Hofmann GEODYNA 7340P High Volume Wheel Balancer

Every other GEODYNA balancer we stock clamps the wheel with a quick nut that an operator tightens by hand. The 7340P does not. Its specification sheet reads Power clamp — an electromechanical chuck that draws the wheel against the flange with a constant, repeatable force on every single wheel, whoever is running the machine. That one line is the argument for this balancer over its cheaper siblings, and it is worth understanding before you compare price tags.

This is a high-volume wheel balancer built for independent tire shops, multi-bay repair shops and dealership service departments — the kind of bay where the same rack of wheels comes through every morning and a second attempt at a balance is lost money rather than a minor annoyance.

Why the power clamp changes the day

Hand clamping introduces a variable that has nothing to do with the machine: how hard the last technician pulled the nut. Clamp a wheel slightly off-square or slightly loose and the balancer faithfully measures an imbalance the wheel does not actually have. The weight goes on, the wheel comes off the cones, and the road force is still there — so the wheel goes back on the shaft and the process starts again. Hofmann calls that chasing weight, and the patented power clamp exists to stop it: constant force, applied electromechanically, so the clamp is the same on the first wheel of the morning and the last one before close.

Reading the wheel: sonar, laser and gauge arm

Three of the 7340P’s named systems each remove a manual entry step, and each removes a place where a typo becomes a bad balance.

Smart Sonar acquires rim width without touching the rim. Hofmann states a 30% saving across a complete process compared with measuring and entering the width by hand — that is the manufacturer’s figure, quoted as they publish it. easyALU works the other side of the job: touch the rim with the gauge arm and the machine takes the rim dimensions and selects the correct weight-balancing mode itself, rather than asking the operator to pick a mode from a menu. easyWEIGHT then closes the loop with a pinpoint laser that marks exactly where the weight goes, which matters most on alloy rims where a tape weight a few degrees out of position is a weight that has to come off again.

The measuring numbers, and what they describe

The 7340P spins at a measuring speed of under 200 rpm and resolves weight position to an angular resolution of ±0.35°. Balancing accuracy is published as 0.035 (1 g). The shaft is 40 mm in diameter and 225 mm long. With QuickBAL running, a check spin completes in less than 4.5 seconds, which Hofmann describes as a 30% reduction in cycle time at unchanged accuracy.

Those four figures are worth reading together rather than separately: a low measuring speed with a tight angular resolution is what lets a short cycle stay trustworthy, because the machine is not trading precision for spin-up time.

Two operators, one machine

The 7340P holds rim dimensions for two operators at once and lets either recall their own set-up. In a two-lane tire bay this is not a luxury feature; it is the difference between a shared balancer and a balancer that one technician effectively owns because re-entering the last job’s numbers is quicker than working around them.

Will it fit your bay?

The unit measures 54" x 34.5" x 72" and weighs 253 lbs, so plan for the wheel guard’s swing above and behind it as well as the footprint on the floor. Power is 230 VAC, single phase, 50/60 Hz — not a standard shop outlet in most buildings, so budget for an electrician and a dedicated circuit if one is not already run to that corner.

Confirming the electrical supply, the door and aisle clearance to get a 253 lbs machine into position, and the floor space around it is the buyer’s responsibility. Measure before you order. If you are not certain, send us your bay dimensions and supply voltage and we will tell you honestly whether this machine suits the space.

One inconsistency you should know about: our own product fields list the overall length as 35" while the specification table on this page gives 34.5". It is half an inch, but if you are planning the bay to the inch, ask us and we will confirm the figure with Hofmann rather than guess for you.

Perfect For

  • Independent tire shops running volume, where clamping consistency between technicians is what protects the cycle time.
  • Multi-bay repair shops that balance as part of a larger job and cannot afford a second spin.
  • Dealership service departments working on customer alloy wheels where weight placement is a cosmetic issue as much as a mechanical one.
  • Two-technician bays, thanks to the multiple-user set-up recall.

What comes with it

The EZ-Collets app is part of the package rather than the crate: it is a mobile app that helps a technician pick the right collet, flange or quick plate for a given vehicle, and it also returns tire and rim information for that vehicle. It is free to download from the Apple and Google stores and requires an email activation.

What we will not do is publish a packing list we cannot verify. Our product data for this machine does not itemise the cone and flange set supplied with it, so if a specific mounting accessory is decisive for your work, ask us and we will confirm what ships in the crate before you order.

Certification, stated plainly

Our product data for this balancer does not record a third-party safety listing, and we are not going to imply one it does not carry. If your insurer, a fleet contract or a local inspection regime asks you to show that shop equipment is listed by an independent testing laboratory, treat that as a question to settle before purchase, not after: contact us and we will ask the manufacturer for whatever compliance documentation exists in writing.

Delivery, and what to do when the truck arrives

This is a freight shipment to the contiguous United States. Delivery terms for Hofmann machines, including set-up and instruction, are set out in the Pick Up and Delivery section further down this page — read it, because it differs from how most equipment on our site ships.

Whoever signs for the crate should inspect it before signing. Walk around the pallet, look for crushed corners, punctures and shifted banding, and write any damage you find on the bill of lading at the moment of delivery. A signature on a clean bill of lading is very hard to argue with afterwards; a noted exception costs you two minutes and preserves the claim.

Warranty

Warranty terms for this machine are handled through our warranty claims page, which is also linked from the product data on this listing. One practical warning that applies to every piece of powered equipment we sell: do not disassemble a machine before a claim is opened. Photograph the fault, keep the packaging if the damage looks like it happened in transit, and call us first — a unit that has been taken apart is usually a unit the manufacturer will decline to cover.
