather than part of the standard kit. The EZ-Collets mobile app is also available — it helps a technician find and compare the right collet, flange or quick plate for a given vehicle and returns tire and rim information for it, and it is free to download from the Apple and Google stores with an email activation.
Beyond the cones, our data does not itemise the crate contents. Rather than publish a list we cannot stand behind, we will confirm it for you on request.
Certification, stated plainly
No third-party safety listing is recorded in our product data for this balancer, and we are not going to suggest otherwise. If your insurer or an inspection regime requires shop equipment to carry an independent testing laboratory listing, settle that before you order — ask us and we will put the question to the manufacturer and send you what comes back.
Delivery and inspection
Shipping is freight, to the contiguous United States. Hofmann machines have their own delivery, set-up and instruction arrangement, described in the Pick Up and Delivery section further down this page; it is worth reading before you plan the day.
When the truck arrives, inspect before you sign. Look at the pallet, the cabinet corners and the monitor housing, and note anything you find on the bill of lading there and then. A damage note takes a moment and keeps the claim alive; a clean signature closes it.
Warranty
Warranty claims are handled through our warranty claims page. Please do not disassemble the machine to investigate a fault before a claim is open — photograph the problem, keep the packaging if transit damage is a possibility, and talk to us first. A stripped unit is the most common reason a manufacturer declines to cover one.
