CEMB SM825EVOPA and SM825EVOAIRPA: pick the power supply your bay actually has

Most tire changers give you one answer to the question of what to plug them into. This one gives you two. The SM825EVOPA runs on 110 V, single phase, plus compressed air. The SM825EVOAIRPA is the same machine powered by compressed air alone — no electrical circuit at any point. Choosing between them is a genuine siting decision rather than a trim level, and it is the most useful thing about this product.

Underneath either badge is a traditional swing-arm changer with a high-performance press arm, aimed at mid-volume work: the majority of factory fitments, plus a good share of custom tires and wheels.

Why an air-only machine is worth knowing about

Running a new electrical circuit into a bay is not always a small job. In a leased unit it can need a landlord's permission; in an older building it can need a panel that is already full; on a temporary or seasonal site it can be impossible. Where a shop already has a compressor sized for tire work, the air-only build removes the electrical question entirely — the machine needs the service the bay already has.

The electrical build has its own argument. Where a circuit is available, taking the drive off the air system means the compressor is doing less work, and a compressor with headroom is a compressor that keeps the inflation station and the air tools responsive during a busy run. Neither answer is universally right, which is exactly why it is useful to have the choice.

The press arm, and the problem it solves

A tire mounts or demounts only when the bead opposite the mount head is held down in the deepest part of the rim well. Ordinary tires on ordinary rims sit there by themselves. Stiff-sidewall tires do not: they climb back out the moment nothing is holding them down, and the mount head then levers against a bead with nowhere to go. That is how rims get scored and beads get torn.

The high-performance press arm holds the bead in the well mechanically through the rotation. It is the component that decides whether a modern fitment is a routine job or an argument, and on a mid-volume machine it is the single feature most worth having.

Dual clamping cylinders

The table clamps with dual cylinders, which matters for evenness rather than raw force. Two cylinders sharing the load hold the rim with consistent pressure all the way round, and consistent pressure is what stops the rim creeping in the jaws when the mount head meets resistance. A rim that moves under load is a rim about to be damaged, because the head is no longer where the machine believes it is.

Inflation and bead breaking

Inflation is a dual-stage system with a safety limiter, and the bead blaster is built into the clamping jaws rather than bolted on as an accessory — so seating a stubborn bead does not mean fitting a separate tool and finding somewhere to store it. Bead breaking is by an adjustable shovel with enough force for difficult tires and wheels, and the adjustment is the important half of that sentence: force applied at the wrong angle dents rim flanges, and being able to set the angle to the tire in front of you is what keeps the force useful.

The custom mount/demount head takes replaceable plastic inserts. Those inserts are consumables by design — they wear so that the wheel does not, and replacing one is a two-minute job that costs a fraction of an alloy refinish. Check they are in good condition as part of the weekly walk-round rather than after a customer complains.

Will it fit your shop?

Decide the power build first, because it is the one thing you cannot change later. The SM825EVOPA needs 110 V, single phase, and compressed air. The SM825EVOAIRPA needs compressed air only. Either way, air is required, at 145 psi, and it must be a proper bay drop rather than a shared coil — the clamping cylinders, the press arm and the inflation system all draw on it. Providing the air supply and, on the electrical build, the circuit and its connection by a licensed electrician to local code, is the customer's responsibility.

The machine ships at 630 lbs (286 kg). Leave clear space to the side of the final position: this is a swing-arm design, and the arm needs somewhere to swing to. Measure the route in as well, since doorways and thresholds are the usual obstacle on delivery day.

Perfect for

  • Mid-volume general service shops — the machine is specified for exactly this: the bulk of factory fitments plus a share of custom work.
  • Bays with no spare electrical capacity — the air-only build sidesteps the problem completely.
  • Leased or temporary premises — no new circuit means no landlord conversation and nothing to remove at the end of the term.
  • Shops adding a second changer — put it where the air already reaches instead of where the panel allows.

What's in the box

The machine is supplied fully assembled and tested, with the press arm, the dual clamping cylinders, the dual-stage inflation system with safety limiter, the bead blaster built into the clamping jaws, the adjustable bead breaker shovel and the custom mount/demount head with replaceable plastic inserts. Confirm which power build you are ordering — SM825EVOPA or SM825EVOAIRPA — at the point of order, because the two are otherwise identical and the wrong one is an awkward thing to discover in a crate.

One published range that is stated two ways

The manufacturer's feature list gives the dual-cylinder clamping range as 13"–24". The specification table gives the outside rim diameter range as 12"–24". The upper figure agrees; the lower one does not, and the data does not tell us which is right. We have printed both rather than choosing the wider one, because a clamping range that turns out to be an inch narrower than promised is discovered at the worst possible moment. If your work includes small rims at the bottom of that range, contact us and we will confirm the true minimum with the manufacturer before you order.

Certification, stated plainly

We do not publish a third-party North American safety listing for this changer, and we will not imply one. The manufacturer's data covers performance and dimensions; it does not include an independent listing, and a manufacturer's own declaration is not the same thing.

Insurers, corporate fleet policies and some local inspection authorities can require a named third-party listing before signing off an installation. If you buy under any of those, ask us to confirm what documentation ships with the machine before you order rather than after.

Shipping and delivery

This machine moves by freight truck within the contiguous United States. The cost is quoted live at checkout against your ZIP code, which is why no shipping figure is typed into this description. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, applied at checkout.

Sort the unload before the truck is scheduled: a crate this size comes off the trailer with a forklift or at a dock, and if you have neither, ask us to arrange collection from the carrier's local terminal. Inspect before you sign — crushed corners, torn wrap, a shifted pallet — and write what you find on the bill of lading in front of the driver. A claim opened after a clean signature is much harder to win.

Warranty

A manufacturer's warranty document is published for this machine and it is the controlling text. We have deliberately not restated a coverage period here, because a paraphrase only creates a second version to argue with. Ask us and we will send the current copy before you buy.

House advice on any claim: if something fails, call us before you take it apart. Opening a sealed assembly to "have a look" is the quickest way to turn a covered failure into an uncovered one.
