Description
-Hofmann MONTY 1625 with SmartSpeed Swing-Arm Tire Changer
Read the specification table for this machine and one column does the talking: Included. Four items that are frequently quoted as extras on a tire changer are listed as part of the 1625 — an adjustable four-claw clamp, integrated bead-seating jets, a pressure timer, and twin-cylinder turntable clamping. The two in bold are the ones that change how the bay works, because between them the inflation stage stops being a separate operation performed with separate equipment and becomes something the table does, timed, in place.
The 1625 series are high-performance swing-arm changers for standard and performance wheels on cars and light trucks, taking tires to 53" (1,346 mm).
Bead seating on the table, on a timer
Seating a bead is the part of tire fitting that shops improvise around. Jets built into the turntable release a burst of air around the whole circumference at once, right where the bead has to jump, instead of forcing everything through the valve stem and hoping. That is what makes a difficult low-profile or run-flat bead seat on the first attempt rather than the third.
The pressure timer is the companion piece and the more important of the two. It bounds the burst by time, so the technician is not standing over a tire judging how long is long enough — a judgement that gets worse as the tire gets more stubborn and the shift gets longer.
Twin-cylinder clamping and the adjustable four-claw chuck
The turntable is clamped by twin cylinders driving a four-claw chuck that adjusts to the wheel. The reason for two cylinders is even pressure: where one cylinder works the claws through linkage, the claw with the least grip gives under torque, and a wheel that moves a fraction against a claw comes off the machine marked. Because the chuck is adjustable and self-centring, the technician can also take the wheel from the outside or the inside — whichever surface is less likely to be damaged on that rim.
smartSpeed, and the 1625em bead assist
Patented smartSpeed technology optimises the torque applied to the wheel and sets the rotation speed automatically, minimising potential damage to the tire. The published figures are CW 7-18 | CCW 7 RPM — note that the counter-clockwise direction is held at the slow, high-torque end, which is where you want it when easing a tool back out of a bead rather than driving through it.
The other variant is worth knowing about before you order. On the 1625em, the patented EasyMont Pro bead assist holds the tire down in the drop centre, which is what makes one-operator tire changing possible on the difficult assemblies. If you are staffing a single-technician bay, that distinction is the whole decision — ask us which configuration you are looking at rather than assuming the assist is present.
Bead breaking
The multi-position bead breaker develops 2,700 lbs of force and works across 1.7" - 16.3" (43-414 mm). That lower figure is unusually small for a changer of this capacity, and it is the number that matters on narrow sidewalls: a breaker whose shoe cannot get close to the flange has to attack a thin tire from the wrong angle, which is how sidewalls get creased.
Will It Fit?
Power. 230V 1Ph 50/60Hz. Single phase, but not a general-purpose outlet — a dedicated, correctly rated, properly grounded circuit at the machine's position is required, and providing it through a licensed electrician before delivery is the customer's responsibility.
Air. Compressed air supply is 110-170 PSI (7.6-11.7 BAR). Treat the top of that as a ceiling and the bottom as a floor, and check what your compressor really delivers at the end of the shop under load rather than what the badge claims — the bead-seating jets are the part of this machine that will tell you first if the supply is marginal.
Floor space. Hofmann publishes a recommended floor space of 53.3" x 46.1" x 80.75" (W x D x H). Read that as a working envelope, not a footprint — it already assumes the arm swings and the technician stands somewhere. The height figure is the one to check against a low soffit, duct run or door header.
Weight and access. Shipping weight is 750 lbs (340 Kg), so plan the unload and the route to the bay before the truck arrives. A sound, level concrete floor is assumed and confirming your slab is the customer's responsibility.
Wheels. Outer clamping is 10"-24" (250 - 609.6 mm), inner clamping 12"-24" (304.8 - 609.6 mm), maximum wheel width 15" (380 mm). Measure your largest regular assembly against those first.
Perfect For
- Single-technician bays — particularly in the 1625em configuration, where the bead assist replaces the second pair of hands.
- Independent tire shops wanting the inflation stage handled by the machine rather than by a separate tank and a habit.
- General repair shops adding tire service, where the changer is used by whoever is free that hour.
- Performance wheel work on standard and low-profile assemblies up to 24" rims.
What's in the Box
- Adjustable four-claw clamp — listed as included
- Integrated bead-seating jets — listed as included
- Pressure timer — listed as included
- Twin-cylinder turntable clamping — listed as included
- Multi-position bead breaker
- Patented smartSpeed rotation control
Those four "Included" entries come straight from the manufacturer's own specification table, which is why we are willing to list them as box contents. The EasyMont Pro bead assist belongs to the em configuration and is not part of every 1625 — confirm with us which one you are buying.

Why our floor-space figures carry decimals
The product's spec fields round this machine's envelope to whole inches; the specification table gives it to a decimal place. The difference is small, but in a tight bay a rounded height is the difference between clearing a duct and not, so we have printed the table's precise figures and left the rounded ones out. If clearance is marginal where you intend to install it, ask us and we will confirm against the factory drawing.
Certification and compliance, honestly
The product data we hold for the MONTY 1625 records no independent third-party safety listing, and we are not going to imply one it does not claim. A manufacturer's own declaration of conformity and a listing issued by an accredited third-party body are different documents, and where a rule calls for the second, the first does not satisfy it. This machine inflates tires, so the distinction is not academic: if your insurer, a franchise standard or your local authority having jurisdiction requires a particular listing on tire service equipment, find out exactly which and let us check this machine's paperwork against it before you commit.
Shipping and delivery
Freight equipment, shipped within the lower 48 states. Delivery of Hofmann machines is covered by the Pick Up and Delivery section further down this page, which differs from our general freight terms — read it, and if anything there conflicts with what you are shown at checkout, settle it with us before ordering. In every case, inspect the shipment before you sign: look for punctures, crushed corners, a load that has moved on the pallet and broken banding, and note anything you find on the bill of lading at the time of delivery. A clean signature is a statement that the machine arrived undamaged, and reversing it afterwards is difficult.
Warranty
Claims run through our published warranty claims process. We have not printed a term because the data we hold for this model does not state one. One rule applies to every machine we sell: do not disassemble a suspect component before the claim is open. Photograph the fault in place, record the serial number and contact us first — a unit that has already been taken apart is frequently outside a claim that would otherwise have been paid. And never adjust or bypass the pressure timer; if it misbehaves, stop using the inflation function and call us.
