CEMB SM56T Truck, Bus, Agriculture and Earth-Moving Tire Changer

Every operation on the SM56T runs from a portable hand-held control unit. On a passenger-car changer that would be a convenience. On a machine built for tractor, bus and earth-moving tires it is the design decision the whole machine is organised around, because on a wheel this size the operator cannot do the job from a fixed console.

A large agricultural or off-road tire binds in one place at a time, and that place is usually the part of the bead you cannot see from where the buttons are. With the controls in hand, the operator walks the wheel while it turns — lubricating exactly where the bead is dry, watching the side that is actually fighting, and stopping rotation the instant something is not right instead of taking two steps back to a panel first.

The Clamp Is Also the Lift

The SM56T uses a self-centering four-jaw clamping drive system, and that assembly doubles as a wheel lift. Handling is the hidden cost in heavy tire work: a wheel that has to be manoeuvred onto the machine by forklift, hoist or two people takes longer to set up than to service, and it is where the injuries happen.

Four jaws closing from the centre also means the wheel arrives centred rather than being trued up by hand. On a rim this large, an off-centre mount is not a small error — it puts a bead loosening tool against the tire at the wrong angle for the whole revolution.

Bi-Directional Rotation and the Bead Loosening Arm

The clamping system rotates in both directions, working with an adjustable bead loosening arm rated to 6,000 lbs (2,721 kg) of force. Bead force is the specification that decides whether the machine can actually service what you drive in. A multi-ply agricultural or earth-moving tire that has sat on a rim through a season of heat cycles does not release politely, and a machine that runs out of force at the bead is a machine that turns into a bar-and-hammer job — which is how rims get bent and people get hurt.

Being able to reverse rotation matters for the same reason. A bead that will not walk off in one direction will often come away in the other, and reversing costs nothing to try.

Power: Read This Before You Order

The SM56T runs on a heavy-duty 220 VAC, 50/60 Hz, three-phase high-torque motor. The three-phase requirement is the single most common reason this purchase goes wrong, so we would rather raise it here than after delivery: a great many independent shops and almost all home and farm workshops have single-phase service only. Three-phase is not something that can be worked around with an adapter, and having it brought in — or converted — is a job with a cost and a lead time attached.

Check your service before you order. If you are not certain what you have, the panel label or a call to your electrician settles it in five minutes, and confirming it is the buyer's responsibility. Tell us what your supply is and we will tell you honestly whether this machine suits it.

Confirm the Exact Sizes You Need Before You Order

Published figures differ for both the maximum tire size and the clamping range. Each figure is given below with the source it comes from.

Maximum tire diameter. The product overview states tires up to 90″ in diameter. The specification table gives a maximum wheel diameter of 63″ (1,600 mm), and the feature list also says tire diameters to 63″. Those may be describing different things — an overall tire envelope against a wheel or rim figure — but neither source says so.

Clamping range. The specification table gives a rim clamping range of 14″ to 46″, extending to 56″ with optional accessories. The feature list instead says self-centering wheel clamping from 14″ to 27″ diameter, and separately notes that nominal heavy-duty truck wheel service runs from 15″ to 24.5″ rims.

Maximum wheel width is stated consistently at 42″ (1,070 mm) in both sources. If you are buying for a specific tire — and at this size everyone is — tell us the exact rim diameter, tire diameter and width you need to service, and we will get the figures confirmed by CEMB in writing before you commit.

Space and Delivery Planning

The crate ships at L63″ × W53″ × H46″ and 2,000 lbs (907 kg) gross. That weight is well beyond what a pallet jack and a couple of people will move, so the unloading plan needs to exist before the truck is booked, not on the day.

Around the machine, plan for the largest tire you intend to service to be rolled in, stood up and worked from all sides — the whole point of a hand-held control unit is defeated by a bay where the operator cannot get round the wheel. Solid, level floor throughout. Final assembly and testing of this machine are carried out in the USA.

Perfect For

  • Commercial truck and bus fleets servicing their own wheels rather than paying a road service call for each one.
  • Agricultural dealers and large farms handling tractor and implement tires that no passenger-car machine will take.
  • Earth-moving and plant hire operations where downtime on a machine is measured in hours of lost work.
  • Heavy-duty tire shops adding off-road and industrial capability alongside truck work.

What's in the Box

Supplied: the self-centering four-jaw clamping drive system with integral wheel lift, the adjustable bead loosening arm, the bi-directional rotation drive and the portable hand-held control unit. The accessories that extend the clamping range beyond the standard maximum are optional and are not included — confirm with us which set your intended rim sizes require.

Certification, Stated Plainly

The material we hold for this machine — the manufacturer's overview, the feature list and the specification table — does not state a third-party safety listing or an independent conformity assessment, and we will not imply one. Final assembly and testing in the USA is a manufacturing fact, not an assessment by an outside body, and the two are easy to read as the same thing when they are printed near each other.

This is worth taking seriously on a machine of this class, because the buyers are often the ones who get audited: fleet and municipal purchasing, agricultural co-operatives, and insurers writing cover on commercial tire service all ask for documented evidence about equipment. If you need it, send us the exact wording of the requirement before you order and we will put it to the manufacturer in writing.

Shipping and Delivery

This machine ships by freight to the lower 48. The freight cost is quoted live at checkout against your delivery ZIP code, so what you see is the current rate for your address rather than a number copied out of an old table.

Decide before you order how the crate is coming off the truck. The driver brings the shipment to you; unloading it is the receiver's responsibility. A crate of this weight needs a forklift with the capacity to match. If you do not have one, choose terminal pickup instead and collect it with suitable equipment. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee, which is calculated at checkout when you select it.

Whichever you choose, inspect the crate before you sign anything. Walk the pallet, photograph crushed corners, punctures or a shifted load, and write the damage onto the bill of lading in words. A clean signature is a statement that the shipment arrived intact, and a concealed-damage claim is far harder to win afterwards. Call, text or chat with us if something looks wrong and we will open the claim alongside you.

Warranty

This machine carries the manufacturer's warranty. We have deliberately not restated its term or its covered components in this description, because the warranty document supplied with the machine is the governing text and it is the one any claim is settled against. Ask us and we will send you the current document before you order.

One practical warning that applies to every machine we sell: do not take a suspect component apart before a claim is open. Manufacturers routinely decline warranty on assemblies that have already been disassembled, because a stripped part can no longer be inspected for the cause of the failure. Photograph the fault, write down what the machine was doing when it happened, and call us first.
