CEMB SM1100 Center Post Leverless Tire Changer

Almost every tire changer grips the wheel from the outside — jaws that close on the rim edge and hold it there while the machine works. The SM1100 does not. It clamps through the centre, using a removable central fixing shaft and a twist-lock that pulls the wheel down onto the table from its own bore. Nothing touches the rim edge at any point in the cycle.

Two things follow, and both are the reason to buy this machine rather than a conventional one. The rim edge — the part customers look at and the part that costs money to refinish — is never in contact with steel. And with no jaws standing up around the perimeter, the underside of the wheel stays open, so the technician can see and work the lower bead instead of reaching over a clamp.

Center-Post Twist Lock Clamping

The clamping system is manual and secures the wheel through a removable central fixing shaft, locking rims from 12″ to 30″. A reverse wheel-clamping kit is included as standard, which matters more than it sounds: reverse-mount and deep-dish rims are the wheels an outside clamp handles worst, and they sit on the vehicles whose owners notice a mark.

Because the hold is central, it is also indifferent to spoke pattern and face design: a wheel a jaw system has to be coaxed onto goes down flat on the table here.

The Leverless System

The mounting and dismounting tool is patented, fitted with plastic protections and driven by a dedicated joystick. There is no lever, so the technician never uses the rim as a fulcrum — which is the moment in a conventional tire change where damage actually happens, and the moment that depends most on who is doing the job.

The dismount procedure is fast and repeatable, and repeatability is the real gain: the fifth wheel of the morning gets the same treatment as the first, and the risk of scoring a rim stops being a function of how tired the operator is. Ultra-low-profile and run-flat tires, custom rims, everyday wheels and commercial light-truck and industrial wheels all run through the same routine.

Bead Press and the Rigid Vertical Arm

An independent floating bead presser is supplied as standard and is the recommended tool for run-flat and UHP tires — the stiff-sidewall cases where the bead will not drop into the well on its own. It is particularly effective on reverse rims, because the tool height reduces easily to suit them.

Behind it, the vertical arm is built in an extra-rigid configuration: pneumatic movement of the operating arm, a double locking system, and sliding rollers on the horizontal arm. Rigidity is an accuracy spec here, not a durability boast — an arm that flexes under load lets the mount head wander from where the operator set it, and every thousandth it moves is a thousandth closer to the rim flange.

The Wheel Lift Is Standard, Not an Option

The SM1100 comes with a pneumatic wheel lift as standard, with a lifting capacity of up to 185 lbs. That is an ergonomics feature with a hard financial case behind it: assemblies get heavier every model year, a busy bay lifts dozens a day, and back injuries from repetitive lifting are among the longest-running claims a small shop can face. A lift that is standard equipment gets used; one that was an upsell tends not to be there at all.

Confirm Your Largest Tire Size Before You Order

Published figures for the maximum tire this machine takes differ, and both are given here with the source they come from.

The specification table gives a maximum tire outside diameter of 40″ (1,016 mm) and a maximum tire width of 15″ (380 mm). The manufacturer's description of the standard bead-breaking arm and leverless mount head instead cites high-performance low-profile, stiff-sidewall run-flat and commercial multi-ply tires up to 36″ in diameter and 12.5″ wide. Those may be describing two different limits — the table the machine's overall envelope, the narrower pair what the mount head is rated to work — but neither source says so, and the difference matters if you are buying for a specific tire size. Tell us the largest assembly you need to service and we will get the answer confirmed by CEMB before you order.

Power, Air and Siting

The SM1100 runs on 220 VAC, 50/60 Hz, single phase, plus compressed air. The specification table gives an operating pressure of 145 psi. That is above what many shop compressors are set to deliver, so check your regulated line pressure and your compressor's duty cycle against it before installation rather than after — this is a machine that uses air on every cycle, not occasionally.

Shipping weight is 1,235 lbs (560 kg). Plan the floor position for a machine that will not be moved again: it wants solid, level concrete, room for the operating arm to swing, and clear space to roll a large assembly in from the side. Confirming your power supply, air supply and floor are suitable is the buyer's responsibility; send us your details and we will check them with you.

Perfect For

  • Wheel and tire specialists handling expensive aftermarket rims where a single scuff wipes out the profit on the job.
  • Performance and dealership shops running ultra-low-profile and run-flat fitments as routine work.
  • Mixed shops covering everyday passenger wheels alongside commercial light-truck and industrial assemblies.
  • High-throughput bays where the wheel lift and the repeatable leverless cycle pay for themselves in operator time and injury risk.

What's in the Box

Supplied as standard: the patented leverless mounting and dismounting tool with plastic protections and its dedicated joystick control; the reverse wheel-clamping kit; the independent floating bead presser; the pneumatic wheel lift; the side-mounted foot-operated bead breaker shovel; and the centre-post twist-lock clamping system with its removable central fixing shaft.

Certification, Stated Plainly

The documentation we hold for this machine — the manufacturer's overview, the feature list and the specification table — does not state a third-party safety listing or an independent conformity assessment, and we are not going to put one on the page by implication. The mount head and the bead press are described as patented; a patent is a statement about invention, not about anyone else having examined the machine for safety, and the two get confused often enough to be worth separating.

If you need documented third-party assessment — because your insurer asks for it, because a fleet or public-sector purchasing process requires it, or because a local inspector does — send us the exact wording of the requirement before you order and we will put it to the manufacturer in writing.

Shipping and Delivery

This machine ships by freight to the lower 48. The freight cost is quoted live at checkout against your delivery ZIP code, so what you see is the current rate for your address rather than a number copied out of an old table.

Decide before you order how the crate is coming off the truck. The driver brings the shipment to you; unloading it is the receiver's responsibility. Most shops take a machine of this weight off with a forklift. If you do not have one, choose terminal pickup instead and collect it with suitable equipment. Residential delivery is available and carries a residential fee, which is calculated at checkout when you select it.

Whichever you choose, inspect the crate before you sign anything. Walk the pallet, photograph crushed corners, punctures or a shifted load, and write the damage onto the bill of lading in words. A clean signature is a statement that the shipment arrived intact, and a concealed-damage claim is far harder to win afterwards. Call, text or chat with us if something looks wrong and we will open the claim alongside you.

Warranty

This machine carries the manufacturer's warranty. We have deliberately not restated its term or its covered components in this description, because the warranty document supplied with the machine is the governing text and it is the one any claim is settled against. Ask us and we will send you the current document before you order.

One practical warning that applies to every machine we sell: do not take a suspect component apart before a claim is open. Manufacturers routinely decline warranty on assemblies that have already been disassembled, because a stripped part can no longer be inspected for the cause of the failure. Photograph the fault, write down what the machine was doing when it happened, and call us first.

Product Features

  • BPS (Bead Press System) greatly assists the operator in mounting stiff sidewall tires and difficult rims with deep drop centers
  • Center-post twist lock clamping system safely secures virtually all wheels without damage with easy access to the rim and tire from the bottom side without obscuring the work area.
  • Wheel lift eliminates back strain injury due to repetitive lifting of common larger, heavier wheels.
  • Leverless mount/dismount system (PATENTED)
  • Foot operated side mounted bead breaker shovel combines speed with power for everyday wheel applications to save time
