Katool KT-T850 and KT-B760: a balancer is only as accurate as the metal holding its sensors still

Every wheel balancer claims 1 g accuracy. What decides whether you get it is whether the sensors are held rigidly enough to measure vibration in the wheel instead of vibration in the machine. The KT-B760 is built around that problem: the sensor support is an all-in-one assembly rather than a bracket bolted to a panel, and it sits on a bottom board and side boards 8 mm thick, inside a body pressed from 3 mm steel. Those two numbers are the reason to choose it, and no boilerplate page explains why they are printed.

The shaft follows the same logic. Its 36 mm thread is quench treated, so the component the wheel is actually clamped to does not deflect under a heavy rim, and it is longer than standard so wider wheels still sit properly on the cone rather than hanging off the end of the shaft. A wheel that is not square on the shaft produces a reading that is repeatable and wrong, which is the worst kind.

How the measurement runs

The automatic measurement ruler enters the A and D values without the operator keying anything, removing the commonest source of a bad balance - a mistyped offset. The wheel spins at 180 rpm and the cycle takes about 7 seconds, with results reported to 1 g. Built-in fault diagnosis and a double-sided self-calibration routine mean the machine can be checked and corrected on the spot without stored parameters to go stale, and readings can be switched between ounces and grams and between millimetres and inches to match how your technicians already work.

What the KT-B760 will take

Rim diameter up to 30 in, wheel width from 3 in to 12 in, overall wheel diameter up to 880 mm (34.64 in), centre hole up to 135 mm (5.31 in), and wheel weight up to 65 kg (143 lbs). Read the last two carefully if you handle light-truck and van wheels: centre-bore size and sheer weight are what stop a wheel going on a balancer far more often than diameter does.

The KT-T850 changer it is paired with

The changer is a tilt-arm wheel-clamp machine taking wheels to 47 in (1,200 mm) diameter and 15 in (380 mm) width, clamping outside from 14 in to 26 in and inside from 16 in to 28 in. It runs a 2.0 HP motor on 110V single phase, with a 200 mm aluminium bead-breaker cylinder and assist arms to take the weight of a wheel during mounting. Its jaws are case-hardened to 0.8 to 1.1 mm and covered, and the mounting head is stainless with a plastic cover, so hardened steel never meets a rim face directly. A bead blast seater deals with covers that will not seat on air alone.

What your shop needs

• Power. Both machines are listed at 110V single phase. That is two ordinary outlets, positioned so neither machine is being fed by a lead run across a walkway.
• Air. The changer requires 0.8 to 1.0 MPa, which is 116 to 145 psi delivered at the machine. It is the changer that needs it; the balancer does not.
• Floor and layout. The changer weighs 340 kg (750 lbs) and wants sound level concrete. Put the balancer within a couple of paces of it - the distance between the two machines is walked twice per wheel, four times per car, all day.

Approvals, stated plainly

Katool's data for these two machines carries no third-party safety listing, and we are not going to suggest otherwise on a product page. It is ordinary for tire equipment in this class and for most buyers it changes nothing. Where it does matter - an insurer, a landlord or a contract that names a specific listing document for powered equipment - tell us before you order and we will ask the manufacturer directly.

Shipping and delivery

Freight truck, lower 48 states, with the rate quoted live at checkout against your address so it reflects the carrier's price on the day rather than an old estimate. The changer is a 340 kg crated machine and taking it off the trailer is the receiver's job, so line up a forklift or a dock in advance, or nominate the carrier's local terminal for collection - the terminal has the handling equipment and it is often the simpler arrangement. Choosing residential delivery adds a residential fee at checkout.

Inspect on arrival, before signing. Look along the crates for crush damage, shifted or missing banding, punctured wrap and any oil on the pallet, and note it on the bill of lading while the driver is still with you, with photographs taken at the same moment. A signature with no exceptions recorded is the carrier's evidence that everything arrived sound.

Warranty

A written Katool warranty document covers both machines and we will send you the current version before you buy if the terms are part of the decision. The standing rule with any warranty claim: do not open up the balancer's sensor assembly, the computer board or the changer's pneumatic circuit before the claim is raised. A stripped component is normally treated as a modified one, which is the quickest way to lose cover. Photograph the fault, note both serial numbers and call us first.
