-Triumph NTC-950-1 and NTB-800: automate the step you repeat, muscle the step you dread
Look at how often each machine is used and this pairing explains itself. A wheel goes onto the balancer four times per vehicle, every vehicle, forever. A tyre needs the assist arm only when its sidewall fights back. So this combination puts the automation where the repetition is — the NTB-800 with automatic data entry, which reads two of the three set-up parameters itself — and puts a single pneumatic assist arm on the NTC-950-1, where it earns its keep on the run-flats and low-profile fitments and stays out of the way the rest of the time.
It is a commercial changer rather than a hobby one. The bead breaker delivers 5,500 lbs of force, the Jet Blast Inflator system fires a hard burst of air into the sidewall to seat a stubborn bead, and clamping runs 16-28 inches inside and 14-26 inches outside.
Will It Fit?
These are the checks a buyer has to make. We cannot see your shop.
- Power. Both machines run on 110 volts. That is deliberate and it is the reason this class of equipment lands in small shops at all — no service upgrade, no three-phase, no electrician standing between you and the first job.
- Air. The changer is pneumatic, working to a maximum of 120 PSI, and it does not generate its own supply. Plan a regulated, dried line from your compressor to the machine. Our data does not publish a flow requirement, so take that figure from the machine's manual rather than from an internet estimate.
- The balancer's floor space. 28 x 48 x 62 inches assembled (711mm x 1,219mm x 1,575mm), plus clearance for the safety hood to lift.
- Getting it in. The changer crates at 51 x 38 x 51 inches and 820 lbs; the balancer at 30 x 39 x 51 inches and 300 lbs. Two crates, both heavy, both needing a straight run from the truck to the spot you have picked.
- Working room. Whatever the footprint says, leave space to stand a wheel on edge beside each machine. That is where the time goes when there is nowhere to put anything down.
What one assist arm changes
Run-flat tyres are built with sidewalls stiff enough to hold the car up with no air in them. That is what makes them safe on a motorway and what makes them awkward on a changer — the tyre does not want to fold into the rim's drop centre, which is the trick every mounting operation depends on. The assist arm pushes and holds the bead exactly where it needs to be while the mount head runs round, so the operator's hands stay on the tool instead of on the tyre. Low-profile and wide fitments behave the same way for the same reason.
One arm covers the great majority of that work. If your day is dominated by the hardest fitments there is a two-arm version of this changer, and it is a real difference; if run-flats are a regular but not constant part of the mix, the single arm is the honest answer and the money saved buys the better balancer.
Why the NTB-800 is the balancer to spend on
Setting up a balance means giving the machine three figures: rim width, rim diameter, and the offset distance from machine to wheel. The NTB-800 takes one from you and measures the other two. On a single wheel that is a shrug. Across four wheels, twenty cars, and a technician who is talking to a customer while working, it is both time and accuracy — a mistyped rim width does not produce an obvious error, it produces a confident and wrong weight placement that the driver discovers at speed.
The wheel brake is the other quiet feature. Locking the wheel where the machine stopped it means the weight goes exactly where the display said, not a few degrees along from it. Spindle performance is +/-1 gram with a 6-9 second cycle, from a 1/4 HP motor, on a 36 mm shaft, taking wheels of 10-28 inches, tyres to 44 inches, rim widths of 1 1/2-20 inches and up to 150 lbs.
Perfect For
- Commercial tyre bays with steady throughput, where the balancer is the machine that never stops.
- Independent workshops handling modern cars on run-flats without being a specialist tyre outfit.
- Shops with mixed staff experience, where the machine measuring its own parameters removes a whole class of mistake.
- Anywhere on single-phase power — both machines are 110 volt.

Certification, stated plainly
Our data on these two machines records no third-party safety listing, and we would rather say that than imply one exists. In a private or independent shop it usually makes no practical difference. It makes a difference when an insurer, a fleet contract or a local inspector specifies a listing as a condition of operating. If any of those govern your shop, ask us before ordering and we will go back to the manufacturer for current documentation in writing.
Shipping and delivery
Freight only, two crates, lower 48 states. The rate is calculated live at checkout for your address instead of being printed here, because carrier pricing changes week to week. Once the trailer is at your door, unloading is the receiver's responsibility — forklift, dock, or a terminal collection, which many shops find simpler because the terminal already owns the machinery. A residential address carries a residential fee, shown at checkout.
Inspect the crates on the truck. Note any damage on the bill of lading before you sign and photograph it; a clean signature is treated as confirmation that the shipment arrived undamaged, and reversing that afterwards is difficult.
Warranty
Request the manufacturer's current warranty document from us before you buy if the terms matter to your decision. Whatever it says, one rule applies to every pneumatic machine on the market: do not dismantle the motor, the cylinder or the control valve before a claim has been opened. Stripped parts are usually read as modified parts and cover goes with them. Photograph the fault, note the serial number and call first.
