Triumph NTC-950-2 and NTB-800: the pair where both machines take a step out of the job

There are six ways to combine a Triumph changer with a Triumph balancer, and this is the one at the top. What puts it there is not capacity — every changer in the line clamps the same range of wheels. It is labour. The NTC-950-2 is the changer with dual pneumatic assist arms, and the NTB-800 is the balancer with automatic data entry. One removes the wrestling, the other removes the typing, and they are the only Triumph pair that does both.

That comes with a consequence you should know before the truck arrives rather than after. Assist arms need room to swing, which makes the NTC-950-2 the deepest machine Triumph builds: assembled it is 56 inches wide but 93 inches deep and 80 inches tall. Shops measure a wall, order, and then discover the depth. Measure the floor.

Will It Fit?

Five things decide this and every one of them is yours to check. We cannot see your bay, your ceiling, your compressor or your panel.

  • The changer's floor. 56 x 93 x 80 inches assembled (1,422mm x 2,362mm x 2,032mm). Add walking room on the operating side; a footprint traced exactly to the machine is one you cannot work around with a wheel in your hands.
  • The balancer's floor. 28 x 48 x 62 inches assembled (711mm x 1,219mm x 1,575mm). Leave clearance above and behind it so the safety hood can rise fully.
  • Power. Both machines run on 110 volts, which is the point of the pair for a smaller shop — no three-phase service, no transformer, no electrician's quote before you can use what you bought.
  • Air. The changer is pneumatic and its maximum working pressure is 120 PSI. It does not make its own air. You need a shop compressor with a dry, regulated line to it; match the compressor to the figure in the machine's manual, because our product data does not state a required flow rate and we will not guess one for you.
  • The doorway. Crated, the changer is 38 x 65 x 51 inches at 900 lbs and the balancer is 30 x 39 x 51 inches at 300 lbs — 1,200 lbs of freight in two crates. A tight service door, a step, or a turn in a corridor is the thing that stops a delivery, not the truck.

Why two assist arms and not one

An assist arm is a powered helper that holds the bead down and away while the mount head does its work. On a run-flat, on a low-profile tyre with a short stiff sidewall, or on a wide-profile tyre that fights being folded, that is the difference between a routine job and two people leaning on a bar. The NTC-950-2 carries two of them. The second arm matters because the difficult part of a difficult tyre is rarely one point on the bead — holding the tyre in two places at once means the operator's hands are free for the tool rather than for the tyre.

Behind the arms sits a bead breaker rated at 5,500 lbs of force, which is the blunt part of the machine and the part that gets used on every wheel that comes in seized, corroded or simply old. The bead blast function completes the set: it fires a burst of air into the sidewall to seat a stubborn bead during inflation, which is the job that otherwise ends with a ratchet strap and a bad idea.

What automatic data entry is actually worth

Balancing a wheel means telling the machine three things: the rim width, the diameter, and the distance from the machine to the rim. On the NTB-800 you enter one and the machine reads the other two itself. That sounds like a small convenience, and it is — once. Multiply it by four wheels per vehicle and every vehicle that comes through the door for a season and it becomes real time, and more to the point it becomes fewer wrong numbers. A mistyped rim width produces a balance that is confidently wrong, and the customer finds it at highway speed, not you.

The NTB-800 also carries a wheel brake, so the wheel can be locked in position while the weights go on rather than creeping under the weight of your hand. It reads to +/-1 gram with a 6-9 second cycle, drives from a 1/4 HP motor, takes a 36 mm shaft, and displays in standard or metric.

Perfect For

  • A busy independent shop running tyres alongside general service, where the bay is not dedicated and every minute the machine saves is a minute back on something else.
  • A dedicated tyre shop whose mix includes run-flats, low-profile and truck fitments rather than only economy tyres.
  • A shop hiring and training — the assist arms and one-parameter entry both narrow the gap between an experienced fitter and a new one.
  • Fleet and municipal workshops with a standing 110-volt supply and no appetite for electrical work.

What's in the Box

With the NTC-950-2 changer: a steel mount and demount head, a plastic mount and demount head, plastic wheel clamp covers, a soap tank with an application brush, and a tyre tool bar.

With the NTB-800 balancer: a plastic safety hood, a quick-release wing nut, cone adapters, a wheel weight hammer, and a rim caliper.

Air line, compressor, electrical connection and anchoring hardware are not part of either crate.

Certification, stated plainly

Our product data for this combination lists no third-party safety listing for either machine, and we are not going to imply one. For most private and independent shops that never comes up. It does come up for some commercial insurance policies, for some fleet and municipal operations, and for local jurisdictions that name a specific listing in their code. If any of those apply to you, ask us before you order and we will request the manufacturer's current documentation in writing so you have it in hand before you commit.

Shipping and delivery

Both crates travel by freight truck to the lower 48 states. Freight is quoted live at checkout against your own address, so the figure you see is a current carrier rate rather than a stale estimate. The driver's job ends at the tail of the trailer: you need a forklift, a pallet jack on a dock, or a plan and some help. If none of that is realistic, collecting from the carrier's local terminal is usually the easier option because the terminal already has the equipment. Delivery to a residential address carries a residential fee, applied at checkout when you choose it.

Inspect before you sign. Walk both crates, look for crushed corners, punctures, shifted banding and anything bent, and write what you find on the bill of lading while the driver is standing there. Photograph it. A clean signature is the carrier's evidence that the shipment arrived intact and it is very hard to argue with later.

Warranty

Ask us for the manufacturer's current warranty document before you order if the terms will affect your decision — we would rather send you the paperwork than paraphrase it. One warning applies to any machine with a hydraulic or pneumatic circuit regardless of who built it: if something fails, do not strip the power unit, a cylinder or the control valve before a claim is open. A disassembled component is normally treated as a modified one, and that is the fastest way to lose cover that would otherwise have been honoured. Photograph the fault, note the serial number, and call first.
