Hofmann MONTY 1675 with SmartSpeed Swing-Arm Tire Changer

Two features on the MONTY 1675 are worth more than the rest of the spec sheet put together, and neither is a capacity figure. The first is that the mount/demount head offset locks. The second is the integrated pressure limiter on the inflation circuit. One protects the wheel; the other protects the technician; and between them they describe what this machine is actually for.

It is a swing-arm tire changer for passenger cars, light trucks and high-performance wheel and tire assemblies, taking tires up to 53" (1,346 mm) in diameter with smartSpeed rotation control.

A head offset that locks, and why that is not a small thing

On a swing-arm changer the mount/demount head is set a precise, small distance off the rim flange. Get that gap right and the tool never touches the wheel. The problem on a machine where the offset is set by feel each time is that it drifts — a knock, a heavy tire, a technician in a hurry — and the moment it drifts inward, the tool is cutting an arc across the customer's rim edge for the whole rotation. A locking offset means the gap is established once and then held mechanically. Hofmann's own description is that this gives cosmetic safety for expensive wheels and significantly reduces the risk of harming the assembly; the mechanism behind that claim is simply that the setting cannot wander while the table is turning.

The integrated pressure limiter

Seating a bead requires a burst of air, and the pressure needed to make a stubborn bead jump is uncomfortably close to the pressure at which a tire can fail explosively. This is the mechanism behind the serious injuries that happen in tire bays — not the machine, the inflation. An integrated pressure limiter caps what the machine can deliver, so the ceiling is a property of the equipment rather than of the operator's judgement and the shop line's regulator on that particular day. If you are equipping a bay where more than one person will use the changer, this feature deserves weight in the decision.

smartSpeed rotation

Rotation is under smartSpeed control, which optimises the torque applied to the wheel and sets the rotation speed automatically rather than leaving it as an operator choice. The published rotation figures are CW 7-18 | CCW 7 RPM — the reverse direction is deliberately held at the low, high-torque end, which is where a technician wants it when backing a tool out of a difficult bead rather than driving through it.

Bead breaking and the lifting tool

The bead breaker is ergonomic and hand-operated, developing 1224 kg (2700 lbs.) of force across a range of 2" - 16" (43-414 mm). Hand operation at the point of use is a deliberate choice on a machine aimed at premium wheels: the technician's hand and eye are both at the shovel when it fires, instead of at a pedal with the contact point in peripheral vision.

A bead pusher and tire lifting tool are fitted to assist through the mount and demount. On low-profile and run-flat tires the upper bead is the part that resists, and a pusher that holds it in the drop centre is the difference between one technician finishing the job and one technician calling for another pair of hands.

Will It Fit?

Power. The standard supply is 230V 1Ph 50/60Hz. Single phase, but a dedicated, correctly rated and properly grounded circuit at the machine's position is required, and providing it — through a licensed electrician, before delivery — is the customer's responsibility.

Air. Required air pressure is 116-174 PSI (8-12 BAR). Both ends of that range matter: below the bottom the machine will not do its job properly, and the top is a limit rather than a target. Check what your compressor actually delivers at the far end of the shop under load, not what its badge says.

Space and height. The machine occupies 53" x 46" x 81" (1346 x 1168 x 2057mm) (W x D x H). Eighty-one inches is tall enough to interfere with a low soffit, a duct run or a door header, so measure the clearance above the spot you have in mind, and leave room for the arm to swing and for a wheel to be walked in.

Weight and delivery access. Shipping weight is 340 kg (750 lbs.). Plan how it comes off the truck and how it gets to the bay before it arrives. A sound, level concrete floor is assumed; confirming your slab is the customer's responsibility.

Wheels. Outer clamping runs 10"-24" (254 - 609 mm) and inner clamping 12"-24" (304.8 - 609.6 mm), with maximum wheel width 15" (380 mm). Measure your largest regular assembly against those numbers before you order.

Perfect For

  • Performance and premium wheel shops, where the cost of one scratched rim outweighs several days of labour margin.
  • Dealerships servicing factory alloys, where cosmetic damage becomes an internal warranty problem.
  • Independent shops with mixed staff experience — a locking offset and a pressure limiter both put a floor under the result regardless of who is on the machine.
  • Busy tire bays handling passenger cars and light trucks with large-diameter assemblies.

Certification and compliance, honestly

The product data we hold for the MONTY 1675 records no independent third-party safety listing, and we will not imply one it does not claim. A manufacturer's own declaration of conformity is a different document from a listing issued by an accredited third-party body, and where a requirement names the second, the first does not meet it. Given that this machine carries an inflation-side safety device, it is worth being precise about that distinction: if your insurer, a franchise standard or your local authority having jurisdiction requires a specific listing on tire service equipment, establish which one and let us check this machine's documentation against it before you commit.

Shipping and delivery

Freight equipment, shipped within the lower 48 states. Delivery of Hofmann machines is covered by the Pick Up and Delivery section further down this page, which is not the same as our general freight terms — read it, and if anything there differs from what you see at checkout, settle it with us before ordering. In every case, inspect the shipment before signing: check for punctures, crushed corners, a load that has shifted on the pallet and broken banding, and record what you find on the bill of lading at the time of delivery. A clean signature states that the machine arrived undamaged, and that is very hard to unwind later.

Warranty

Claims run through our published warranty claims process. We have not printed a term because the data we hold for this model does not state one. And one rule applies to everything we sell: do not disassemble a suspect component before the claim is open. Photograph the fault in place, note the serial number and contact us first — equipment that has already been taken apart is frequently outside the terms of a claim that would otherwise have been paid. On the pressure limiter in particular, do not attempt to adjust or bypass it under any circumstances; if you think it is misbehaving, stop using the inflation function and call us.
