iDEAL TC-400M-B-PL230-K: one table that clamps a 6" wheel and a 24" wheel

The awkward thing about powersport work is the range. A dirt bike wheel, a quad wheel, a scooter wheel, a side-by-side wheel and a trailer wheel are not remotely the same size, and a changer that is happy with one is usually hopeless with another. The TC-400M-B-PL230-K has an outside clamping range of 6" to 24", handled by four adjustable clamps that reposition across that whole span rather than sitting at fixed stations — so the small wheel and the big wheel both get clamped properly instead of one of them being wedged and hoped for.

The clamps themselves are plastic, not bare steel. On a customer's powder-coated or polished rim that is not a nicety; it is the difference between a tyre change and a rim refinish. Maximum wheel diameter is 37" and maximum wheel width is 10".

What you need to run it

Two supplies, and the second one catches people out.

  • Electricity: 110V, 15 amp, single phase. An ordinary socket. The electric table rotation is the only thing drawing power, and it does not need a dedicated shop circuit or three-phase.
  • Air: 125 psi working pressure. This is the real prerequisite. The clamping cylinders and the bead breaker are pneumatic, and a small hobby compressor that tops out below the working pressure — or one that cannot keep up with repeated demand — will make the machine feel weak and slow when the machine is neither. Check your compressor before you order the changer, not after.
  • Floor space. We do not publish a footprint for this model. If your bench or bay is tight, ask us for the installation drawing before you buy rather than guessing from a photograph.

Confirming your air supply, your socket and the space available is the buyer's responsibility.

Clamping: four adjustable jaws and double-acting cylinders

The clamps are driven by double-acting pneumatic cylinders. The distinction matters: a double-acting cylinder is powered in both directions rather than being pushed one way by air and returned by a spring, which gives a firmer, more repeatable grip and a positive release. On a wheel you are about to apply leverage to, grip is the whole safety argument — a wheel that creeps in the clamps while a bead is being levered is how rims get damaged and knuckles get hurt.

Because all four clamps adjust, the machine covers its 6" to 24" range without adapters for most of it. That is worth checking against your own workload: if the majority of what you change sits at one end of that range, the setup time you save per wheel adds up quickly over a season.

Breaking the bead, and turning the table

The bead breaker develops 5,500 lbs of force. Powersport tyres are not large but they are often stiff, and old ones can be bonded to the rim hard enough that hand tools simply will not shift them; a breaker with that much behind it turns the worst part of the job into a routine one.

Table rotation is electric rather than manual, so the wheel turns under the tool at a controlled speed while your hands stay on the bar and the bead. Combined with the swing arm design — the column swings out of the way instead of tilting back — loading and unloading a wheel is a short, repeatable movement rather than a wrestle.

Inflation and air preparation

A hand-held inflation gun is supplied, so seating and setting pressure happens at the machine with the wheel still clamped. More usefully, the changer comes with a regulator, an oiler and a water trap included. Those three are what stop shop air destroying a pneumatic machine: the regulator holds a steady working pressure, the oiler keeps the cylinders lubricated, and the water trap keeps condensate out of them. They are frequently sold separately with equipment like this, and just as frequently never fitted, which is why pneumatic changers develop sticky clamps within a couple of years.

Perfect For

  • Motorcycle and ATV shops covering everything from a small dirt bike wheel to a side-by-side.
  • Powersport dealerships handling new-machine prep and warranty work in volume.
  • Trailer and small-utility work, within the 24" clamping and 37" diameter limits.
  • Serious home and club workshops with a compressor already capable of the working pressure.

What's in the Box

Per the manufacturer's feature list: the tire changer with its swing arm design, four adjustable plastic clamps, the double-acting pneumatic clamping cylinders, the bead breaker, electric table rotation, the hand-held inflation gun, and the regulator, oiler and water trap. The assist arm is part of this configuration. Mounting hardware, an air line to the machine and any wheel-balancing equipment are separate.

Certification, stated plainly

Our data for the TC-400M-B-PL230-K records no independent third-party listing for this machine, and we would rather state that than leave you to assume. It is a distinction with consequences: a manufacturer's own declaration that a product meets a standard is a different document from an independent listing issued by an outside body, and some insurers and workplace inspectors will accept only the second. If your shop is inspected or your policy names a standard, find out what is actually being asked for and ask us to confirm what this model carries before you order.

Shipping and delivery

This machine ships as freight to the lower 48, with the cost quoted live at checkout so it reflects current rates. At 530 lbs crated it is not a two-person carry: plan on a forklift or a pallet truck and a dock at the delivery address, or take terminal pickup and collect it on a trailer. Deliveries to a home address carry a residential fee, so tell us up front if that is where it is going. Inspect the crate before you sign — packaging damage, the count, anything bent or punctured — and write what you find on the bill of lading. Once a clean bill is signed, a damage claim becomes very hard to make.

Warranty

The manufacturer's warranty applies to this changer and the terms in force are published on our warranty claims page. We do not restate a term length here deliberately — the live page is the version that will be honoured. If a fault appears, contact us before anything is taken apart: a pneumatic assembly stripped down before a claim is agreed is a claim that becomes an argument about cause. Photograph the fault and the serial plate first. And keep the water trap drained; most early failures on machines like this are avoidable ones.
