Corghi Service Pro 440 Semi-Automatic Truck Tire Changer test

Corghi Service Pro 440 Semi-Automatic Truck Tire Changer

The number that decides whether a truck tire changer earns its keep is not torque, and it is not weight capacity. It is what the chuck will grip. The Service Pro 440 clamps from 14 to 40 inches on its four jaws, and reaches 56 inches with adaptors and extensions. That upper figure is the reason to look at this machine: it is the difference between servicing an agricultural or oversize off-road wheel in your own shop and sending the customer somewhere that can.

Around that chuck sits a semi-automatic electrohydraulic machine built for commercial, fleet and industrial work - trucks, buses and the assemblies that come off them. Semi-automatic here is a deliberate choice rather than a lower specification: rotation, positioning and pressure stay under the technician's hand, which is what you want when a split rim or a sensitive alloy is on the chuck and the correct next move depends on what the operator can see.

Will It Fit?

Plan for a machine that occupies 83 inches of length and stands 69 inches high, extending to 102 inches in length when the arm is out. Weight is 2,160 lbs (980 kg), which is a forklift-and-a-plan job rather than a four-people-and-a-shove job. Power is 230V, three phase, 60 Hz. If your building has no three-phase service, this machine is not the one - establish that first, because it is the single most common reason a heavy tire changer arrives and cannot be commissioned. Working hydraulic pressure is 2,176 psi, developed by the machine's own power unit.

Confirm the depth with us before you measure the bay. Published figures for the machine's depth differ: the specification table on this page gives 47.8 inches; the manufacturer's written description gives 74.8 inches. That is a gap of more than two feet - the difference between a machine that clears a walkway and one that does not. Both figures are given here rather than a pick between them. Ask us before you commit the space and we will have the depth confirmed against Corghi's own drawing.

The same caution applies to maximum wheel diameter. The spec table and the description both say 90.5 inches (2,300 mm); a separate product field says 91 inches. The gap is small and probably a rounding, but if you are buying this machine specifically for the largest wheels you handle, get it confirmed rather than assume. Checking your floor, your doorway and your electrical supply is the customer's responsibility, and all three are cheaper to check now than after delivery.

The chuck is the machine

Four-jaw automatic clamping handles rims from 14 to 40 inches, and the published clamping capacity extends to 56 inches with the adaptor extensions fitted. The chuck accepts assemblies up to 3,306 lbs (1,500 kg) - genuinely the heavy end of commercial transport work - and the minimum centre-hole diameter it can work with is 4 inches (100 mm), which is the specification that quietly rules wheels in or out at the small end.

Rotation runs up to 9 rpm. That sounds slow next to a car machine and it should: at these diameters the rim edge is travelling fast even at single-digit revolutions, and the speed is chosen so a technician can react to a bead that is not seating rather than discover it afterwards. The hydraulic system drives the rotation, the carriage and the bead-breaking discs from one power unit, so torque does not fall away as the job gets harder.

Semi-automatic is the point, not a compromise

On a fully automatic machine the cycle runs to a program. On the Service Pro 440 the operator manages rotation, positioning and pressure directly through the console. For truck and industrial work that is usually the safer arrangement, because the failure modes are not symmetrical: an automated cycle that meets an unexpected corroded bead or a rim that is out of round applies its programmed force anyway, while a technician with a hand on the control backs off. The console is laid out to keep those controls within reach at the working position.

Construction is a reinforced steel frame with an electrohydraulic system built to hold consistent torque and lifting force under pressure - the stability that matters when a tightly fitted truck tire is resisting at full clamping load. The machine runs quietly enough to be worked next to, which in a busy fleet shop is a real consideration rather than a marketing line.

Perfect For

  • Fleet maintenance shops running their own trucks, trailers and buses in-house.
  • Commercial tire dealers whose mix includes oversize off-road and agricultural wheels - the 56 inch extension range is aimed here.
  • Industrial and municipal workshops maintaining plant and heavy equipment.
  • Shops with three-phase power already installed, since 230V three-phase is a requirement rather than an option.

What's in the Box

Our data records these as supplied with the machine: alloy rim protections, rim pliers, a split rim lever and a bead lifting lever. Those four items are the accessory set that makes the machine usable across steel and alloy wheels on day one. Anything else - additional adaptors, the extensions that take clamping to 56 inches, or inflation equipment - should be confirmed with us in writing before you order rather than assumed to be included.

Certification, stated honestly

Our product record for the Service Pro 440 carries no third-party safety listing. That is a gap in our data, not a conclusion that no approval exists - the manufacturer may well hold paperwork we have never been sent. We are not prepared to imply a listing we cannot put in front of you. Heavy truck tire equipment is exactly the category where an insurer, a fleet safety policy or a workplace inspector may require a named document, so if that applies to you, tell us which one you need before you order and we will get a written answer from the manufacturer.

Shipping and delivery

This machine ships freight to the lower 48 states, with the cost quoted live at checkout so it reflects current rates rather than an old estimate. At 2,160 lbs you need a forklift or a dock, or you arrange a terminal pickup with the carrier - a truck tire changer is not a tailboard delivery under any circumstances. Residential delivery carries a fee, shown at checkout before you pay. Inspect the crate before signing and record any damage on the bill of lading there and then; once a clean receipt is signed, a freight claim becomes very difficult to pursue.

Warranty

The warranty term for this machine is not stated in our product data, so we are not going to describe one. Our warranty claims page sets out how to raise a claim through us, and we will confirm the manufacturer's current terms in writing if you ask before ordering. Independent of the terms: do not disassemble the machine before a claim is filed. On a hydraulic unit in particular, opening the system to investigate is the fastest route from a covered failure to an uncovered one. Document the fault, contact us, and let the claim be opened before any tools go near it.
