iDEAL TC-400M-B: a powersport tire changer that runs on a wall outlet and shop air
The TC-400M-B-IDEAL is built around the wheels a car-sized changer handles badly — motorcycle, ATV, UTV, trailer and small automotive rims. It clamps from the outside across a 6" to 24" range on four adjustable clamps, and the detail worth knowing before you buy is how it is powered: the machine itself asks for 110V, 15 Amp, 1PH, an ordinary single-phase circuit, while every bit of real force — clamping and bead breaking — comes from shop air at a 125 psi working pressure.
That split matters. There is no three-phase service to run and no electrician to book, but there is a compressor requirement, and it is the part people underestimate. The air preparation you would normally buy separately is included: a regulator, an oiler and a water trap ship with the changer.
Will It Fit?
Four checks, and only one of them is about where the machine stands.
- Electrical. 110V, 15 Amp, single phase. A standard shop or garage circuit carries it. Nothing here calls for a three-phase service or a heavier supply.
- Air. Working pressure is 125 psi. The clamps are driven by double-acting pneumatic cylinders and the bead breaker is pneumatic too, so your compressor is doing the heavy lifting. A small portable unit will keep up with a single wheel and then fall behind; size the compressor for continuous duty, not for peak pressure alone.
- Wheel envelope. Maximum wheel diameter is 37" and maximum wheel width is 10", with outside rim clamping from 6" to 24". Measure the largest and the smallest wheel you actually intend to service — on powersport work the small end is the one that catches people out, not the large end.
- Getting it in and standing it up. Ship weight is 470 lbs. Plan the route from the truck to the bay, and plan a level, solid floor with room to swing the arm and to stand at the inflation station.
Site conditions are the customer's responsibility. We can quote and ship the machine; we cannot verify your circuit, your compressor's delivery or your floor from here. If anything above is close to the line, measure it and speak to us before you order.
Outside clamping, with faces that will not mark a rim
This changer clamps the wheel from the outside on four adjustable clamps rather than gripping from within the barrel. For powersport work that is the right way round: the rims are often polished, anodised or powder-coated, the tyres are stiff and short-sidewalled, and the damage that ends a job is a scratch you cannot buff out. The clamp jaws carry plastic protectors for exactly that reason. Four clamps, all adjustable, are what give the 6" to 24" range its usefulness — you are not swapping hardware between a small ATV rim and a wide cruiser wheel, you are moving the clamps.
Electric table rotation and a pneumatic bead breaker
The turntable is driven electrically, so the wheel turns under power at a controlled speed while you work the mount and demount head — you are not fighting the wheel and the bar at the same time. The bead breaker is separate and pneumatic, which is the arrangement that lets a machine this size break a stubborn bead without a heavy flywheel or a bigger motor behind it. The swing arm design keeps the tower out of the way when you are loading and positioning a wheel by hand, which on powersport rims you will be doing constantly.
The air side arrives complete
A regulator, an oiler and a water trap are included, along with a hand-held inflation gun. That is not a throwaway line. Air-driven clamping cylinders live or die on clean, lubricated, regulated air; water carried down an uninsulated shop line is what corrodes cylinders and seizes valves in the second year of ownership. Buying that kit separately after the fact is a common and avoidable expense, and mounting it at the machine rather than at the compressor is what actually protects the tool.
Perfect For
- Powersport dealerships and service departments turning motorcycle, ATV and UTV wheels all day, where rim finish is part of the product.
- Independent shops adding two-wheeler and side-by-side work to a car-focused bay without adding a three-phase circuit.
- Trailer, marine and small-equipment shops handling wheels below the automotive size range.
- Serious home and club workshops with a compressor already in place and a standard 110V outlet to hand.
What's in the Box
Per this product's own feature list: the changer with its swing arm tower and electric turntable, four adjustable clamps with plastic protectors, the pneumatic bead breaker, a hand-held inflation gun, and the air preparation set — regulator, oiler and water trap. A compressor, air line and the wall circuit are yours to supply. If you need a packing list confirmed in writing before you order, ask us and we will get it.

On safety listings, stated plainly
The published data we hold for this machine claims no third-party safety listing of any kind. That is a statement about the paperwork, not about the build — but it is the paperwork some buyers are obliged to produce. If your insurer, a franchise standard or a local inspector requires equipment in your bays to carry an independent listing, treat that as a question to settle before you order, not after. Ask us and we will put iDEAL's current answer for this model in writing.
Shipping and delivery
Freight is quoted live at checkout for the lower 48 states, so what you see is a current rate rather than a stale table. A machine of this weight moves on a freight carrier, and that carries three practical conditions: someone at your end must be able to get it off the truck, or you take the shipment at the carrier's terminal instead; a residential delivery carries a residential fee, added once; and you must inspect the crate before you sign. Note any damage on the delivery paperwork at the kerb — a signed clean bill of lading is the carrier's evidence that it arrived intact, and it is very hard to unwind afterwards.
Warranty
Warranty terms for this model are held by the manufacturer, and we publish the claims route rather than a term of our own invention. Ask us in writing for the current term before you buy and we will get it from iDEAL and record it on your order. One rule applies whatever the term says: do not disassemble a suspect component before you open a claim. A stripped cylinder or a part in pieces on the bench is, from a warranty department's point of view, a part that can no longer be assessed — photograph it, describe it, and let the claim run first.
