CEMB CM27T: the chuck that lifts the wheel for you

The single most important thing about the CM27T is not on the front of the machine. It is the pivoting four-jaw clamping chuck, which does two jobs instead of one: it clamps the wheel, and it acts as the wheel lift. On a machine built for over-the-road Class 8 truck and bus assemblies — and some off-road tractor tires and rims — that is not a convenience feature. It is the difference between a job two technicians wrestle with and a job one technician runs, and it is the reason commercial tire work injures fewer backs than it used to.

Around that chuck is a heavy-duty universal changer that handles tube and tubeless tires, self-centres on the rim, and is driven entirely from a portable control unit rather than from a fixed console. That last point is worth as much as the first, and we will come back to it.

Self-centring clamping, and the range that actually matters

The clamping range is 13"–27" rim diameter, with tire diameters accepted up to 63". The number that matters day to day, though, is the nominal heavy-duty truck service band of 15"–24.5" rims — that is where the bulk of commercial work sits, and it sits comfortably inside the machine's range rather than at the edge of it. A changer working in the middle of its capability is a changer that stays accurate and stays in one piece; one permanently at its limits is not.

Self-centring is doing real work here too. A truck wheel that is not concentric on the chuck fights every subsequent operation, and on assemblies this heavy that shows up as scored rim flanges and damaged beads. The four jaws pivot to take the rim and pull it true before anything else happens.

The portable control unit

Everything is operated from a control unit the technician carries. That sounds minor until you have tried to lubricate a bead, watch a mount head and reach a fixed panel at the same time. With the controls in hand the operator stands where the work is, and bead lubrication, demounting and mounting are all watched while they happen rather than driven blind from six feet away.

Two forces, doing two different jobs

The specification quotes two forces and they are frequently confused, so it is worth separating them properly. The bead loosening roller is adjustable and exerts over 4,100 lbs of force; it works progressively around the bead seat, in combination with bi-directional rotation of the clamping system, to break a bead free without hammering it. The bead breaker force is 3,300 lbs (1,500 kg) and is the machine's dedicated bead-breaking action. They are separate mechanisms with separate numbers, and a stubborn commercial tire usually meets both.

Bi-directional rotation deserves a line of its own. Being able to reverse the table means a bead that has hung up can be backed off and taken again from the other direction, instead of being forced. On an expensive aluminium truck rim, backing off is a much better instinct than pushing harder.

Power, hydraulics and air

Drive is a heavy-duty high-torque motor running on 220 V, 1 ph, 50/60 Hz. The machine's maximum operating pressure of 1,885 PSI (130 bar) is the hydraulic working pressure of the system itself — it is not a shop air requirement, and it is not something you supply. It is quoted because it tells you what the machine is built to withstand internally, which on equipment that spends its life breaking commercial beads is a fair proxy for how long it will last.

Will it fit your shop?

Two practical constraints. First, electrical: you need a 220 V single-phase supply at 50/60 Hz within reach of the machine's final position. Providing that circuit and having it connected by a licensed electrician to local code is the customer's responsibility, and it is worth confirming before the machine arrives rather than after.

Second, space and access. The crate is L63" x W59" x H41" with a gross shipping weight of 1,415 lbs (640 kg). Measure the route in as well as the floor space — the doorway, the threshold, and any turn tight enough to matter — because a machine that fits the bay but not the corridor is a bad afternoon. Once it is in position, leave working room around the whole assembly: on truck wheels the technician needs to walk the tire, which is the entire point of the portable control unit.

Perfect for

  • Commercial truck and bus fleets — servicing your own Class 8 wheels in-house instead of waiting on a road service call.
  • Heavy-duty tire shops — tube and tubeless, steel and alloy, across the full nominal 15"–24.5" commercial band.
  • Agricultural and off-road operations — the machine is rated for some off-road tractor tires and rims alongside its road work.
  • Municipal and transit garages — where the wheels are heavy, the schedule is fixed and staffing a two-person tire job is not realistic.

What's in the box

The CM27T comes fully assembled, with the portable control unit and the pivoting four-jaw clamping chuck as part of the machine rather than as options. Beyond that, the manufacturer's data does not itemise the crate contents, so we have not listed accessories we cannot confirm. If your work depends on a specific adapter or clamping accessory, ask us to check before you order.

A published figure that is labelled two ways

The 63" (1,600 mm) capacity appears in the specification table as "maximum wheel diameter" and everywhere else in the manufacturer's material as the maximum tire diameter. On a commercial assembly those are not the same measurement, and the difference is large. We read it as the overall tire-and-wheel assembly diameter, which is how the rest of the data uses it, but we have printed the discrepancy rather than hiding it. If you are buying this machine specifically for assemblies near that limit, contact us and we will confirm the correct reading with the manufacturer before you order.

Certification, stated plainly

We do not publish a third-party North American safety listing for this machine, and we will not imply one. The manufacturer's data covers performance and dimensions; it does not include an independent listing, and a manufacturer's own declaration is not the same thing.

Insurers, corporate fleet policies and some local inspection authorities can require a named third-party listing before signing off an installation. If you buy under any of those, ask us to confirm what documentation ships with the machine before you order rather than after.

Shipping and delivery

Freight only, within the contiguous United States. Your rate is calculated live at checkout from the ZIP code you enter, so it reflects the lane and the day rather than a number baked into a product page. Residential delivery carries a residential fee, added by the checkout.

Two things are yours to arrange. The unload: this arrives crated and someone at your end needs a forklift or a dock, so if that is not you, tell us and we will set it up for terminal pickup. And the inspection: look at the crate first — corners, banding, wrap, whether the load has shifted — and note every mark on the bill of lading while the driver is still there.

Warranty

This machine is covered by the manufacturer's warranty, and the warranty document is the authority on the terms. We are not going to summarise a coverage period here — a summary that drifts out of date is worse than none — so ask us and we will send the current document before you commit.

Standing advice: do not disassemble before you claim. It is a natural instinct to open something up and diagnose it, and it is also the fastest route to a denied claim.
